New players join the Destiny universe all the time, but they aren’t always familiar with the game world. How about a new lore tab is added with the title “Guardian Handbook”. This lore tab would be completely unlocked by default, and would be available to all players. The lore entires would be basic information about that game, and the game world. Information such as “What was the golden age?” And “What is a Guardian and what does it mean to be one?” Alongside basic information there could also be lore tabs on the Taken War, SIVA crisis, the Red War, some background info on our enemies and allies. Mainly this would be to help new players ease into the world, and subsequently the lore of, the Destiny universe. All this could be used to to clear the air on some lesser known things such as the history of certain Titan orders, Warlock schools of thought, and hunters codes to the wild.
Dunno, just an idea.
Thoughts?
Edit- So after some feedback some alterations could be put in place. Player exploration and growth were ignored in the OP. So when first booting up the game (and playing through the intro) the player has info on basic info that can’t be accessed through gameplay. Info such as: Oryx, Crota, The black Guardian, Fallen lore, Hive lore, Basic info about guardians, and events in the game worlds past. Info that can be learned in-game could be unlocked through gameplay but just playing through story missions. No scavenger hunts. This is meant for new players to be able to get involved with the game. Not grind their rear ends off to learn that the fallen weren’t always space pirates.
Thoughts 2.0?

My idea for the lore is all the stupid NPCs are replaced with actual real characters with a real personality, and that the story be actually dark and have real consequences. I could jam a pencil in my urethra and write a better universe than what we've got rn.
-
That’d be cool ,Like when a character kills their first fallen a “The Fallen 1” card appears and gives a brief description ,As more are killed new cards drop ,getting deeper and deeper into the Lore ,while educating new players ,but also providing new information to Old as well ,like having new details on the Whirlwind that happened centuries ago
-
hell they could have it be a series of vanguard reports of the events if D1 like Stolen Intelligence
-
Hmm I dunno. Intended or not, the lack of straighforward info coming from all sides may work in favor of mystery, getting to explore the lore yourself and possibly playing previous installments in the long run.
-
I’d love to have a section of lore like that. Like when you go to a planet for the first time you get a bit of info on it. Kinda like destiny 1 when you had to go and unlock the sparrow transmat when you first got to a new area. But you’d get info on the place. Like an adventurer’s guide to Nessus or something like that. Some basic info to give new players an idea but leave out enough for them to find on there own. Like the mystery of how the Exodus Black crashed. Not that there is a mystery, but this would create new avenues for story telling. GREAT IDEA! Good work, Guardian.
-
Yea please

The idea is great, but the execution might be difficult. Lore is best told in stories, not in stating facts. But for it to be easily understood and friendly to newcomers, it needs to leave out the mystery and stay on surface level. So something in between the two might work, but finding that sweetspot is difficult.
-
I think this idea is amazing, more people that play Destiny need to get involved in the rich and interesting lore, which is currently hidden in a treasure trove where hardly anyone can find it
-
Fantastic Idea ! I’m getting the vibe of a “Previously on Destiny” feel from this kinda how MGS2 and MGS4 handled this with the “Previous Operations” tab which detailed the previous events and lore.

The banking clan will sign your treaty
-
I think you get it empty with things like siva or warmind but as soon as you get items relating to it like warmind lore for warmind items a new page gets unlocked so players dont get lost
-
That would be AMAZING. Not for me, of course, but for friends who are new to the franchise.
-
Agreed, however it shouldn’t be unlocked by default. It should unlock an entry per campaign mission or so- or maybe unlock a few about guardians after the first new light mission, and unlock the others afterwards. Maybe another way could be things related? For instance, talk to Saladin and get an entry for SIVA. Veteran players can have everything unlocked automatically.

Edited by Chucky: 6/21/2019 3:56:17 AMExcellent idea, I know that it's my friends fault that they don't enjoy the story as much as it can be enjoyed because they don't read the lore but I would like for it to be pushed out n the player a bit more, maybe use lore bits on he loading screens, throw in some art and it would be amazing

Question: "What is a Guardian and what does it mean to be one?" Answer: "You are a dead thing made by a dead power in the shape of the dead. All you will ever do is kill."
-
I absolutely love your idea here.
-
One of the things that makes Destiny's world interesting is how mysterious and dangerous it is and as you uncover the lore around it you eventually deep-dive or dont care. It would be cool but it might also take away from that mystery and need to find out.
-
exalted_lemonade You make some valid points and i agree that eververse must be removed from this game but, Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather, he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank just outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold

Almost every other lore-heavy game I’ve played gives you basic info on new stuff you encounter. In Mass Effect, for example, your first time meeting a member of the various alien races gives you a Codex entry about that particular race.
-
it could also update as you discover new things in the world, for example starting a hunter adds a page about hunters. encountering the hive for the first time adds a tab regarding the hive. and so on to let the players learn more about the things they encounter without something being spoiled for them because they read their lore tab ahead of time (such as reading about the scorn and thinking "oh its just these guys I read everything about already when I started the game" instead of having that sense of dread that came from encountering this strange new force we knew nothing about when starting forsaken.)
-
Good idea Way too much detail though It could dive into everything major such as twilight gap, black garden, taken war, scorn outbreak etc on a surface level and it should give references to those topics and where to find more of those topics. Like not every new player will think that this dude called Dredgen Yor was of any significance when in fact HE REALLY -blam!-ING WAS
-
GREAT IDEA
-
Along with that, they really need to make all story missions playable from the directory. It would be completely unnecessary for new light players since they would already be at 750 power level, but at least it would give some context to what's going on for those who care.
-
This is a great idea. It might even help players who haven’t gotten invested into the lore get acquainted too.
-
I say yes
-
I think this is an excellent idea.
