#Gaming- Do you put stock in games journalism at all these days?

Yes

No

I can't stand them. they're either shilling for an AAA title or they're trying to stir controversy where there really isn't any. about 5% of all games journalism is worth reading/ actually reports the news/informed reviews

Nope. So much of it is just ill-informed, politically motivated or outright lying about things. The current so-called 'controversy' surrounding CyberPunk 2077 really has me wishing they would just disappear into irrelevance. I go by my instincts and that usually works out for me. Looking at videos without any sort of commentary or spin. Going to events to play the games beforehand.

Me when I read video game articles: "I just want to see the quest steps for thorn not your autobiography!"

    • No, most of the articles put out aren’t worth the time it would take to skim over. I enjoy reading about what I can expect from upcoming games, but beyond that gaming journalism is really unnecessary. I especially hate when gaming Journalists assume everyone wants to hear their opinion so they write an entire article detailing the one thing about a game that annoys them that nobody else cares about whatsoever.

    • Gaming "journalism" is a joke, it's filled with political and personal agendas, contrived outrages and people who care as much about games as I do about fungus (which is to say not at all).

    • Yes, assuming by games journalist we're talking about the independent sites and some YouTubers. Games activists on the other hand, hell no. The latest with CD is funny. You essentially have an activist site accusing CD of tokenism by working with the creator of their game (who happens to be black) to divert from the fact that the activist is just being racist.

      • Definite nope. Games journalists these days seem so out of touch and struggle to play modern games at an average level that I can't really take them seriously. This is not even mentioning the clickbait articles that I see everywhere trying to stir up some shite. There is exceptions but overall, pass and would look up official news for games from studios themselves over a journalist.

      • There are two "journalists" that I trust when it comes to gaming. Jim Sterling for gaming opinions and general punditry about the unethical behavior of corporations. Jason Shrier from Kotaku. His opinions suck but every investigative report has ended up being verified. The troubled development of destiny 1, 2, Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem all verified. The plot of Assassins creed Odyssey, Origins, and syndicate all revealed years before launch. The confirmation of the existance and plot of Fallout 4 a month before launch, and the list goes on and on.

      • Nope. I pretty much only rely on reviewers on YouTube for game reviews. I find I can better rely on them for accurate info because they've (usually) played the game enough to have a fully formed opinion and have the experience in gaming necessary for reviewing. The Completionist is one of my favorites. While he doesn't do every game that comes out (simply because he can't considering that he %100 every game, kinda his whole deal), he usually gets to big releases quickly, does any game both good and bad, and doesn't let his opinion get swayed by popular opinion.

      • No. The only comparable thing I’m interested in is just gameplay videos. Just simply reporting and showing information about it.

      • For me all I do is watch quick clips of gameplay and I can pretty much tell if I will enjoy it or not.

It’s mostly just obsolete now that you have independent journalists on YouTube getting a lot of traffic. Only traditional games journalist people seem to care about is Jason Schreier.

          • Not really, I mostly get my info from youtube or some obscure game article website (hard to find a good one these days), or I just hear about it from word of mouth.
