A big thing missing from todays FPS AAA games, is the effects, good and bad we have on the universe. We shoot pixels with shiny guns for reasons we don't care about. This was vaguely teased at the beginning of the vanilla campaign. The EDZ missions with Hawthorne were about securing communication lines and procuring supplies for refugees from the city. Nothing like facing down a Hive God , but equally as important if we are really praised has saviors and paraded through the last city in ceremonial armor. The average civilian on earth never sees what we do, our heroic actions are relayed through the vanguard channels. But why should you care that some guardian killed an alien boss in some far off system or planet if your family starved to death. Or was killed trying to make it to a safe place by a Fallen,Taken or Cabal , or Human Raiders taking advantage of there vulnerability. You wouldn't care. We need Escort,and Rescue missions in Story and Strikes Escort could be its own playlist -3 Fireteam Members, optional matchmaking -A group of civilians(people who cant kill an alien) -Alternating routs that your fireteam votes on -Alternating enemies(Fallen,Taken and Cabal) -Enemies increase in power has you get closer to safe zone -Could Face a random number of bosses blocking final safezone checkpoint. -Hawthorne becomes Civilian Rep vendor, offering armor with EDZ and mission related perks If Bungie has more writing for Mithrax , perhaps DLC were we escort Fallen Civilians and Hatchlings to safety I am sure Bungie could flesh it out much more than I can, but its just an idea I have in my head , and it would really make us feel a connection to the world we supposedly protect.
