Thanks for being open but seriously, do not nerf supers into the ground. They are called supers, not kindas (kinda works but not really). Stomp mechanics annoy most players if not all. Give all future bosses actual mobility and interesting mechanics without immune phases. Regular Standard Gambit is the best Gambit. Make the Gambit Armor relevant to regular Gambit. Remove Well of Radiance and give Warlocks a completely different subclass. PvP has WAY TOO MUCH control. Heavy ammo should not spawn until half way through a match. Nerf eververse. All planets are underused. All you can do there is patrols, lost sectors, or public events... That's it and it's a shame because the planets are gorgeous. Update planet vendors and include weapons with random rolls for each of them

  • Hi Luke, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s good to know what’s going on in the heads of yourself/team. In the off chance you read this, here are my 2 cents: 1. Keep Gambit Prime. Or at least let the Prime armour perks work in regular Gambit. These perks add an element of strategy that you don’t get in simple pvp and make the game mode far more interesting. 2. Challenging content: Please don’t add more timers! You, I think, correctly identified that story missions are too easy. The bad juju mission level of difficulty I believe would be appropriate for missions nearer the end of campaigns. 3. MTX: I think the community understands that mtx pays for additional content, but it would still be nice to get some cool looking gear by completing challenging content. One idea I had was for “strike specific” ornaments where each strike type (Hive, fallen, etc) had a chance to drop an ornament for the standard strike armour that related to the strike type. So for example a Hive strike might drop a Hive themed armour ornament, just to give the strike armour set a bit of variety and give us reasons to grind strikes again. 4. Finally: I like the plan to split quests and bounties 👍

Phew, wasn't sure if stopping playing d2 and un-installing it before Solstice started was a great idea as well as cancelling Shadowkeep pre-order, but after this I'm so glad I did. Hard to make annual pass content. Can't keep 2 gambit modes going. Listening to PC playing streamers when the vast majority play on Consoles. More nerfs incoming. Eververse!!!!! So I made the correct decision for me even before this article. My Shadowkeep pre-order money was spent on Borderlands 3, a much better decision I think I was a pretty HC player too, with over 3280hrs on D2 alone before dropping it. I doubt anything bungie releases will pull me back now, it looks like it can only get worse from here out.

    •
We've historically thought about the main Destiny campaigns as something we want to be pretty easy (I think D2's campaign was actually too easy at times)
Personally, I really dislike the fact that Destiny's campaigns are so easy. I find it hurts the story by removing all tension, it's not satisfying to complete because it's so effortless, and it ends up feeling like am extended tutorial. For Warmind, & Forsaken I actually micromanaged by power level so that I'd always be below the recommendation, and I had way more fun. But saving every blue item I got, and swapping gear trying to get the right level was agony. I'd love having the option to lower my power level at any time without micromanaging my armour and weapons, similar to the handicap feature for nightfalls.

      • Came for the director post, gonna leave these words that I scrawled with my feces: You get nothing more from us until you prove you'll stick to your word, take care of your team, and flesh out a power fantasy game like we used to have. The constant lies and walking back of plans has reached a point we're done with. We wanted to trust you, multiple times over the past 2 years, and were met with whatever this mess is. You want to know why we respond with such vitriol? We're emotionally invested, and it no longer matters. I've decided to move to Kentucky, marry my cousin, and smoke meth. It'll bring me joy for the same price as shadowkeep.

      • I really like gambit prime but the problem with the gamemodes isn't sleeper stimulant or anyone one weapon .. it's the amount of a heavy a player can get .. players are getting 20 invader kills a game and almost all of them come from truth .. truth is a little nuts right now cause it locks on in a split second and tracks very aggressively .. I personally thing you should make it where if you can shoot the rocket it will blow up and you can defend from it .. make it apart of the grenades and horseshoes perk .. that's the drawback of the perk is it can be shot down .. Anyway I like gambit primes mechanics alot better and I like the weapons that are tied to way better even tho they are horrible to try and get at the moment .. but I like gambit as well simply for the fact there is less yellow and orange bars that stomp you around .. putting 3 or 4 big yellow bar enemies on one side with 5 or 6 red bars .. is a little much considering they stomp if close and never stop shooting

      • If we can stand in one spot and not get punished by the boss in any way, shape, or form, then maybe amp up the boss or arena threat. You guys just admitted that the design flaws are your fault.

