Like this if you want the menagerie chest exploit back

I think that the chest exploit made the menagerie more fun since it allowed for easier grinding, and I’m pretty sure most people agree with me when I say that the chest exploit at the end of the menagerie made it much more fun. I would like to see this return, and I think it, or something like it (maybe limiting it to 3) would be beneficial for the menagerie. Edit: The comments did a great job of highlighting that there would be no way that they would keep something like this in the game. They also highlighted that the passage above was more of a butthurt rant whining about the chest patch, which is 100% true. I think that the idea to give extra chests for flawless encounters is a good idea. To add on to this idea I would say that each chest after the first one should double in the amount of runes required per slot. This would help players spend all of the runes that they have been accumulating since the patch.

  • The only way you should be able to get more loot is successful completing each encounter and you get three chests at the end.

  • It’s still a great way to guarantee a certain drop the best we currently have I don’t see a problem with it working as intended. They take a little bit longer than a strike and you can go after the exact weapon you want from a list.

  • I don't think we should add the exploit back.. However I do think there should be a sort of middle ground. For every encounter you do flawlessly (aka getting the maximum amount of points possible) you get another chest at the end, obviously a max of 3 including the final boss chest. I feel like this would be a good middle ground it makes grinding easier but it doesn't just go handing loot out.

    • Instead why not have each round you complete flawlessly reward a powerful reward? and with your runes why not sell them to spider or convert them to mods only available for menagerie weapons and armor?

    • Honestly what they should have done is. 1. Complete an encounter worthy of the triumph should spawn a chest. Meaning a total of 3 chest would possible for a perfect run. Then for heroic it could be sort of the same with an additionally chest if you complete the flawless run(boss fight). 2. Leave the glitch but cut the timer in half. why 300 seconds?

    • I don’t think an exploit is the solution, the real Solution is granting players a lot more loot. If players used to get up to 5-6 weapons per exploit then the menagerie should simply reward 5-6 weapons per completion, thats it.

    • Let me start by saying that it does suck that the bug is patched. Of course it was more fun when you could get 5-6 things per run, but let's think objectively for a moment. Considering all of the activities in the game and their ability to drop the "god rolled" gear you precisely want, the Menagerie is easily still the best choice. Consider the following: Raids: While rewarding they take very long, and require prep time. Sure, if you've got a legit group lined up and ready to go then it can be quite fast, but I personally only have 2-3 friends that play this game (and that's still more than a lot of people have), so LFG is a must. Needless to say, Raids are not fast or efficient in terms of grinding, especially considering RNG is still a factor in which guns you get. Nightfalls: Nightfalls in my opinion need to take a page from D1. The skeleton key system was perfect, because while you still had to grind the key out, once you got it you could go into ANY Nightfall you wanted and get the specific gear from that Nightfall. That way there will be no more waiting for a specific strike to be available, only to run it 10 or 20 times just to get one gun to drop Strikes: Strikes are in a bad spot right now in my opinion. With the lack of any Strike-specific loot, the possible loot pool for strikes is massive, so grinding for anything specific at all is next to impossible as you are lucky to get a gun or armor piece you're interested in, let alone have it drop with good rolls. Furthermore, they take around 15-20 minutes to complete, and at most can give you 2 powerful drops (daily+weekly) but normally grant 0-1. Story Missions: Story Missions fall under the same problems that Strikes do in terms of gear grinding. The loot pool is too big, and their only practical use is getting a powerful reward from it once a day and once a week. Gambit/Crucible: Gambit and Crucible fall under the same roof in terms of loot grinding. Long frustrating matches with a large loot pool make grinding for specific non-pinnacle gear next to impossible. These activities are primarily used for farming powerful drops or for going after pinnacle weapons, but in terms of farming for a precisely rolled gun are not good sources for farming. Forges: Now we're getting somewhere. With the introduction of Forges, Bungie did something they had never done before, let the players chose. That said, the process of farming forges is incredibly monotonous and horribly inefficient. After selecting a frame, you've got to load up a patrol zone, get kills or other requirements. Then you've got to kill bosses, then you have to go back to Ada and get the frame again, and THEN you can do the forge. While the Forges are a step in the right direction in terms of farming for specific gear, they are VERY slow feeling, and do not have control over the masterwork slot, unlike it's usurper, the best farm in the game, the Menagerie. Menagerie: An average run takes 15ish minutes, although I've seen as low as 10. It mainly depends on how many Blueberries you're stuck with and what encounters you have to complete. Additionally, you can chose specially what gear you want, and it's masterwork, and there is a fair chance that you get two drops per completion. There's really no contest. It does feel bad that it's not as efficient as before, but the Menagerie is still the single most effective farming activity Bungie has ever created, and all the playerbase does is whine about it. Next time before you immediately jump to "Bring back the glitch!" Consider the other activities, and realize that the Menagerie is still a fun, fast, and rewarding activity.

