... Does that affect your views of their work?...

If someone is a skilled artist then that's what they are. Whether or not they are a terrible person isn't indicative of the quality of their work. I always try to separate art from the artist whenever I find out that someone whose work I enjoy turns out to be a person that I can't respect overall. Unfortunately it seems that I've had to do this a lot more lately with how polarized society is becoming and how more and more people are jumping into the current culture war.

Hitler was pretty decent at painting. Doesn't make him any less of a bag of shit, but there's that. Though I suppose it depends upon your sensibilities to whether you can acknowledge talent in the face of deep character flaws.

16 Repliesdepends on if his lifestyle affects his art. For example, Brandon Sanderson is a Mormon (Me personally I am a Christian so I do not agree with like 90% of what Mormons believe in.) but I still love his books because his religion doesn't get into his books very much.

Edited by TheKaijuGojira: 9/11/2019 10:02:51 PMRen and Stimpy is still my favourite even after I found out what John K. did.

I try not to but sometimes it does. I like Chris Browns music but the guy is a total piece of shit which makes it a little difficult to listen to his stuff.

Not really tbh, alot of people say stuff like "Oh XXXtentacion helped me out of depression" and whatnot but I still don't really like his music, I'm not really into rap though

Some, but not enough normally for me to dislike or stop liking their work. It depends on the circumstances though

2 RepliesIt does. I can enjoy the works of artists, musicians and what not despite my knowing that the artist was a complete scumbag IRL, and can see the genius in their work, but many times it is also possible to filter out the artist's personal issues / life choices in a lot of what they do, and what they produce. There are some that I like their work, but I do not like the person very much. The other angle for me is though, there is so much 'art' that seems to be given a by for who the artist is, and the work is just 1st grade level finger painting. "Oh well, the artist was just misunderstood, and was addicted to drugs and alcohol". You don't say..... It shows.

Most of the time I don’t even know. Generally I do try to separate the artist from their work, though.

It depends on what they did for me to view them as a bad person tbh