HOW WE BUILD THE GAME Bungie is a hella talented studio, however building in parallel sounds fragmented, like it doesn't allow them to bring the full force of the studio to bear on any given content release. Sure there hasn't been content drought this year but (personal opinion here) = it would be ok to pace things out more, I think it would lead to healthier/happier teams, which translates into even better quality content drops... and it's okay to ask the players to be patient as well, we can be harsh but we're on you're side, really, if not we woulda been gone already. NERFS Okay you had to Nerf Whisper and Super refilling exotics because it made us too powerful and thus difficult to design game encounters for, understood. The nerf to Ace of Spades though, still unnecessary, it held the unique spot of being great without being OP, this was an over-correction. OVERALL Liked this wall of text, looking forward to the next wall of text albeit with a tinge of fear that "we're changing a lot about destiny" is going to mean "were getting rid of a lot of the things you like in destiny". PLEA It sounds a lot like Destiny is viewed, by the company, very much as just a product i.e. here, try this escalation protocol, busy yourselves with that for a bit, LOOK FORGES!, ok now taste this Gambit for a bit, hey I made a Menagerie thing for you... it's just about creating activities and not really a saga. I'm always impressed by how beautiful the game looks and how good the weapons and abilities feel. But there's got to be more than just building a better monster killing machine and killing monsters. Where are you taking me, what's the point to any of this, what's the big picture, why should I care about any of the things i'm doing or the characters i'm doing them to/with? -Thx

          • Gambit should become the weekly activity for that mode and have Prime be a weekend event deal sorta like Trials. Perhaps require players to have a Prime armor set to participate so everyone is playing a role. Add Prime specific drops (armor sets and weapons) themed around Drifter, The Nine and Taken.

I'm just wondering how much brightdust will be used for infusion and masterworks, if it is used for infusion and masterworks. What else is Brightdust going to be used for besides buying items from EV, infusion, masterworks. I want to know cause the tribute hall uses Brightdust which I find very shady to start with cause of the big update coming soon. So whats going to change with the currency on the items, whats going to be added or not added, whats going to increase, and decrease on the items also, I know all EV items will be used for glimmer or shards or both in the collections menu after you have bought them from EV. I want to know how much brightdust we are going to get from them activities, bounites or anything more. In my opinion brightdust belongs in EV, and used to buy EV items, not to be used for anything else outside of the store. Mixing a store currency with ingame items is a bad idea, but thats my opinion anyway i think we need to ask these questions don't you instead of finding out later on.

            • Don't have the time atm for a full detailed reply to this. But I'll just say, I still haven't made up my mind if I'm coming along for Shadowkeep. First Destiny content that I haven't pre-ordered since I started playing when The Taken King dropped. I'll see what else Mr. Smith has to say and decide from there.

              • I feel like purposely breaking stuff to "fix" it later is the worst part about this whole thing. They created something too broken, let it ride out for way too long, then they nerf it. Why let us get so attached only to take it away? This ideology just pisses people off because they have an idea of what they think balancing is, but consistently ignore it anyways. Like there's a group that makes balance and another group designed to break it.

                • my thoughts for Luke: 1. Gambit over Prime. Just fix the invasion spamming. 2. Don’t be The Division 2 and fix PC problems on consoles. Many of the nerfs are based on pc issues, console players are your biggest consumer base. 3. Challenging and fun can be the same thing, fun is more important, some of the nerfs and mechanics have removed the fun (stomp for example). 4. I don’t mind the D1 concept of Eververse to pay for more content. It worked well alongside getting good looking cosmetics for completing challenging activities. 5. The in game economy is not on your list. It should be. Enhancement cores for infusion remains an issue that polarises the community more than any other. It only serves to slow progression for casual players and completing repeatative bounty’s is no fun. I’m confident you agree the game needs all types of player. 6. Overall I’m more interested in the future than the past but a good insight.