    • Yeah I didn’t think it was that big of a deal the way it was. You’re still limited to the runes. Even with the way it is now. I still have to grind a good bit to get “runes if desire” then you basically never get the roll you want.

    • I never truly thought that running back and forth to get the chest to reset was an exploit, i thought since you had such an enourmous amount of time thats what you had the time for, to put runes, run back and forth open the chest, repeat. I mean why else is the time before your kicked to orbit so long? and if its because of collectibles i have only found 2 of them and that was from just straight walking into them by accident.

    • It was a glitch. It was a nice glitch though. Played through my first run since the patch and it felt more like the end of the first week. Just slower play which is really the biggest issue. With fewer higher skill players grinding for gear it just sort of draws out the activity even if it is still engaging. I hope there is some compromise coming (getting an additional chest per segment completed with time remaining seems like a worthwhile way to prioritize efficiency and execution), but I 1000% would have preferred they leave the glitch in place until they had a solution.

    • In the end, just because they need to fix a glitch doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. It felt more rewarding getting more then 1 chest to open at the end, especially with how shitty the rng is.

    • It doesn't matter if you want it back or not. Bungie isn't putting it back. That's not the way it was supposed to work. So keep making the threads. You will get about as much traction as the "remove enhancement cores" threads.

    • You can get through the Menagerie pretty fast if your team beats the time at each step. With the exploit it didn't really matter. All you had to do was just hang around until the clock wound down at each step, finally kill the final boss and then go for your 5 or 6 drops. Everything is going to change, particularly armor, in a couple of months.

    • Eh. In the end, it was a glitch. Menagerie takes about the same time as a typical Nightfall, but with targeted grinding. I’m not all that upset. An extra chest or two would be nice, but I don’t think it’s all that terrible as it is.

      • They won't allow that again, but hopefully they add a second chest or something. Adding a few more opportunities to get loot, will buy a lot of positive vibes from the player base. Or, they could * gasp * make other activities in this game more rewarding.

      • I’d like to see maybe an extra mechanism that allows additional rewards. For example, completing all of your Werner bounties for the week gives you an extra menagerie reward. Or maybe adding weekly menagerie bounties that encourages skill and teamwork and give you extra menagerie rewards. It doesn’t have to be free, it just needs to be possible.

      • Yeah, them fixing this was bullshit. They create an activity that people LOVE with an 'exploit' that was hardly even an exploit. 2-3 legendary, non powerful rewards is hardly a ridiculous reward for an activity that can take up to 30 minutes considering some of the human noodles who hop into matchmaking. I just dont -blam!-ing get why Bungie would sqander some of the only goodwill generated in a long time to fix a "glitch" that doesnt even really offer much of an opportunity to get ahead of others and moreso just encourages people to play...

So you are moaning because in order to get more loot you have to play the game? Personally I didn't know about the chest cheese (or whatever you want to call it), till after it was fixed. Hasn't made a difference to me. Menagerie is really fun and as power levels go up doesn't take anywhere near as long. Plus not getting one shot is always nice lol. If they bring it back it just makes even more new content superfluous. Plus loads of people are doing fine with it as it is. It would make more sense to introduce some kind of incentive for extra chests so that it encourages team work. Not everything in a game should be about grind.

        • Everybody should hopefully "like" this because it would bring some fun back to the game. Having it for awhile and then taking it away resulted in a lot of pissed off people. I was one of the unluckly ones who wasn't aware of the exploit when it was happening so I didn't get to take advantage of it. I probably wouldn't have anyway as it was described as an exploit and something you could get banned over. Not worth it for me.

        • No, keep it gone. Instead, make people want to get the rewards. Tie the amount of time trials you complete to the amount of chests that spawn. This will give the incentive to players to learn the quickest strat to each encounter, and will encourage team work to complete said trial.
