Faction ,Rallies and how to make them great again!

Hi I wanted to give some feedback on the faction rally topic that was recently addressed by one of the community managers in a similar post. I wanted to first answer the questions that were asked in regards to factions and later down give suggestions on how Factions could be designed to be a mix between what we've known of Destiny 1 and Destiny 2! CTRL+F to SKIP if you don't care about my individual answers as this post is pretty lenghty. The questions were: 1 What did I like. 2: what did I not like. 3: what positive impact did factions have? 1: What did I like about Factions and the Rallies? In D1 I enjoyed having a second layer of armor and weapons I could passively farm without actively going out of my way to earn them. Kinda how today we passively get weapon parts for the gunsmith. It was nice to go to the different vendors and see what rolls they had this week because at some point, rotating random rolls were introduced. Always got me a little excited to see what weapon could be offered this week. It was great and the community definitly liked that a lot as it became somewhat of a ritual on YouTube , Forums and so on to see what rolls which vendor got this week. Almost every week there was atleast 1 highlight of a weapon. A great way to counter RNG and get the community to interact with each other. In D2, I enjoyed the Rally for being a competition within the community. Who can make which team win. It was fun even if the rewards would be kinda stale with how loot was back then. 2. The feature that I didn't enjoy was that the rallies eventually felt like they didn't matter as time went on. Besides some of the D2 year 1 design decisions aka no random rolls and armor being more of an aesthetic than anything else, grinding guns and later catalysts would feel pointless with the guns becoming a random reward anyway a month later or I just spent the glimmer. It lacked the feeling a real competition when it didn't matter whether or not I actually participated. I've got the armor, got the guns you could get. I'll just pick a faction at random and see if I get a discount next week or not. It just didn't matter. 3 Factions and Rallies in both games were of a huge benefit because as mentioned before, you would just passively aquire reputation/tokens just by playing the game as you would do. You didn't have to go out of your way to gain these faction rewards. You just play and you did get progress to some armor that you wanted or some guns. In D2 you could activly go for it if you really ,really wanted to, allthough the most optimal thing usually became kinda boring. But even then, I could just do my strikes, do my public events, play some crucible and at the very least earn myself some extra shards and gunsmith materials. It wasn't much but it was honest work. SKIP Now I would like to provide ideas on how to make faction rallies interesting. To say what was good and bad is one thing, but the greatest feedback is always the one that comes up with an idea that the devs can consider. A suggestion on how to implement factions and rallies back into Destiny 2 in a way that is useful for every kind of player and has real meaning and impact: 1. First of all make factions be availible once again for everyone 24/7. Let them sell guns with weekly rotating rolls, armor, perhaps mods and planetary materials in exchange for tokens. It worked in D1 and would immediatly make factions relevant again for every player. I'm sure for Armor 2.0 , you guys will come up with reasons for us to grind armor, so perhaps additional ways of getting perhaps newly introduced resources would be helped out greatly via factions. But that is ofcourse just speculation. 2: Reward players with tokens that they can earn by literally doing anything in the game from opening up some chest in a patrol, do a patrol mission to doing a raid. Ofcourse scale it appropriately for the activities. Like 1 token for a chest. 10 for a strike or crucible match, 15 if its comp. 20 if its a raid. Lets say you have to spend 50 tokens to earn 1 rank up. Introduce a sponsor-buff. Wear armor, weapons, shaders, emblems and anything else from the faction you're commited to and earn additional tokens in return. You get sponsored by them and in return you make them look good. Perhaps limit it to the faction rally week itself, but definitly have that in there so that people have reasons to truely represent the factions that they are loyal to. It makes the event even more exciting as well when you can physicly see your rivals and allies as you play the game. It ads a sense of community within the community. 3: Reintroduce faction rallies. Once a month rallies come back and people can spend the tokens that they've earned to the faction that they like. Bring back that feeling of competition that definitly did stir up the community every now and then back in the day. What should be the rewards? Simple: Weapons with curated rolls that can only be aquired from the factions rally, so no random drop or anything that you could earn at random from a rank up if you're lucky. A handcrafted roll. Each rally, take one gun from each faction and introduce 2 curated rolls. One that is handcrafted for the PvE players so that they might find something new to use and one that is handcrafted to intrigue the Crucible players among the community with a PvP roll. Only winners get to use the weapons, losers have to hope for another faction rally to offer the guns and then win again. How much effort would all these curated rolls be? 18 rolls in total across 9 weapons split between 3 factions. Considering a season lasts 3 months, that is not a lot of work if you ask me. Rare perk combos or impossible combos are always interesting to see, so I could imagine that the devs responsible for that would come up with something good. 4: Give players commitement rewards. About every 50 rank ups, they should get a goody pack that is filled with materials, shards, enhancement cores and a fully masterworked item, in the similar fashion of how Heroic Menagerie grants fully masterworked gear that is not curated. Encourage commitement with such kinds of rewards. It doesn't have to be every 50 rank ups, but if there were actual reasons for players to stay commited for a full season, players would have to make that sort of choice that is meaningful in a way. Do I want to jump around from faction to faction as I please and see what I can get or do I stick around for 3 months and see what amazing rewards I get? Exotic class items as we had them in D1 would easily be a great way to keep people be commited. I would say throw in a tracker that shows how many times you've ranked up with a faction and if they reach a certain score, there's the rewards and if they change factions it goes back to zero. Boom , there you go. By making factions availible 24/7 with a boost on faction rallies week, you can create an event in the similar fashion to that of Iron Banner. Crucible is always around, but with the Iron Banner you can double dip on rewards, so even people that aren't fans of PvP still participated for IB because they would get 2-3x valor, crucible tokens and iron banner tokens+ gear. By offering curated rolls as the reward during a faction rally for the winning team, you have unique rewards availible that aren't as unique as lets say an exotic or a pinnacle weapon, yet could still give players a feeling of such kind. Curated rolls are exciting to get no matter what gun it is as they usually have a certain idea behind the design. They may not all be must have's yet they're still at the very least interesting. Thinking back of the days of Trials of Osiris and The Nine. They had weapons that were well crafted curated rolls, not random, not exotic and somehow still interesting for players to go in on these events and try their luck. People could farm different weapons and replicate the rolls, yet it was still worth going in there and get the OGs. I see people still to this day go and chase after curated rolls that you can aquire right now in the game somewhere. Twilight Oath, Ringing Nail, you name it. Some are genuinly amazing and people wnat them. Giving loyal and dedicated members of a faction curated rolls that technicly not everyone will get sure will stir up the competition, could leave a bitter taste for some but it would give people bragging rights in the same way as some people can do with their Raid weapons or their Not Forgottens or the flawless weapons from Trials D1. People will care about factions and it will be great for pretty much everyone as everyone can participate, everyone can earn fancy rewards just by turning in their share of tokens and even if their favorite faction does not win, they can still get the regular random rolls that for them personally could still be a great reward. I hope this is getting seen by the right people. Thanks for taking your time to read all of this. :)
