I decided not to vote. As of right now Whisper of The Worm is the best weapon for ranged DPS, small crit and especially big crit. I see where Bungie are coming from trying to get other heavy exotics back into play. People won’t like when a meta shift happens in any game, but it changes everything and people learn to adapt.
As of right now Whisper of The Worm is the best weapon for ranged DPS, small crit and especially big crit
Only with encounters that last more than 2 phases. DARCI has far better Burst-Damage DPS, for instance, my clan specifically uses DARCI over Whisper in the final encounter of Scourge of the Past, because it makes it possible to actually 1-phase the Boss.
I see where Bungie are coming from trying to get other heavy exotics back into play.
Bungie specifically states: "an Exotic that can generate an infinite amount of Heavy ammo is still a gigantic outlier and renders many weapons irrelevant for certain encounters" But what weapons does it render Useless..? As a Heavy Sniper, its only Exotic Competition in its slot are DARCI, Sleeper, and Queenbreaker. All other Heavies that compete in DPS are in different range categories. For instance, Prospector, 2-Tailed Fox, and Anarchy are all Mid-Range. Acrius, Wardcliff, and Tractor Cannon are all close range. So if their goal is to make other Exotic Heavies viable to compete, then they have really failed at that, since DARCI already exceeds Whisper's Burst-DPS and only falls behind in Sustained-DPS (which Whisper will no longer have), and they are nerfing Sleeper too. Queenbreaker also would need a massive Damage buff to compete with those 3. So what exactly is the goal here? To make it compete with Izanagi's Burden and Borealis, which they just recently Nerfed lol..??
but it changes everything and people learn to adapt.
The only thing this changes is the ability to use Whisper to Solo certain encounters such as Dul Incaru and Argos, for the very high-skilled players. Beyond that, Whispers primary trait is that it bypasses Ammo Economy. Without that trait, the weapon losses its Exotic Utility. With the nerf to Phoenix Protocol, there is really no reason to use it over Lunafaction boots with Well. So I guess they succeeded in driving players to a DARCI-Lunafaction Meta, and instead of increasing Endgame PvE Diversity, they managed to somehow reduce it.

  • Good for Darci. But whisper is great for easy stagger. DPS in 3 single shots. Lets say you dont have a well (lunafaction) either for like a strike or lunafaction or something like the Thorn strike where supers are meant for ad clear and you rely on whisper for damage. It does constant damage instead of reloading. For a big stationary boi I would use whisper because its a high dps viable range

Yes but what you just described is a very specific scenario. There are enemies that move around or teleport, enemies that Dont Stagger, enemies that can open or close their crit spot, or have Shields. Boss Encounters with plenty of Ads designed to Stagger your shots... If bungie wanted, they could easily just design different scenarios like they had in the past, such as Crota’s Shield (that took no Crit-Damage) or Atheon’s Tiny Crit-Spot. Instead of getting creative with encounters, they would rather just nerf our current options into the ground. But the reality is that all this does is further Limit our options by making Whisper literally unviable in every situation compared to DARCI, by making Phoenix Protocol less effective, Encouraging Lunafaction-Well. All they have done is eliminated and Replaced Meta Options—not Expand and Diversify them, like they did when they buffed Acrius and Wardcliff and like they did when they nerfed the Whisper’s Ammo Capacity to 9.

  • Armor has nothing to do with a one of the “very specific scenario”. Bungie didnt not design exotic armor for a specific activity type. If you are talking about the closing shield teleporting Shaw The Thrall weapons are more appropriate

  • Just gonna ignore the rest of my comment? Okay, Ill dismantle this too. Armor is just as important to Endgame “builds” as weapons, that was my point. The nerf reasoning specifically cites the effectiveness of Whisper and Super-Returning exotics like Phoenix Protocol, in Endgame activities. Basically, making sure there is more Exotic Diversity. If you are DPSing in a Raid Encounter, you are using Well of Radiance or Empowering Rift. Using Whisper means you dont have to reload. That means you dont need to be using Lunafaction Boots or Rally Barricade during DPS. You still Can use them, for instance, if you miss a Whisper Shot, or if someone is using DARCI instead of Whisper. However, the reason for Nerfing these exotics was to increase Exotic Diversity in Endgame PvE. The reality is, it has Shoe-boxed Warlocks into running Lunafaction boots, and Shoe-boxed serious Raiders into using DARCI. It has actually Reduced the amount of viable Endgame PvE exotics, rather than Increasing that amount.
