What might not be clear from answers below is you will have to choose one of those accounts to be the cross-save account, to play the same characters/gear on PC and Console
You will not be able to merge the characters and gear of your PS4 Destiny account with the current PC account and go forward as one. I have the same issue, a current D2 Blizzard PC account and a PS4 account I stopped playing earlier this year

I feel like this is the biggest reason why I am not excited about this feature. I am in the same boat as OP, a PS4 main and a PC side. I main Warlock and Hunter on PS4 (with an obligatory Titan just for farming and giggles), and made another Warlock on PC to play with some friends that didn't have consoles. I have now spent more time on the PC Warlock than my PS4 Warlock, a higher light level than all of my PS4 characters, and acquired gear that I don't have on the PS4. So Bungie, even though I've paid you twice for the same game and DLC, I now have to choose to delete one of the [b]accounts[/b] forever (which completely renders my time and money spent on all the characters in it obsolete), or just don't participate in cross-save? That just feels bad, I don't even want to play anymore knowing that choice is imminent. Kind of like having to chose between Boy or Girl in Bird Box... I'd rather choose neither lol, but I won't be braving the white waters with 2 accounts...