                    • Other than a nerf to well of Radiance. There's only 2 ways around it. 1. Design boss battles that don't revolve around dps, which means a focus on mechanics. Mechanic heavy, dps/boss phase lite encounters have not gone over well with the playerbase(see leviathan and last wish "mechanics" complaints) 2. Jack up enemy/boss health so that they don't get melted instantly by those using well. But this forces people to only use well to be able to compete.

All of it is pretty well said out, save for my reservations towards the talk over Well (I’m a Hunter main, I need healing), but I feel that that bit towards Whisper isn’t a right approach in regards to ammo economy, albeit it was a second time that we needed to let go of the White Nail. When you specifically need to grind for armor perks that influence the rng of ammo drops rather than having a reliable surplus of it like with ammo synths, it’s no wonder that folks flocked to it. To further state, no matter which way you look at it, Raid Banners seem to be a direct response to this in the case of where ammo drop rng can influence the outcome of a raid run, which is kinda stupid. One could argue that this was not the case as it also fueled up supers, but super regen was good before as the nerfs to most of the regen exotics hadn’t happen at the time. Further point, you could just do what the poor man did back in the super famine of 05’ when migrants flocked to the Vault of Glass in search of the treasure: wait. Going forward, I do hope that we’ll see more clarity towards the actual effectiveness of the (Ammo) Finder perks like a percentage/chance display or something of the sort so we know if it actually makes a difference. People will always prefer having a readily available heavy weapon with a mag or two ready for that one annoying Taken Major that just happens to be ready to ruin somebody’s day. Same for Super regen perks; Shards of Galanor needed that nerf but I cannot help but feel it’s super inconsistent now (hurr durr). I think that instead the super regen exotics should’ve had a lowered regen rate that was flat across the board instead of reduced regen per usage. This feels like a case where the sandbox team just slapped on some Flextape™️ instead of actually having the time to look into and fix the issue at its core. ‘Course, this is just my opinion on the matter. I want power to matter where it’s needed and feel powerful, but I do believe that some balance and tuning is needed where certain areas are getting too powerful, but in contrast to that I also don’t want older tactics, weapons and abilities to get left behind just for the sake of “keeping things fresh”, ya dig me?

                      • So let me get this right. The team, including the now departed Activision design studios, struggled to keep up with the annual pass content schedule. So with Activisions game studios now elsewhere, that doesn't bode well for future content releases? Will Shadowkeep ship unfinished?

Overcoming challenge is absolutely incredible, when done right. The challenge should come from learning new mechanics, learning new playstyles, adapting to new environments, unique engagements, and powerful enemies that don't need to cheese you (looking at you, Reckoning knight) in order to kill you. Bungie, if you're going to go this route, I just have one thing to say: Play Dark Souls.

                        • Here is the very first thing I read it was really them saying basically making games is hard......paraphrasing a bit but he said “it took a toll on the team” for the annual pass. Really? I read about 20 or so replies below me here and 8 of them they did not preorder shadow keep....neither have I. Big reason for it the annual pass was awful. And that took a toll on your team???? You then went on to talk about how the whisper ornaments (which nerfed backwards again) payed for zero hour which I didn’t bother doing after you nerfed the last gun that came out of a mission like that. So I said why bother. I went on to read a bit more and then said to myself this man is pedantic. The annual pass generally speaking wasn’t that well received. And I am sorry to hear it killed the team???? You are going into this great detail about Gambit Prime???? I don’t know I tried to be fair. But truth is I don’t care for Luke I truly don’t. And that diatribe did nothing to change my mind. I hope the moon reskin didn’t knock the team out.....maybe scheduled some at their desk foot massages? Ya no absolutely NOT getting shadow keep.

                        • I’m not comfortable with the emphasis on streamers’ opinions. Streamers have an entirely different experience of the game than the vast majority of players. Tailoring the game to their desires may have a very negative impact on the experience of Joe Q. Player who doesn’t have the same skill level or time to dedicate to the game. Instead, how about doing some community surveys? As a wise man once said, logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
