not only that but the race to figure out outbreak prime, touch of malice, farming for husk of the pit in the first mission from dark below, the sleeper quest at the top of the rocket in the cosmodrome, that secret knight boss in the ship in the dreadnaught, going for godroll red spectres, having only one titan smash per super, the weeks of hammers being busted, hitting the ground at 2mph and getting killed by the architects, i miss everything

  • Makes me wonder why D2 started out so empty.

  • Inter-company strife between Bungie and Activision, more than likely. Bungie probably wanted to tell an epic (if slightly unfocused) story, but needed time to develop it. Activision was totally cool with that as long as Bungie made them a buttload of money. I'm willing to bet that Activision was breathing down Bungie's neck so to speak, forcing them to focus extremely hard on microtransactions, taking dev time away from all departments, and most likely taking all the wind out of their sails. I would feel like the only reason my product had any value was that it was making some other company money, and all the stuff I wanted to add that would make people care and like the product had to be knee-capped for it.
