IGN's Fireteam Chat had a very good stance on the nerf. They said one of the problems was how 90% of the bosses in this game were designed. They all have a stomp mechanic, which teaches us to use long range weapons to avoid massive damage and possibly death. Then you have them all just being giant versions of normal enemies with an easy to hit crit spot. So everyone's like "OK, I need a long range weapon that specializes in hitting crits." What's the first weapon that comes to mind? Whisper.

We have been saying this since the twab, FTC probably got that off the forum. Bad design coupled with no reason to use anything else is the problem, and bungie took the easy way to fix it.
-
Yup. This is why the nerf for something like whisper is kinda pointless. People will just start using DARCI. It's not going to change people's load outs until boss design changes.
-
I will give Bungie credit where credit is due though, the Whisper was able to circumvent the heavy ammo economy and that is questionably strong.

They knew that when it was added though, they also knew that any weapon that creates its own ammo is an issue due to Icebreaker. If they'd made whisper the same as spindle from the get go, none of this would be an issue. We didn't pay for the game to test it.

That's what I've been saying about boss design since Destiny year 1, Dark Below! People used to rip into me when I said that the Ghorn nerf was stupid because the boss design was the real problem and Ghorn's popularity was just a symptom of this problem, but here we are Whisper is popular because of poor boss design and everyone is going crazy!
