Honestly, it sounds like you're playing it wrong.
No seriously.
Enemies scale to you, unless it's something like Terrormorphous or something like that.
What level are you?
What character?
What perks are you running on your 'super'? (sorry, don't know what else to call it)
Are you leveling up your perks on your baddass points?
Are you using guns, shields, grenades, mods, that are up to your level?
Are you upgrading you backpack size, number of guns you can run, ammo and grenades you can carry?
Do you know how to do this?
Are you using the elemental guns and grenades to their strengths on enemies weak to them?
Are you alternating slag to the element that hurts that enemy?
Do you have a high powered sniper rifle? (does not mean elemental, just high alpha)
Or are you just trying to Rambo your way through the game and not playing conservatively when it is necessary?
It really isn't a difficult game, unless you're impatient or you are trying to over use things that you should have either put in your vault or dropped.
Also, I saw posts about Gold Keys.
If you have a facebook or twtiier account, they give out Gold Key codes on there weekly. Sign up, collect the keys, but USE THEM SPARINGLY if you are low level. The Gold Chests give out great gear, but it is at the level you are at. Once you level past it, they're worthless. Save the keys for when you are nearly maxed out.
I had like 78 or something when I came back to the DLC. Since beating it, I opened the chest about 45 times and got some really awesome things, and gave many to my son because I didn't or couldn't keep or use them all. The ones neither wanted, we sold to the vending machines for more money.

I am a level 23 Zer0. I don't have any skills that directly affect Decepti0n yet, but I do have a shitton of super high melee multipliers and decent crit multipliers. My badass rank is over 600 and I constantly use the tokens I get. Everything is over 2% All my weapons and gear are either unique or purple and they're all level 20+. The only thing that isn't unique or purple in my inventory is a blue smg I have that deals electric damage and is my highest level weapon. I've used eridium to upgrade all my maximum ammo capacities once, my grenade capacity once, and my maximum inventory 3 times. I can have 4 weapons equipped. I have a weapon in every elemental type in my inventory except fire, but health doesn't give me much trouble for smaller ads. I have a purple sniper rifle. It's the only thing that deals consistently high damage to things and it's my slag weapon. However, ammo for it is rare, and if I rely on it too much (which I tend to do), I run out of ammo pretty fast. I'm forced to play conservatively now because of how fast enemies kill me. Even though shotguns are my favorite weapon type, I can't really get into short range anymore because I die too fast, even if I spam Decepti0n. As for golden keys, none of the codes I find work. They're either too old or are for different versions of the game. I made a SHiFT account and everything but nothing works. And I checked Twitter but it seems like all the new codes are for the Pre-Sequel. I only have one that I got for getting the Handsome Collection, but I wanted to save it for when I beat the main story.

Ok It sounds like you have a handle on the primary parts. Playing as Zero, you're not going to have as much ability to play aggressively like Alton or the Mechromancer. You have to play ranged and conservatively until you get your Deception skill up to full potential. Even then with it's cool down, you still need to be better at cover and distance. Never leave a box, crate, dumpster, pile of whatever untouched. Sniper ammo is more abundant in some areas, but you're not there yet. I never ran out, and use it quite often, but I also use ARs with explosive damage at times when in a spot. Some shotguns are awesome street sweepers, but you have to take down the bigger, badasses and such from range first before you can go on a shotty spree. Pick your targets by the weapon. The Gold Key codes are only for the Golden Chest in Sanctuary. They are not specific to a DLC. But as I said, as Zero you have to play conservatively. Grind all the side missions you can find to help you level faster, don't just play the main story. It helps, and some side quests give you things that can be very handy.

When I put that ps4 code in it said it was for a different SHiFT enabled game. I like being close range with Zer0 because of all the melee multipliers, but I guess I'll try to hang back more to not die.

Did it say it was for the collector's or goty edition or something? I just have normal Borderlands 2

It shouldn't matter. Codes are for Gold Chests in BL2, not specific DLCs.

I know that. But the version of the game or something obviously matters or else the codes would work.
