In the Forsaken era, LL was just a number that made no difference to gameplay, other than that in order to be allowed play the new content that you've paid for you have to spend minimum 30-40 hours minimum on busywork each season to raise that number doing the same old chores, with Bungie making activities more or less rewarding to funnel you towards certain things whether or not they're actually what you wanted to play at that moment in time. And then do more chores to be allowed to level up the gear you actually enjoy using.
Since I've been playing Destiny, I've always thought that the endgame proper started at max light when you start looking for rolls / pieces for particular builds. I would much prefer a system where they drop or seriously curtail the LL mechanic, but people who want to grind their faces off can *predictably* get God-tier armour / masterworked weapons with perks to fit particular playstyles at the end of it, rather than relying on RNG for the vast majority of the time ... another thing I hated about Y2. Yet another problem with Forsaken era is that basically in general play all the armour was samey as hell, builds weren't really a thing unless you're getting into the Gambit stuff.
Tbh I feel badly burned by how Y2 turned out, but if I see some moves in this kind of direction, it *might* just convince me to throw more cash at Bungie. Grinding for builds could actually be fun and rewarding, but LL in its current form is just tedious and frustrating for me.
