There’s such little reward in Destiny 2 for your time it’s embarrassing

I’ve finally had enough of destiny 2. Why might you ask? Three letters - rng. The loot award system in this game is -blam!-ing atrocious. Over six months of ascendent challenges and no dreaming city ghost. 44 scourge of the past raids and counting and still no anarchy or exotic sparrow. 44 last wish before I got my first one thousand voices and 74 before I got my second. I’m happy to play a game but to spend literally days of my life to get absolutely -blam!- all is a complete waste of time and a kick in the teeth when you see your teammates earning something three or four times over before you get it once. And then I read you’re buffing drop rates for gambit and the reckoning activities which I have no -blam!-ing interest in whatsoever. Two words - tone deaf. Most of your player base are screaming at you to up the drop rates for certain activities or introduce a nightfall type system where each run enhances your opportunity to earn the pinnacle weapons attached to the raids. Do you listen? No -blam!-ing chance! I’ve given up caring anymore and you can go and -blam!- yourselves and your stupid -blam!-ing game. It sucks and the fact a game you made five years ago is way better shows how little you’ve learned since you developed destiny 2.

  • It's a difficult balancing act. When Destiny 2 first released, we received a lot of feedback that things were to easy to earn. Without random rolls, there was no reason to replay activities to re-earn rewards. Without RNG, things were missing the spark of Destiny 1. An example we'd see was players replaying Vault of Glass numerous times for the Mythoclast. That said, we're doing some tuning on RNG. Reckoning will have better chances, and bad luck protection, for weapon drops. We're making sure the Nightfall rotation brings back activities more frequently for the unique weapons/rewards, and ada-1 bounties offer bounties for every weapon so you can grind out your desired roll. We've also introduced Pinnacle Weapons - players have given a lot of great feedback on how they enjoy the straight path to a reward, but we've also gotten poor feedback that the path is sometimes too easy or too hard. All in all, Destiny 2 will continue to evolve. Whether it be tuning RNG, Sandbox, Crucible - the experience will continue to change. Cheers to all who are coming along for the ride.

I believe this game rewards you more the less you play. Yup you read that right. Case in point? I don't play the game nearly as much as I use to. Yet recrntly I've been showered with exotics. Literally. And I've been playing mainly PvP. I actually got the Oathkeepers and Gwisin Vest back to back the other day. A few weeks ago got One-eyed mask and Wave Splitter. Haven't raided in a long while and I wouldnt be surprised if I got 1K or Anarchy after a few tries. I'm not sure why it is but it's been like this for awhile. I can have friends play once in a blue moon and grt rewarded with elusive exotics. I personally think the game has a secret 'Welcome Back' mechanic for RNG. Meaning if you take long breaks from playing you're more likely to get cool rewards as incentive to keep playing: "Hey we've missed you, here's that exotic you use to grind for but never got! Now won't you stay awhile??" :-)

This is why I stopped playing. The very last thing I did before taking a break was a spider bounty. I slog through the usual enemy nonsense in the same old environment I’d been through before, get to the boss, died for a stupid reason and then... put down the controller. Because I realized, I was going to go through all that again just to get what... an engram that would be one light higher than my other duplicate crap, and would itself probably be another duplicate? I realized then and there it just wasn’t worth it. I used to think it was just the grind, but now I know the reward is as disappointing as the grind.

        • The division 2 literally SHOWERS you in loot. Like quite literally you will get 5 to 15 high end gear peices per mission at times and not only that you can transfer your favorite perks and traits between gear pieces to make your own god rolls with recalibration. Its literally amazing I actually struggle to delete gear because after a hour of playing (not even in the dark zone which has a even higher chance of loot) i go from a storage of 40 in my inventory to a max of 100. And btw the most vauble cosmetics in the game “masks” have no RNG whatsoever. It requires you to find eastereggs in the game world to activate “hunters” which are high level bosses and you defete them and they have 100% chance to drop their masks. No RNG bullshit not doing it multiple times no you get your shit first time and rewarded for the effort of defeating some of the hardest to beat bosses in the game.

