Year one gear should have been on rotation in the store for direct purchase, with new seasonal items being available via Opulent Engrams.
It's brillant actually. Bungie found a way to give us nothing but crap in the engrams , like the same boringsparrow in 367 different colors, but word it in a way that sounds like they're doing it for us. So they can hide behind their "noble intentions" while deliberately pushing ppl towards spending real money for all the cool new items. That's exactly the kind of corporate bullsh****ery you need to get your employees behind such a controversial change, and if you're lucky you might even manage to convince a few naive players that it's all for them. Just think about how many changes Eververse and its business model have seen by now, and just think about how many cool armor sets and ornaments were locked behind Eververse, and you will understand how important Microtransactions are for Bungie. Nothing but money matters to this rotten company. And this will never change.

 • Microtransactions are important to Bungie because Destiny is going FTP with New Light. I can complain about the timing, but the new model in September is that everything new to New Light comes at a price. Expansions and Eververse items are part of that. I commented on the negative changes of the Eververse at the beginning of the season, but after the New Light reveal, I think it makes sense. I miss the Prismatic Matrix, and the Bright Engrams, but if this funds the development of New Light which helps bring in new players: I'm all for it.
Microtransactions are important to Bungie because Destiny is going FTP with New Light.
It's not really free2play, it's the typical Bungie smoke & mirrors show. The current content, and everybody knows that the current content is pretty much the only relevant content in an MMO, will still be behind a paywall. This is a clever rhetoric trick to lure as many people into the game as possible to throw them in front of Tess. If we call this free2play we might as well call World of Warcraft free2play because you can play for free until level 20.
I can complain about the timing, but the new model in September is that everything new to New Light comes at a price
Everything with Bungie comes at a price. Always. The whole industry is shifting away from paid DLCs, just Bungie insist on this model. That in itself wouldn't be an issue but when you offer predatory free2play microtransactions on top of a pay2play model it becomes pure greed.
but if this funds the development of New Light which helps bring in new players: I'm all for it.
Bungie is funded for years by the cash from their new Chinese investor alone. Bungie's never had an issue to be profitable or come out even, for them it's only about maximizing profits.

 • New Light is FTP. Expansions are paid for. The only revenue for the FTP core of the game comes from the Eververse. I could download New Light on my Xbox and play the core of the entire game. Pretty sure that even includes the Moon in Shadowkeep. I just won't be able to play the Shadowkeep story missions, or activites, but anything found in the open world is free.

 • The Industry: I agree, much of the industry is moving towards FTP, but games comparable to this are employing the same model. I could be wrong, but WoW and ESO do this too.

 •
New Light is FTP.
Maybe but the real game is not free2play, and never will be. They will make sure to cripple the base game experience as hard as humanly possible, just like they did with the non-anal pass owners.
Pretty sure that even includes the Moon in Shadowkeep.
Source? I call bs.
but anything found in the open world is free.
See above, please source statements like these.

 • Check the video I posted. The he starts talking about all the locations you can visit in New Light around 1:08:00 Here's the list: -All of D2 vanilla -All of Curse of Osiris and Warmind -only the locations of Dreaming City, Tangled Shore, and Shadowkeep (the moon) - I'm also assuming that any new location added to the game will also be available.

 • My source was the reveal from last week. Can't remember where it is in there, but I think it's during the Datto Q&A section near the end. Listening to it now. I'll post the timestamp when I find it. If I can't find it, I'll post that too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0wVt0cnDTg
