Here's the bottom line on Iron Banner
Here is the bottom line for Iron Banner.
At over 2500 hours logged into Destiny 2, it is safe to say that I am not a casual player. However, the grind for iron Banner is very tedious and time-intensive, even with a dedicated team.
I want to do iron Banner because I enjoy playing Iron Banner and I don't mind working towards objectives even if it eats up most of my weekend. However, this grind for this particular iron Banner is in my opinion over the top. I want Bungie to respect my time as a player. I would love to play Iron Banner for fun instead of doing objectives where I'm forced to use different types of guns that I don't particularly like to run around with such as auto rifles and Scout rifles and other dumb weapons.
I really have lost interest in Iron Banner for the first time in Destiny 1 and Destiny 2. Why would I want to go and grind for armor that is going to come with random rolls and I'll be lucky if I get two or three drops by the time I get done with this ridiculous Quest on one character and never probably finish it on the other two characters when I can spend my time in a more substantial way inside the Menagerie getting multiple sets to drop on exactly the type of armor that I want and have a better chance of getting the types of roles that I want on that armor?
This, by the way, is exactly what is wrong with the Reckoning. I have no desire at all to go back into the Reckoning for any reason. Get together a fire team and hope that you clear the objective and get a chance to get a piece of armor that has a chance of getting the item that you want. I'm just done with it.
I'm not a hardcore gaming YouTuber. But I am a hardcore gamer when it comes to Destiny. And even this is too much for me.

Don’t even worry about the quest, just play IB if you like it. While the rewards are lackluster, at least it’s something else to do besides the normal bounties. We have the entire season to complete it. There’s no point in stressing about it 2 days in.

2 RepliesI was hyped on Tuesday. Logged in after work, picked up all the bounties and the quest, jumped into IB for a couple of hours only to find out that "Test of Strength" is the only way to get the armor. I havent touched IB since Tuesday. Ill probably wont even complete the 7 powerful gear bounties as Im already 750. Meanwhile Ive been doing the Menagerie, got a god roll shotty, a god roll HC and enough armor pieces to build a set with perks to my liking. Ah, also got Wendingo on the road grinding runes in strikes. I cant be bothered to grind tens of hours of IB for an armor set, sorry but I cant do it when I can much more in that time.

The grenade kills portion easily takes the longest and gives the worst reward of the bunch (class item). The rest hasn't been too bad though. The one with sword kills and such really doesn't take too long and I'm doing it at 719 fighting nothing but people over me.

1 ReplyThe bottom line for me this time around is that I turned in 200 saved tokens and got some weapons with decent rolls (at least on paper, all in the vault for now) and I was on my merry way to get more some 750 stuff from weekly chores. Hunter boots are definitely the new ‘Edge Transit’ now, shit won’t stop.

If you have completed the Armor triumph then there is no point in doing Reckoning any more.

I have already invested 8 hours in the quest and I just got to step 5 which I think calls for 50 IB completions. That is easily going to take another 5-6 hours. That's a total of 45 hours in a week. I don't even work that many hours at my professional job where I get paid. Needless to say, this quest is far beyond even people who consider themselves hardcore players. Had Bungie not decided to change armor for a third time in September -- which I am actually pumped for and love what it sounds like it's going to be -- this quest would not have been such an issue. But the fact that Bungie wants people to grind this much for armor that will most likely become irrelevant in Y3 is such a slap in the face. I am definitely skipping Solstice unless Bungie come out and say that that armor will at least become an ornament in Y3. This kind of stuff is what I fear for September. Bungie can give away the game with New Light and bring in a bunch of new players but if this kind of meaningless grind continues they wont retain any of them. Hell, even if IB was a Fri–Sun event every weekend it would make the quest a little less unbearable. Luckily for me I need 5 resets in a season for Broadsword quest so I need the Valor anyways.

1 ReplyI think this season is much... much.... more enjoyable than last season. Grinding 2500 iron burden kills made me forget how to play crucible. Jotun and run. for 250 matches.

I think there is a lot of improvement in this IB, but some of the steps in the quest are too grindy. Them grenade kills in step 3. For a underlevelled player such as me, you have to prime first and finish with grenade.

You can play how you want. Don't go after the quest, your teammates will rack up percentage for you. Destiny sucked without RNG, I thought you were a hardcore Destiny gamer.

Like why did I bother getting the year 1 gear if I literally have to go through an unnecessarily tedious quest to make it relevant. Should’ve just made it so the gear was already in pools for people with it.
