Unfortunately you are the only person who can unlink an account from your profile. You will need to know the credentials and be able to log in to it to do so. If you are having trouble, you may want to reach out to PlayStation customer support to see if they can help you recover the credentials so you can unlink it.

So if we cannot get access to that old PSN account that is linked to an old Yahoo account that hasn't been used in 8+ years then we cannot initiate the cross save function?
-
I contacted playstation support and they said that, unless I can at least confirm the email of the account I'm trying to get the credentials for, that they can't help me due to player security reasons. I don't have the email of the unkown PSN account linked to my bungie profile, I only have the credentials for my actual PSN account. They replied by stating that they cannot assist me any further for security purposes. Is there another way that I could possibly deal with the situation? I still don't know how this PSN account was linked to my profile as it isn't mine and I've never seen it before.
-
Unfortunately there is no other way to remove an account other than entering the account credentials when you go to unlink it.
-
Ok then, so if I can't remove the unknown account from my profile then is there any other course of action I can take? I would very much rather not have the account linked to my profile for security reasons.
-
If you havent used that yahoo account in over a year it would have gotten deleted by yahoo after they sent a notice to that email or backup email. Sp bungie basically has, if its been over a year, a non active email tied to your bungie account.
-
Not that I know of. The only other option I know of would be to use a different Bungie profile and leave the unknown account linked to this profile.
-
I was afraid I would have to do that. I'll look into making another account. In hindsight though, it seems a little unnecessary to have to authenticate an account to simply remove it from an account I already own. I appreciate the assistance.
-
I agree it does not make sense to require authentication to unlink. If I had previously linked my Gmail/Facebook to something I can unilaterally revoke access to it at any time from my Gmail/Facebook. (in my example above Bungie.net should fall into the Gmail/Facebook role)

What is the logic behind this? If we want the account gone, why does it matter if we can authenticate? I'm having a similar problem with an old xbox account I haven't used in years and don't have access to anymore.
