Cozmo, dmg.....we need to talk.......

I can see that the array of nerfs that were announced in last night's TWAB are going over **about** as I expected they would. I've really got to ask you---your devs really---a very simple question: Do You Really WANT To Be Making a Loot-Based Game With Destiny? I ask this because at every turn for the last 6 months I see you guys doing things that show that you either don't UNDERSTAND these kinds of games, and what motivates people to play them......or you don't RESPECT those reasons why.....or both. People play games like Destiny in PVE for one simple reason: POWER. The power to do things in the game that they can't do in real life. They GRIND for more power, so that the game gets EASIER as they progress in the game. BECAUSE THAT SENSE OF POWER IS THE ONLY THING THE GAME HAS TO OFFER. Yet for the last 8 months, you're devs just keep SABOTAGING the game. At every turn you are either REFUSING to give the player power....or taking BACK power that has already been given...and yet you seem confused as to why player are angry...and why they are getting frustrated and going to play other games. This game has one of the most broken progression systems I've ever seen in a loot game. At every turn its designed to limit what power (loot) the player can get from the game, and pry out of his hands (cores) what power he does have. The other half of the problem is the sandbox. You are asking people to grind inordinate amounts of time for rewards THAT ARE NOT POWERFUL, AND DON'T MAKE THE PLAYER FEEL POWERFUL. We grind for "pinnacle" weapons that are basically nothing more than god-rolled Legendaries from D1. You have an entire ARMORY of exotics that are basically USELESS. You have legendary heavy weapons that are almost laughably underpowered. IOW..... NONE of the items that got nerfed are "broken" or overpowered from a PVE persprective. IF YOU GO BACK AND PLAY DESTINY 1, ALL YOU GOING TO SEE IS THAT THESE EXOTIC ARMOR PIECES SIMPLY GIVE YOU YOUR SUPER BACK ON ABOUT THE SAME RHYTHM THAT YOU GOT IT IN DESTINY 1 IF YOU HAD A HIGH INTELLECT BUILD. The reason why people only use those exotics is because they are the only one's in the sandbox that make you feel powerful....and the only ones what actually CHANGE how the game is played in a meaningful way. ...and now you want to take that power Away....AGAIN. ...AND YOU WONDER why people are mad. They are mad becasue you are breaking the fundamental contract that lay at the root of every good loot game. That player effort will be rewarded with power....and people are getting angry and frustrated because at every turn you want people to play your game, while you refuse to reward them with new power...and TAKE AWAY power that has already been granted. To the point where Whisper of the Worm has been given the EXACT same treatment that Black Hammer did. We LITERALLY have gone in a big circle with that weapon. I assume the next move is that it too will be removed from the game..... It is LONG past time your devs stopped hiding in their offices, and actually FACE this community and get to know them....and understand WHY it is they play this game. Otherwise they are going to keep doing TONE DEAF things like this.... ...and they are eventually going to lose this game...and lose its players to OTHER games that understand them, and reward them.

  • GameRant published an article approximately one year ago that addressed the "Go-Fast" update to D2. Remember that? Here it is: https://gamerant.com/destiny-2-nerf-popular-gun/ Just a couple highlights: Quoting Bungie (it's all caps in the original article): “WE WENT BACK TO THE BOARD AND LOOKED AT EVERYTHING AND SAID, ‘HEY, HERE ARE A COUPLE WEAPONS WE FEEL LIKE ARE IN A REALLY GOOD SPOT.’ AND BY ‘REALLY GOOD SPOT,’ THEY’RE KIND OF HOT. THEY’RE PROBABLY TOO HOT FOR D2. IN D1, PEOPLE WOULD HAVE SAID (PROBABLY CORRECTLY), THAT MEANS WE WOULD NERF THOSE THINGS. THEY’RE NAILS THAT ARE STICKING UP OUT OF THE BOARD, AND WE WOULD HAVE HAMMERED THEM IN TO BE EVEN WITH THE BOARD. FOR THIS UPDATE, WE DID THE OPPOSITE. WE SAID ‘THESE THINGS ARE KIND OF HOT. LET’S BRING EVERYTHING ELSE TO THEM.’ SO WE STARTED RAISING EACH THING UP WHETHER IT BE IN PVE OR PVP.” In a video teasing the update,...Sandbox Design Lead Josh Hamrick says that Update 1.1.4 looks to make players feel more powerful with faster movement, stronger weapons, faster ability charge rates, more frequent Power ammo in the Crucible, and more. Hamrick went onto say that this update is definitely a step towards Bungie listening to players and acting on their feedback in ways that they want, calling it “a motion towards what we all believe is the right direction.” Read that last part again. "...what we all believe is the right direction." Strange that it's not the right direction any longer. Not strange that Hamrick no longer works at Bungie...