          • Seasonal weapon grind let's say the service revolver 40 bloody strikes is that going to be every time a new weapon comes out?!?! Especially when there's no strike specific loot to grind for. In D1 getting the faction exotic class item required only 25 and that was already enough of a grind. We want to have fun getting the weapon a bit of a grind is ok not to feel like a choir and take up alot of our time, we want to do other activities. Said this for D1 the rng side would massively improve if you could within time unlock all perks on the weapon and armour for everyone to pick and use and be able to require in the collections, solving vault space and actually be able to collect them all and use them as you wish. Or even having the exact same weapon let me fuse them together swap perks and build up to that god roll. So many guns missing that 1 or 2 perks that my other roll has making them both average. And let us choose the masterwork for the weapon.

          • It really is the most glaring issue right now. We have no protection from simply, good old, bad luck. This isnt a question of removing the grind from the game. Its literally so simply. Just keep increasing drop chances for an activity specific drop until the drop is earned. For weapon and armor rolls, it is more complicated, but still not ridiculously hard. Implement any system at all that allows grind to be involved for a player to get the specific roll they want. Transmog, enhancement upgrading, crafting, ect, all would work.

            • The biggest reward Bungie has given me with Destiny 2 is they cured me of my addiction to their games. I couldn't stop playing D1, now with D2 I haven't played in a month and a half and the leaks talking about Y3 being another annual pass type deal I guess I won't be back. I'll take a wait and see approach with D3, zero chance of a pre-order or day 1 purchase.

              • At least you got to raid. Was AFI until last ten days of Black armory. Grind like hell got 650 and Izanagi’s Burden just in time to grind ANOTHER 50 points. I’m 700 on all three characters and have experience in Levi and all D1 raids... Can’t even get my foot in the door now. I’m bored to death right now. My schedule means only certain times I can play (6-9pm est) and the future on endless Reckoning runs is not appealing. One can only grind so many cores... 😞 So, suck it up chief. And by the way literally 100 CE runs and not one Black Hammer or weapon core for Necrochasm. Shit happens, man.

              • Anyone who hangs around and hopes things will actually get better should be embarrassed. RNG leveling. RNG titles. RNG lore. If you can't take a step back and see how absurd it all really is, well then I guess you must be that core audience Bungie's been looking for.

                • My issue is them acknowledging certain drops or sets of themed drops being very unlikely to drop, and *sometimes* doing something about it. Look at the pinned post regarding the new jokers wild weaponry - they're going to implement bad luck protection. In the case of anything particularly desirable, random rolls keep the grind going. For one off drops that don't impact gameplay and are just there for the sake of completion, bad luck protection should *always* be a thing. Dreaming City ghost and ship are wonderful examples. The Ghost is neat look but offers no unique perk. Nothing that sets it apart from the rest. Ships are irrelevant. They act as a conduit for your transmat effect. Any ship can take any effect. Other than that... they don't do anything. So... Why are they so difficult for so many people to obtain? Even when I get those drops, I'm not going to suddenly stop playing Destiny. My attention simply shifts to the real grind. Looking for things that have random rolls, and getting the best of that thing. These triumph seals have killed this game for me. I've been missing a single braytech schematic weapon for over six months. Grinding Mars is now downright irritating to me. I don't want 18 Kelvins for any reason other than having one less thing to worry about. Bungie just needs to realize that creating artificial grind for mundane items isn't going to make people happy.

                • Bungie complained about how fast people burn through content in D1 and they can't keep up with the players. There answer to this is to hold players back and slow down their progress. That's why they have things like enhancement cores and strict RNG on raids and nightfalls and back then EP was ridiculous. They have content with expiration dates and limited time to get items to keep you coming back like Iron banner and faction rallies. They treat gamers like kids holding them and force sand box updates down the players throats because they want you to play how they want you to play and not how you want to. Limited space in vault and mods etc to keep you making you delete things and spend money on eververse to make money if you want to reaquire something or get something before the season ends. Alot of things don't make since. Like nerfing exotics like shards of galonor and making blades useless in pve but buff the slow nova and exotic skull helmet to replace what galanor was doing. What was the point. Keeping breaking things in there own game with these dumb nerfs. Thank you for finally bringing back LMGs just to screw them over when we don't already have many Legendary heavys to keep up with exotic heavy weapons. Make the Titan more useful too with a better DPS super for raids. And why you can't bring back Titans blessing and weapons of light but we have warlock super rifts which is more OP. Just dumb decisions. I could right a novel of the poor decisions they make. And stop abandoning your pass content like you did in D1. Having you guys learned your lesson. You bring up everything but the cool activities you can play with friends. Make the EP and BW matter with specific loot and Loot and random rolls. Bring back the old raids with random roles! It's not rocket science Bungie. It's common sense. Something people there lack.

