This was hands down the most taxing, least enjoyable, pathetic, and lazily designed set of tasks ever put in a video game.
Doing it once made me never want to play gambit again, question why patrols are even in the game, and reminded me of how awful it used to be grinding heroic public events. Doing it 3 times was masochistic, and absolutely not worth the time.
How about some of these ideas to save a little face considering the community was very vocal about how awful the event was:
Buff EAZ rewards so we can actually get good Solstice armor. Roughly 10% of packages will reward armor, and 80% will "reward" Blues. This is exacerbated by the mind-numbingly stupid decision to have EAZ chests drop key fragments half the time, so we end up with 999 keys for every 1 solstice package. We get keys from everything, and packages from the EAZ only.
Let's say a 15 minute run of the EAZ gets you 10 EAZ Chests. You'll likely only get 5 packages from that run (probably less). Let's say you do another run. That's 30 minutes in the EAZ for 10 packages, and if you're lucky 1 of those will contain solstice armor.
Grinding the EAZ to get better armor is extremely inefficient and unrewarding.
Just makes the sparrow better. If the rewarded sparrow was exotic and had 2 perks, like the Micro Mini, it might actually be worth using despite being one of the most plain/boring looking sparrows in the game. Of course, they won't do that becuase why should a sparrow that takes WEEKS of grinding be as good as a sparrow you can buy from the Eververse for $$$$.
Or anything else - whether it shows off what we put ourselves through, or it's just gear that's worth using.
It's such a huge slap in the face to get this joke of a sparrow as the only reward.

why would you grind out three sets knowing the reward at the end wouldn’t satisfy you?

Two sets were enough for me. I've got last years sparrow and ship, and the sparrow from last year looks way nicer than the new one.
-
Patrols and heroic events weren't all that unenjoyable tbh. All the Gambit, Crucible, strikes, and EAZ was what was awful.

It did... it gave you theexperience ! The reason why that isn't enuff... is because it was a bad experience. That's the difference between the two Destiny games.
-
At least ylu can see it during actual gameplay. I mean, last year you got a ship. This time it is a sparrow you can somehow show to other players.
-
Bruh, I thought we all learned to not do all three solstice sets LAST year. The combined 45 adventures still give me nightmares to this day
-
I use my sparrow on all 3 toons. How could one not, given it's perk? Calm down, sparky, and think.
-
It did, give you a free armor 2.0 set you don't have worry about on said character. Thats enough of an incentive for me, helps me prep my characters
-
The real reward is the armor sets themselves.
-
It’s a Sparrow from D1 SRL. Like nothing is different, they didn’t even bother to rename it. Is this what we can expect moving forward? Annoyingly long grind for a D1 item that a lot of us already got in D1 minus the annoyingly long grind.
-
Yep agree, and thats why i didn't even bother to do my 3rd character... (I originally planned on doing all 3)... But i actually think Patrols and public events were probably the most enjoyable part's of the grind... A few games of gambit is good but ya get really sick of em after 10plus 😝 The EAZ is fun at 1st but then becomes repetitive, boring and relatively unrewarding... And Strikes are the worst of all... HOLD FORWARD ON STICK MELT BOSS AND REPEAT... 😑 Make Patrol and Public events more difficult and rewarding... FIX STRIKES... MORE SHOOTING LESS RUNNING ... But yea agree... stupid sparrow...
-
Long story short btw, he may not, BUT I WILL SPAM THAT SPARROW WITH AN INSTA SUMMON GHOST SHELL boom lol
-
The worst part is mine's not fast summon so it's never going to be used. Life's too short for the extra 1.5 seconds.
-
It was better than last year.
-
There is, instead of 1 armor 2.0 sets you get 3 :)
-
Edited by Cole Wolf25: 8/22/2019 10:05:40 AMI personally didnt care much for the sparrow, I just did the grind for the armor because it looked cool I'd say it was worth it but then again it's just my opinion 🤷♂️ Edit: People also seem to forget that once you get the legendary gear you'll get the 2.0 version once shadowkeep drops, so that's already a free 2.0 set
-
I did it because I'm a completionist
-
I pity the no lifing losers, going for it... Should really, really rethink life and priorities. Can barely go for one, without mind numbing boredem.
-
I had a blast getting my Solstice Gear :) ~TheGreatNike
-
You knew what the reward was, and that is sucked, yet still wasted gobs of time to get it. That's like banging a chick with no rubber, then complaining about how much babies suck when she gets pregnant. 🤷♂️
-
When you know the requirements and also know the reward is crap, but you do it anyway then go online to a forum and complain about it. Pepe
-
I did one set... realized I would have to relive that mind-numbing repetitiveness two more times for a sparrow? Bungie must think very little of us... it’s almost insulting, kind of like saying F you if you think about it. Shit, a re-skinned weapon at least.
-
Im actually gonna put the sparrow on my hunter when i go on it. Obviously u dont remember d1
-
Suffering? LoL I didn't know playing voluntarily constituted "suffering". Bungie put together a grindy event to give people something to do, not part of the Annual Pass, mind you, so anyone could participate. People will always find something to complain about...
