I fondly remember that feeling when the game gave me the sparrow. The visuals the handling and the noise. The noise the engine made when speeding up was so awesome. While it’s pretty useless in most situations the emotes that can be used on the sparrow just show how much care they put in the vehicle. However other than that the sparrow wasn’t seen as much more than a way to get around the map... until SRL. SRL was probably the most fun I’ve ever had playing destiny. The mode worked so well with the sparrows. New perks like doing tricks to make the sparrow faster and the ability to cut corners was amazing. You also had the boost pads that would increase your speed. And the maps OH THE MAPS! The maps where new and unique. On mars you were racing along the cliffs, driving through the city, and let’s not forget those Cabal turbines. Venus had you driving through a vex structure hoping through portals and dodging lasers. At the end you used a fallen skiff as a ramp while a Spider Walker took pot shots at you. The horns! Oh how could you forget about the horns. There was always that brief down time before the race where players would spam the horn button. My personal favorite was the gjallarhorn horn. After honking the horn I would always listen closely to hear wolves howling in the distance. The SRL book rewarded you for placing first and just playing the game mode. Completing matches gave new sparrows and armor. The armor was new and unique. Not reskined and old. I loved the cloak that left a trail behind you while using a sparrow. Bungie went even further by adding the mode to custom games. So I could race with friends even when the event wasn’t active. Best of all!
