Hard to Swallow Pills

Buffing everything up to the power of lord of wolves will not fix the problem, but instead, it will create power creep, making other weapons more irrelevant than before, and forcing bungie to design encounters that are made with insanely overpowered weapons in mind.

    • They should have stopped trying to keep raising the power levels, they are not working. My level 400 lock in D1 feels worlds more powerful than my 500 lock in d2

        • Lord of wolves is not that powerful people are just that bad. This community complains and fails to grasp even simple concepts. If they nerf lord of wolves all that is doing is just making a weapon worthless not even worth using. Dustrock still out classes any shotgun to the point that it should be a heavy but nobody is even batting an eye. Why would I want a shotgun that takes multiple hits even with the mode over 1 that takes just 1? Wavesplitter easily outdamages it and thats a trace people just really suck at this point no other way to put it.

          I totally agree: sidearms need to be nerfed ASAP. Can't see stacks run around with those any longer!

              • That's if you buff damage or impact. They can buff weapons to be useable and fun at least. Take hardlight for example. It has an annoying screen shake that a lot of people wish wasn't there. And so far it's not going anywhere. So removing screen shake wouldn't be making the weapon more damaging. 180 hand cannons are great. But without kill clip or rampage they take 4 shots to kill. That's 1 more shot than the rest of the hand cannons. But people use them because they have little recoil and bloom. Nerfs are necessary to a point. Bungie has a knack for destroying weapons and armor entirely. Most of d1 is a good example. And they left it in the crappy state where you lose all special on death in pvp except for sidearms. And sidearms were ridiculous. A good rolled sidearm could outgun tlw easily because they didn't have bloom issues like hand cannons. Nerfs are necessary if they're done right. Bungie just isn't good at balancing anything.

              • This guy gets it. Nerfs are necessary. The community refuses to acknowledge it, but it’s absolutely true. If nerfs didn’t exist, everything would continuously get more and more effective, until everything is just laser stable, fast handling... just better in every way. Ttk would also continue to plummet until everything kills instantly. At that point destiny would turn into CoD. And that’s the last thing a space action looter-shooter should be.

                  • Sorry but no. Power creep isn't that quick or easy. Guess what, you wouldnt need to make content "super-hard" you just make it more skill-based. And what would be wrong with more encounters and weapons having depth greater than a puddle. Power creep only occurs over long, SUSTAINED periods and ONLY if old content isnt updated in line with it. It's completely possible to buff weapons without causing a power creep, other games manage fine.

                      Nerfing anything that's strong into the ground isn't the answer either. I'm all for balance, but neither the community, nor Bungie, fully grasps the concept. Take the Super regenerating Exotics, for example. Bungie practically destroyed them. You barely get more than a quarter of your Super back from them now, even if you kill a large group of enemies. That not balance. [i]Balance[/i] would have been capping the energy gain when your Super meter fulls about 75-80%. Edit: For those of you who may take offense, and misinterpret what I'm saying, I agree that Lord of Wolves is, in fact, [i]broken[/i] in its current state due to the recent sandbox change (may be a bug/glitch as a result); my concern is that Bungie will likely do what they often do: overreact, and make an absurd change that will render it underpowered.

                      • It's a lot better on pc than console. The Ace of Spades got nerfed because it dominated in PvP on pc but due to ghost bullets and bloom on console, not so much. I've seen videos of pc players able to control the kick on the lord of wolves to the point where all the rounds have a tight spread and can send all of them right into someone's face. On console with a controller it's a bit more difficult. There's more spread, more body shots and more likely to miss shots on a moving target. I'm not sure if it should be nerfed yet... on console anyway.

                        • LoW isnt overpowered really though... If you're rushing straight at them, they'll melt you. Thats what you get. Ive seen at least 15 people using it, and while they get kills with it, they end up being low on the scoreboard after the match. There arent many people who can really make LoW the beast it supposedly is, so leave it alone imo.

                          • LoW has sniper range....I personally tested it out. Didn't watch whateverthe-blam!- video people keep talking about. It feels like of shotguns people kept crying about x10. It needs a fix. Bungie would never buff everything else. They've nerfed too -blam!-ing far to revert changes. Plus (and I keep saying) the same people that said keep it as is are the same ones who cried about LH, NW and other op things. Can't have it both ways ffs.

                          • My turn: reducing the power or utility of something to a reasonable level, comparable to all the other available items isn't 'nerfing an item to the ground', it's making a balance change. Don't get me wrong, Bungie has flat-out demolished many items, but we need to stop being little babies whenever somethign we like / crutch on is made more reasonable, yet not useless.

                          • Here's another one. After this, something else will be considered OP and we will all pay for it. I remember before the great Pulse and Hand Cannon nerf of D1. I loved MIDA multi-tool then, and it wasn't ever cried about. Fast forward to the days over a year later, it hadn't changed since year one. However, it was the last remaining thing that wasn't nerfed by then, so everyone cried it was OP. Simply because everything else got nerfed, that gun was considered OP and got HCR removed. Let's be careful about this snowball effect this time, people. LoW is broken and needs a change, but don't start crying about Pulse rifles and Hand Cannons afterwards. Scouts compete just fine. Auto rifles are garbage. One of these things is not like the others, and it ain't because it's good.

                          • @werdunkel nerfing isn't a solution either, we've been down this road since the days of D1 and it doesn't improve usage of multitudes of weapons or really even the playing field. A better solution should be found.

                            I haven’t played too much crucible this week, only around 5 matches, but I haven’t been killed by LoW once. I’ve seen it a decent amount, but they’ve never managed to kill me. I play on PC so idk if it’s different on console, but still. I may be wrong, but they didn’t adjust the range or damage at all in pvp I think, so couldn’t it always map people like it can now? Granted now it’s easier to setup the perk as it doesn’t require a kill, but still. I used LoW, Duke, intertia override and antaeus wards all last season in comp to get recluse, and dominated with that build. I got fabled in like 20-ish games with random people I messaged after games to team up. It just seems people are finally realized LoW is a good gun. But also I agree with your post, buffing everything only leads to power creep which only leads to disappointment by the community when new content requires certain exotics/ builds to do (reckoning needing orpheus and pheonix protocol to be doable for most groups) which only leads to nerfs.
