....inconsistent exotics. Destiny 2 has a plethora of exotics, all with their own perks, yet it seems as if many of them still do not feel useful in the slightest. Merciless used to be great for the reason that its competition was nothing short of safe with near-legendary perks that were useless (excluding a few).
Now, in Foresaken, leading soon into Shadowkeep, there are several exotics that are great, which dusts those exotics that still stay far behind the boundary of what makes a weapon exotic in the first place. Weapons in Destiny 1, such as the vamped Merciless clone, Pocket Infinity, had no issue melting enemies and granting incredible power. For that reason, it was never even considered as being brought back.
However, now in the sequel game, we have Outbreak Perfected, Lord of Wolves (which is still great, without being irritating), Ace of Spades, Thunderlord, One Thousand Voices, and Jotuun. While these exotics do not need nerfing, for one reason or another, there is no mistaking that weapons such as Malfeasance, The Jade Rabbit, Wishender, and Merciless could NEVER compete with these high-tier exotics.
Nobody is saying remove the great exotics that we have all grown to love, but to make those that nobody uses feel useful and powerful. Unlike the legendaries, which are subject to going down in history as further upgrades go to weaponry and armor, exotics continue to last and get updated. So, why not vary what the players use and have each exotic perform differently, yet still effectively?
P.S. None of this comes with hate. Just suggestions, as usual.

1 ReplyYeah? How about Sunshot, says range and stability increased but feels the same now that i master work it, yes. Idk how many kills it required but it only took me, from the moment i got the catalyst (think it was from the faction rally), to 3 days ago to complete it. Waste of time.

Would be cool if Merciless got a catalyst with Backup Plan

6 RepliesEdited by kellygreen45: 8/2/2019 2:57:02 PMMerciless is a holdover from the Weisznewski sandbox, and "dual primaries/power weapons" system from vanilla D2. Merciless was designed to be a boss-killing power weapon...that used heavy ammo. So---actually---in vanilla D2 it was actually one of the best power weapons in the game. But it was the best performer in a system that was DESIGNED to NERF player damage output (for the sake of PVP). But the community rejected this system. So Bungie brought back a variant of Destiny 1s primary/special/heavy weapon system to the game. Then began re-introducing D1 exotics back into the game. So right now Merciless is kind of out of step with how the game is played every where but Gambit. It doesn't do enough damage to feel like a heavy weapon.....but very few mid-level opponents (outside of Gambit) require multiple hits from a special weapon to put them down. ...and if they do, you usually can just whip out your heavy weapon and get the job done that much faster. So Merciless is in a weird spot where its doesn't hit hard enough for a heavy weapon....but is OVERKILL for a special weapon. ...and in the rare instances where you need that power, shotguns with Trench barrel do the job better...and faster.

12 RepliesJade rabbit has insane range, merciless melts bosses and malfeasance is great at taking down supers. Id prefer Bungie would look at exotic armor. Thats where the real problems lie.

5 RepliesMerciless is a relic from the D2 vanilla game. It doesn't fit in the post Forsaken loadout system. Nobody is going to choose this over a rocket launcher or other heavies.

1 ReplyMerciless is a weapon that needs some attention. I never even think of using it, everytime im in my vault im like nah... Telesto.

Literally 80% of exotics in this game need to be substantially buffed

Ofc OTV and Thunderlord will out damage HR, WE, and Malf, they're top-tier Heavies. Like apples to oranges.

2 RepliesMerciless is designed to kill majors. If you aren't taking advantage of Impetus you aren't really maximizing its potential.

Merciless is well... For one, an inconsistent design. With one intrinsic being about murdering bosses with DPS and the other being about clearing adds for bonus damage (Which is not something a Special weapon - Other than Trace Rifles - Should be doing) But the other thing is that power creep happened. Merciless is just flat out worse than Telesto and Jotunn. Both of which occupy the exact same slot and are the same weapon type. Heck, even Loaded Question outperforms it when capitalizing on the same cheese that Merciless uses - Which is Lunafaction/Rallicade auto-reloading to preserve the bonus effect. Even then, you also don't see much Telesto and Jotunn in PvE either, since that's moved more towards spending your Exotic slot on Power weapons for more boss DPS (If you don't have Swarm/Outrageous with Spiked Grenades) because things like One Thousand Voices, Anarchy and Tractor Cannon exist. As far as addressing this goes... In lieu of simply allowing people to equip 3 Exotic weapons (Which would vastly increase the range of usability for weapons since things wouldn't necessarily have to compete with Power weapons for the Exotic slot) Then some older Exotics could do with a touch up. Round out their rough corners and make them more competitive with current day offerings. Other Exotics could also be tweaked down, so that power creep doesn't continue unabated. With finally, some really lacklustre Exotics could even be demoted to Pinnacle Weapon status, becoming Legendaries and thus not competing for an Exotic slot (As well as enabling mods to be used on them)

Was using merciless in gambit and it was destroying. As good as any of the others mentioned
-
Well exotics are just guns with there very own unique perk not all exotics are meant to be the best there should always be guns that rule the meta at point but there should also be others that break the mold like lumina artblast or Cerberus they let destiny try new things down the road
-
Its not a bad exotic. Other exotics just threw it out the window
-
1 ReplyThe word you're looking for is power creep. This is what happens when we trend steadily towards more and more powerful gear. And is it really that bad?

Make it keep the charge rate boost until you reload, not until you kill something.
