the menagerie is proof that raid matchmaking can be a thing if.

if you make the raids have no instant fail state and completing the encounters would maximize your rewards... then make the heroic raids have instant fail states... the reason the menagarie works is cus everyone can play it so practice makes perfect its taking so long because its such a big group and their will always be that blue that dosent know what youtube is but everyday there are less and less of them... let them play the content to learn the mechanics... edit 1: thanks for the feedback... add skill based matchmaking. edit 2: yo thank you again for the feedback i hear you loud and clear.

  • Bungie is tone def, like a lot of the players in this game. They are OK watching their game die, so long as they can keep the raid special for just the clans and LFG players. Shame.

  • The community should not be split on this topic. There is a solution that could benefit everyone. Regardless of whether you support matchmaking for raids or not, you can benefit if they are offered. If you are opposed - think about how many times you’ve needed a sixth guardian and had to wait a long time for someone with experience and skill. If you are for - think about what makes raids great. It’s the challenge, the coordination, and the feeling of success when it all comes together. The Menagerie offers a way to pass or fail yet sill progress. The base raid can implement a similar mechanic where chest and boss drops are linked to performance during an encounter. Even if all encounters are failed, and the drops aren’t the best, the match made team progresses to the end. The whole time they are developing raid experience and skill. The next time a team of 5 needs a sixth guardian, there will be plenty more available trained in the match made raids and ready for some good loot. We should try to avoid being black and white about what is good or bad for the game and focus on areas where everyone wins.

    • well you pissed off the try hard raid lords. anyone saying no to matchmaking is an idiot and narcissist for 1 reason - no one would force you to use matchmaking! anyone that does raids now in groups of 6 still could, matchmaking is an option and frankly more options are never bad. the jerk offs who use accomplishments in game to feel accomplished in real life are the cancer of the playerbase. not even saying make them easier, just have it as an option. instead you have these gate keeper fanatics going nuts anytime a change is mentioned.

        • It works like that because Destiny 2 has the lowest intelligence in the fam base I've ever seen. I knew nothing about the menagerie the first time I jumped in, but because I'm not legally or figuratively -blam!-, I knew what to do in every encounter simply by...get this... listening to what was being said by Calus and READING what was in screen. I then used my brain and the easy to understand concepts repeated through out the game to complete every encounter

          • People get so BH over this topic. We have guided games. That piece of work isn’t the best because it’s not easy to find 4 other clan mates that raid well. And if they did, I probably wouldn’t want to be in that clan... because the loot sucks. In D1, raiding was how you reached maxed light. So I did the raids. Once I reached light, I still did the raids to get at ‘meaningful’ exotics. What do we have in D2? An OP shotgun or 1K voices? Everything else is trash. The legendary gear doesn’t outplay anything that’s already available. Onto matchmaking. We can have matchmaking. What?! No way! How?! My team will be filled with unreliable randoms. It is never going to work! -So why you loading up the raid by yourself anyways? If you knew you needed a team of 6, wouldn’t you have LFG before? How does this affect our current system of clans/LFG? -Another way to get around this is to have an option to allow matchmaking for this event. Otherwise it loads as normal. Solo, partial, or full fireteam with no MM. And who is worrying about how established D2 is anyways? It’s already in shambles and is a shadow of its former light.

                • You wanna know why Crota was so easy? Because you could run through the whole raid with barley any communication and they had mechanics equivalent to something you would find in a strike.

                • It continues to amuse the everliving -blam!- out of me how vehemently people oppose matchmaking for destiny, particularly in raids, when games with vastly more mechanically complex raids like FFXIV do have matchmaking... I mean all Bungie has to do is follow square enix's lead : design raids fairly simply for the first version to get people familiar with the encounters , a normal mode , and Savage mode ( heroic in our case) that adds the brutal wipe mechanics and extra conditions for victory in a new phase at the end of each of the encounters. I mean I look at it this way , I see alot more people participate in FFXIV raids than destiny raids , and I would be willing to bet the numbers if you compared them would back that up

                    andddddddddd you literally just described why matchmaking for raids shouldnt be a thing. If you remove the instant fail states/what you're wanting, it then creates an "easy" mode. Then, the power for easy mode will be dropped. Then, it becomes a stepping stone to do the actual raid. That ruins the actual raid experience. WoW literally did this and it's widely considered to be one of the downfalls of raiding in WoW. Even what you're suggesting ruins the entire point behind raids. It's like asking for an easy mode in Dark Souls/Sekiro. Let the art be art. Secondly, Menagerie is even more of an example as to why matchmaking SHOULDN'T be a thing for raids. A group of 6 randos are pretty bad at menagerie, and if it weren't for the fact that you don't fail when the timer runs out, random groups literally would never complete menagerie. If people have that much trouble in menagerie, you think raiding is going to be easier? Hell, they're making heroic menagerie non-matchmade as well.

                      Menagerie doesnt require thinking or communication/timing to complete, you cant fail the menagerie, you just get send to the next minigame until you fight a boss with a easy mechanic. They would need to dumb down the raid if it had matchmaking, because ppl cant even do the corrupted strike or heroic public events properly. some ppl just dont put in the effort to learn stuff and goodluck kicking matchmade ppl like that because you cant. Also how hard is it to join/make a lfg post. You already made your way here to complain so how hard is it to do a couple clicks to acces "find a fireteam"

                      So how is a matchmade activity where there are no punishments for dying, not even close to difficult mechanics (this weeks boss, kill adds and toss a ball at them), where 5 players can be clueless and still get carried by #6, where when you run out of time you just get more encouters to run till you hit the boss which itself isnt even a darkness zone compare to far harder mechanics, deaths requiring tokens to revive, a time limit and necessary communication and smart play? T3 reckoning was far harder then the menagerie and most people hated the randoms they got in that...so how well would raids work? If anything reckoning is a clear display of why raid mm would be an abysmal failure and menagerie being easier then that proves nothing

                      • If somebody can’t figure out how to potentially find a team on the internet, then I don’t think I want that person on my fire team to begin with. Have some intelligence people.

                        • The menagerie technically doesn't have mechanics seeing you can literally do none of them and still pass....... raids don't work like that.
