I'd really like to see Scouts and Auto rifles buffed come Shadowkeep

They've been pretty much nonexistant in PvE and PvP since Y1. I'd love to see them come back. Not sure what the best way to do this would be, but it'd be nice to use something other than Handcannons all the time. Edit: Wow, thanks for the response Cozmo! Now I'm no game designer, but here's my opinion on what I think should be done. Aggresive and adaptive frame Pulses are dominating the mid to long ranges where Scout rifles SHOULD thrive. I think both could use a range nerf, but especially aggresive frames. Scouts could also use a straight up damage buff so they can compete with other popular pve weapons. Auto rifles just need a straight up damage buff to compete in the mid range where HCs thrive. Maybe knock Handcannon range back SLIGHTLY. The guys below me have way better suggestions, this was just my take. I was JUST talking to someone about how the Valakydyn was my favorite y1 weapon. Glad to see they're being talked about!

    • Auto rifles need buffed for sure. Who remembers pre nerfed Suros back in D1 vanilla? That was a beast. I also remember the high pitched pinging sound it made when it fired. Players hated it so Bungie changed the sound effects. I miss D1.

        • Tbh, I would consider playing again if both Scouts and AR’s hit harder then they do now as I liked playing a more passive role in combat.

        • Think ARs problems are that they are really unforgiving. Now I know noobcannon noobs are gonna comment saying I am full of it ARs are the easiest weapons and bla bla bla. To that I say no it is the opposite handcannons are the easiest weapons to use and ARs punish you way to much if you do not land crit shots. You can land body shots with ARs and still be punished due to how stupidly pitiful ARs body shot damage is. ARs not only punish you missing shots but for also landing body shots. That is stupid to be landing shots and still be punished for it.

          • Scouts need a buff, but at the same time, scouts are just useless. Everything feels closer, not a lot of areas where you need range. AR could use a buff maybe just the crits.

            • I'm going along with this. I arrived after the original SUROS Regime nerf, but I remember the days when SUROS Regime was a highly usable weapon, back in D1. And also, I remember the days of squashing snipers across the map with my scout. Both weapon types have been too weak for too long.

            • The problem with nerfing the better primary ammo weapons is that special ammo weapons become even more powerful in comparison (that's what happened in D1 when snipers and shotguns were all people used, which eventually led to ammo nerfs). I'd rather see slight buffs to weaker primary ammo guns instead. Special ammo has a place in the game, but it shouldn't [b]always[/b] be the best available option, because then it's win if you have ammo, lose if you don't.

              • They shouldn’t have nerfed Scouts in the first place. Yes they were the best Primary for a long time but when Forsaken came out and they buffed everything else I feel they would’ve been in a good spot. Right now they’re alright and I only use two scouts (No Feelings and Night Watch) which have great rolls on them

                • As someone who has loved good Scout Rifles throughout all of Destiny (Vision of Confluence, Chaos Dogma, Garden Progeny 1, etc.), I would love for Scout Rifles to come back into being more relevant. I can see how balancing them for PvP is especially difficult, but I would mostly only use them in PvE anyway. I recently noticed that half of my primary weapon inventory is Hand Cannons, the rest being an SMG and two Pulse Rifles, which I think just shows how the meta is right now throughout Destiny. There aren’t good enough Scout Rifles and Auto Rifles that you want to use them. Everybody has been complaining how many exotic Hand Cannons have been added lately, and while I wouldn’t complain about that, you have to admit there aren’t enough Scout or Auto Rifles on the exotics page. A buff to all weapons in these categories might help, but I think we also just need more good weapons added to the game soon. Of course nothing game breaking like a Scout Rifle that two-shots people in PvP, but just something that is worth using over a well-rolled Hand Cannon right now.

                    I don’t agree with nerfs unless the weapon is clearly dominant, the weapons types like HC’s and Pulserifles are over used because theirs no other viable option to use for decent TTK’s. Look at a hand canon TTK for example. 3 shots consecutively dealing 57-91 per shot. That’s instant damage that can be delt before someone finds cover. Look at an AR’s TTK... you need to maintain a line of site for longer. You need to be able to land 2 to 3 times the bullets on a target that’s able to take cover during this time (not optimal) What I’d like to see from AR’s is a doctrine of passing level of TTK return for 900rpms and have the 450ish range receive a critical hit buff to promote better aim. Pulse rifles could use a range nerf, this alone will make scouts more relevant. I’m really not a fan having to fight entire teams camping in the spawn with scouts so I’m not a fan of them to begin with lol

Glad to see they're being talked about![/quote] They don't need a buff. They perform just fine. It's the player base. Everyone orgiasticly flocks to hand cannons paired with shot guns. If they seem op, I'd blame the over use of a the gun type. Do just fine with bow and duty bound. Or at least I have fun with that type of load out. Depending on what gun your using, you'll find it's strength and weakness just by using it more. But I guess to each it's own.

                          [i]They've been pretty much nonexistant in PvE and PvP since Y1[/i] Using AR as my primary all the time ( masterworked Halfdan D rampage, drop mag, and minor spec ) - the best primary I had and used. So be more careful with your statements
