Restrictions are placed manually on accounts that are deemed to be repeatedly ruining game experiences for others in PVP, or gambit. Restrictions will not be overturned until their duration has passed. Use this time to stabilise and improve your network connection so that you stop harming games for other players. The first restriction will last two weeks. If you do not fix your connection, the next will be two months. If you still persist in ruining the game for others, you will be permanently banned from PVP in Destiny 2. Please be considerate of others and work on fixing your connection, to avoid further repercussions. Ready to stop kidding yourself, and do the decent thing and improve your connection? If not, there’s a permanent restriction coming your way after this!
Excuse my informal language. Been a long day. Points are still true though.
I thought I did fix my connection when I moved to a new place with good internet. I haven’t had any problems with my network or connection in D2 or any other games since I moved 8 months ago. My first restriction happened 9 months ago when I still lived in my old house that sometimes had really bad connection problems, but back then the game informed me of my bad connection by constantly losing contact with the servers and lagging alot, etc. It has done none of those things since I moved. Since then no one has ever messaged me about me lagging despite the fact that for most of the summer all I played was crucible and gambit. And now completely out of the blue, I’m restricted for two months. It does not make any sense. If I truly still have an internet problem the game should have notified me of this somehow, like it always has done before. That’s why I’m asking for the restriction to be removed or changed to last only 2 weeks. If the game had told me in any possible way that my connection is bad, I would have gone out of my way to make sure that, the problem would be fixed, since destiny is my main game. Edit: you can see my internet stats in one of my replies below. To me it really doesn’t seem like I even could have that severe connection issues that I’d deserve a restriction.

  • If you are going to use wireless, put your console right next to your modem and use 5ghz channel if you have it. If your modem does not have that, use a hard connection or get one that does. The common 2.5ghz channel is used by literally every appliance under the sun and gets "clogged" very quickly.

My console is less than two metres from my modem. I’m not 100% sure which channel I’m using, I thought it was 5ghz but since D2 says that my connection to the game is bad, maybe I’ve been using the 2.5.

Is the device with a restriction the PS4? And is that specific device on WiFi?

It is a PS4, but the PS4 stats I listed are apparently incorrect, ’cause the PS4 built in connection test will give lower numbers than they actually are. The numbers that my computer showed me are my correct stats. I have used both wifi and wire on my PS4 while playing Destiny 2. Wifi more though, because the wire has not always been available. Edit: my previous wifi ping was wrong. I tested it again and got 11 as my ping, which makes much more sense given how low my wired network ping was.

My PS4 personally gives me the same stats as on my Mac, so idk what to say about that. WiFi could be your issue. It is inherently unstable and always has some level of packet loss, lethal for online games - especially on peer to peer networks like Destiny is.

Alright, thanks for the responses. I’ll try and not to use WiFi again unless it’s absolutely necessary. Do you think that after this restriction is over and I go back to playing pvp activities, that if I somehow still had some network problems that I myself would not know about, Bungie would in someway inform me of those, before restricting me for the third and final time?

  • No, the only ‘warning’ that is given is the previous restrictions. I gotta agree, they need to have warnings in place before they restrict you permanently, as if you have tried and failed you deserve to know beforehand, imo

In the stats you listed earlier, your ping wired and wireless was vastly different. They should not be off from each other more than a few milliseconds. If your ping wireless is that much different, you’re likely having a lot of jitter (ping variation) and packet loss over WiFi. Play wired if you can, but if you must play WiFi, you’ll need to improve the signal quality.

  • Yes, I noticed that difference too and did the speed test for my wifi again with the same application that I used with my computer and got 11 as my ping.

That’s better, but still, WiFi is probably the #1 cause of packet loss. The WiFi radio in consoles is not the greatest either. If you have a lot of neighbors, you’ll have a lot of interference from their devices. If you must use WiFi, you should use a network scanner application to determine what channel other networks in your area are using, and change the broadcast channel in your router so that it is different.

  • Alright, then. I won’t use WiFi anymore, unless it is absolutely necessary. Hopefully that should prevent me from getting restricted a third time, ’cause that’s really the only reason I can see for this restriction.