    • I think they will hit us with these nerfs until it comes time to hype up the next fall expansion when they will be asking for more of our money. About a month or so before that big expansion we will start seeing buffs. These buffs are designed to get you hyped to dish out money for the next expansion. Also to make it seem like we have more “power” again. They are taking something away and then they will give it back right before they ask for more money from you. Bet. Vote with your wallets people.

It often feels like like content or at least weapon quests etc are thrown at us in times of community displeasure, with no actual longer term plan. They said ages back that they realized we wanted more so they gave us more power, more speed etc..remember the go fast update. And when you consider there's supposed to be a 10 yr plan in someones files, its hard to understand why things are always so. The lastest round of announced nerfs, while seemingly sensible given Bungie's explanation, just makes me feel this all the more. Why give us Whisper, without looking forward and thinking how is this going to affect things in 6 months. And then to have them say after the activsion split that they were trying to decide on a Bungie only way forward...maybe should have thought that through before split, because i cant believe in the corporate world activison just decide to ditch the game one day and did so the same afternoon. Everything they have done in D2 has ended up feeling almost haphazard given how they usually undo whatever they did at a later date. Given how Outbreak is already one phasing bosses without the catalyst, its would appear to be a pretty safe assumption that it will nerfed too with 6 months if not come september. Its not that i would want them too, but its hard to not acknowledge how strong it is out the gate. So given all that has happened...

        • I actually think Bungie’s explanation was perfectly well explained. The only issue people can legitimately grip about is not having enough testing/foresight of their own roadmap to see it coming before hand and therefore prevent from having to nerf in the first place... But... here is the issue that I don’t believe is actually solvable: Pinnacle gear of any kind, by its name, means it is “better” than anything else. It’s the only reason anyone would be willing to commit the time to acquire it. This means that over time every new piece of gear becomes the only reasonable item to use to be most effective. So when the next update comes along it has to be created with the last pinnacle gear in mind, which makes other gear even MORE less useful, which leads to the next pinnacle gear being even better. This is the power creep they’ve discussed over and over again. This in turn leads to the inevitable nerf to the best gear to rectify the universe for a little while longer. Bungie basically has to snap their fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet once in a while to reset the universe. This has always been so and will always be so. Every new “awesome and powerful” item must eventually be brought back to norm or they end up artificially adjusting content like bosses to have to account for every pinnacle weapon or armor in existence. The only reasonable answer to this is to dumb down the “specialness” options of everything so they could guarantee it wouldn’t break any future content, and that would be major handcuffs to the creative designers. It’d be like having to constrain every new Star Trek series to the canon of the previous series. At some point you break the timeline, add a time travel or alternate reality episode and viola, you have a new series that has no handcuffs and they can get back to good stories and content again. They may not be perfect at this, but Bungie is trying their best to keep a franchise we all love going so I, for one, won’t begrudge them doing this from time to time.

          • In my opinion things that hardly require skill should be nerfed things that require more skill shouldn’t. Latest nerf they will do on the Whisper is making the gun completely useless. No one will use the gun anymore. Why would they do that.

              • Wow.... very overdramatic!!! Lol! It's not that bad. We have asked Bungie to be more transparent and they are..... then they get crucified. These nerfs are going to allow more build variety... and Im sure they(Whisper, Sleeper, exotics, etc) will be great options.... just not the only way to go. Kudos to Bungie for making the hard decisions despite the whining!