The RNG was rough in D1 but no one ever complained that there wasn't enough loot to chase. Yes, he is complaining but for a good reason. They're going to increase the drop rate for something they recently released but they take (6 months to a year to increase the drop rate for cosmetics?) Increasing or decreasing drop rates for anything in this game is one of the easiest things for this company to do. Yeah, the RNG that is in the game is in it for a reason but it wasn't used in D1 in every single thing because this company was too lazy to put some real effort in the game that they had to use the RNG to slow everything down. Before anyone says anything about the loot in this "loot based game". With this Annual Pass Bungie is not offering much at all. Now, if they were doing their job as they should have been for a loot based game there should have been 36 set of gear added with this Annual Pass, and if they kept certain content relevant in this game like EP, BW, that would have been extra gear added to this game. What the OP is talking about is (mainly about cosmetics) so from where I stand, it seems Bungie is still more focused on cosmetics in this game that most don't care about then creating actual loot for the game to chase.

                      • The problem with Vanilla Destiny 2 is that you got everything quickly and everything was garbage as well. The problem now is there is still a lot of garbage, they just made it harder to get, so even when you do get what you are after, it doesn't really feel like you got anything. Replaying Borderlands 2, it does take some time to get Legendaries, Seraphs, and Pearls you are after, but damn if it doesn't feel so satisfying when you get it, not just because of their rarity, but because of the power you get. It took me forever to get a perfectly rolled Double Penetrating Unkempt Harrold, but the ability to melt enemies and bosses with just a tiny pistol made it all worth it, especially when combined with another rare drop, The Bee shield. It also doesn't help that this game is so damned limiting on what you can equip so there is only so much customization and optimization can put towards "Builds". But this is what happen when you focus more on "Balance" than fun, the game gets stale, the rewards are boring, and even all the hours of grinding can't make up for it. I would rather spend days/months/years grinding for powerful, fun gear than spending hours/days getting dull gear, especially some that I can only have 1 of in a slot.

                      • well i never could find anyone to play with considering I have a job and all. I never got to play last wish past the first boss. I haven't bought the dlc annual pass cause as a solo player there's no point to buying it for me. It's not easy to make friends online in a videogame. Bungie won't even give matchmaking for nightfall. Im not about to buy another dlc I can't play the content. I have been in several clans and it was a joke. They never hardly played everytime I posted to play just crickets churping. So I kinda gave up on anything meaningful for this game. Thats why I won't buy destiny 3 unless something changes. This game is for streamers or people with no job I guess? ? ? It's a bit much to try and make friends like I said and when leviathan was the main raid in year 1 I was being screamed at by idiots off of bungie.net who invited me to the dogs section of the raid and expected me to carry them all when i had no clue what I was doing cause it was all new to me. I haven't had a good experience with destiny 2 at all. I even played gambit with a clan and was doing very well then they just stopped playing with me. What a joke that is. People online will never be your real friends and that is the problem I have with this game. This is why Im just waiting for good single player rpg like cyber punk or something cause this game is a literal mess and people on lfg expect you to have 10 plus raid completeions when you haven't ever had the chance to even play one. lol This game is against solo play and its insulting the matchmaking is so bad or isn't there at all.

                        • Try getting everything you want in the first 2 weeks of the season and not having any goals to set. It's equally as frustrating, if not more so. You get a reward and you delete it, while your friends all get excited over their loot. At least you have something to look forward to.

The RNg is not the issue. The time-gating is the problem. As the raids are time-gated on a weekly basis. Same goes for some of the exotic quests which also have time-gating issues. The Izanagi's Burden quest for example is shady as F*** requiring a rare bounty, and the completion of a strike which only occurs every three weeks. The game shouldn't have any time gated content as far as I'm concerned. Just let players play until they burn out, they paid for the game after all it's up to them how they want to play it.

                        • I need the EP SMG for Wayfarer. But I am so sick to death of running EP on that chance that I've given up. The answer is simple - a not-unreasonable guarantee in each category of RNG except god rolls. If I were designing this game, and I had a player who had run COUNTLESS EPs, I'd know he only has this one reward left - and his NEXT EP completion would yield that thing, no question, hands-down. Everyone has a breaking point, and it's not rocket science to figure out how far to take a person before they break...