                • It's odd how they went from D1 to this and the only thing that makes sense to me is that they don't have the manpower to make the necessary changes for this game. (This is just my opinion) The loot system is not broken but it's on the verge. The economy is broken but there are simple changes that can improve it. The RNG in this game is just straight out stupid. The design for most gear/weapons, not much thought has been put into them. The duplicates in this game are in just about everything from mods to power engrams. Cores were added to the game because of the lack of loot to use them on. D2 has become more about running bounties, power engrams, cores instead of chasing loot. The vendors in this entire game have not been properly updated. Factions were removed only to be brought back if and when as a carrot. This is a given, but the "balancing" in this game has major issues. Creating PvP/PvE game modes. No strike specific loot No new maps knowing 4v4 maps are the cause for a lot of the issues in PvP. PvP literally needs 6v6 maps period. All raids should have a hard mode and normal mode, giving both "casual and hardcore gamers" their incentive to run the raids. I only listed a few things wrong with this game and (without the manpower,) these problems will continue to exist for a long time, and that isn't even me including all the coding issues gamers have brought up on the help forum, D2 forum Reddit or where ever else these issues are brought up that this company will most likely not get to most of it.

                  • I don’t think the weapon nerfs are going to change much, but the armor nerfs definitely shoulda came out with some announced buffs at the same time. I understand why skull and orpheus are getting nerf’d, but there’s not much out there that either class are supposed to use over it, and I imagine these are all getting nerf’d in preparation for the content in opulence. I just wish we got some announced buffs with it.

                    • The best way to let Bungie know you don’t like their decision making abilities and disagree with the direction the game is heading, just stop playing the game entirely. Zero, nada, zilch, nothing, none, nope, never.... Put down the controller and don’t play for a week or two, or indefinitely! Just stop playing, the player base numbers will dwindle away and Bungie will realize what they are doing, maybe.... 🙄 Just don’t buy the next annual/season pass and stop playing the game immediately... #EndGameDestiny #EndGameBungie

It's Bungie's new business model! Give you a powerful carrot to chase and then take it away from you and replace it with a new one for you to chase. Sleeper Simulant- huge buzz - NERFED. Ikelos shotgun--huge buzz - NERFED. Whisper- huge buzz -NERFED. Outbreak Prime- huge buzz - WILL DEFINITELY BE NERFED! They purposely make these weapons op to create the 'I must have it' feeling and then purposely nerf them to the ground. They never have or will respect the time we invest in their game.

                              • Kelly, I appreciate that you write these posts because you care about the game and clearly want it to be better, but it's not doing you or anyone else any good repeatedly banging the drum, because it may as well be your head against a brick wall. Bungie are not listening, they are not conversing, there has never been this 'ongoing discussion' they repeatedly mention and the cycle of manipulative behaviour they set in motion years ago just loops again and again. * Add something cool and get us all buzzing, announce major changes a short while later. * Add something to grind for or obtain, nerf it later (once we've wasted our time). * Make a significant in game change, roll it back later (and sometimes not even admit it). * Promise not to do something again and just do it again anyway. *Etc, etc. Why do any of us put up with it? I get it, it's Bungie's game and they will do what they like, but their stubbornness and unwillingness to converse or learn will be the end of Destiny. We need to all wake up and realise when the enjoyment has stopped and we are just playing for the sake of it (or are addicted). There are better things to be doing with our time than trying to improve our hobby when in reality we have no say whatsoever.

                                    •
People play games like Destiny in PVE for one simple reason: POWER.
Incorrect. For many there is also the point of challenge. Read the TWAB, they specifically mention that those exotic pieces were ruining the games challenge they meant for the game. Power should never break this game. There is a balance between power, and challenge. These exotics significantly BROKE that balance. I got a question for you all and I really want you to answer this question. How can you make something stronger than Unlimited Supers or Unlimited Heavy Ammo? Answer: You can't. That is the absolute maximum power that could be made in any game, and it should never be acquirable as it breaks it. If you are struggling in any activity in D2, you are just BAD. Destiny 2 is the easiest looter shooter to play, and it gets boring fast. Bungie has stated over and over again, they want a balance of power and challenge. If you want to mindlessly break a looter shooter go play Warframe! Its the only looter shooter that lets you mindlessly break the darn thing.

                                        • They nerfed ace of spades so guardians who run around the crucible with less than 4 resilience have a better chance. Sorry, but if you run less than 4 knowing that you will incur more deaths that’s on you. And if you don’t know then you’re new or don’t care enough to know. My personal opinion is whoever runs the sandbox is tired from getting killed by the ace of spades.
