The Postmodern Frontier, season 1 Part 4

(Click tag for previous posts) Continued from Part 3... ...”I swear, I’ll rip your arms off,” growled Rezyl Azzir, in the deadly grip of the Razer. “If I can just get... my sword!” From their hiding place adjacent to the parking lot, Batpug, Toaster, and Pancake Monk watched. “Come on! We can’t just leave him!” Toaster exclaimed. “We can,” Pancake Monk said thoughtfully. “He would die, yes.” Batpug let out a ghostly hiss. “Follow my lead...” said the wraith, vanishing in a blur. A moment later, he reappeared, and grabbed Rezyl’s hand, teleporting themselves seconds before the Razer chomped down. In a flash of light, Rezyl appeared in the air, and falling, he drove his sword into the Razer’s back. Batpug floated in front of the monster, and with a ghastly roar, unleashed a devastating voidlight attack on it. Rezyl jumped clear, and was snatched to safety by Toaster, who dashed to save him five seconds before. With a cry of “FOR PANCAKES!!!” Pancake Monk entered into the fight, blasting the Razer with lightning from his staff. Unfortunately the Razer was ancient like wizards; it knew how to defend itself against them. It absorbed the lightning in its body and unleashed it from its claws, blasting both Batpug and Pancake Monk off their feet. Toaster grabbed his energy pistol from his side and fired at the Razer. It certainly didn’t like that, or any anti-magical weapons humanity designed to combat such creatures. Already injured, the Razer was beginning to lose its strength. With a couple of more plasma shots, and a finishing slash from Toaster’s katanas, it finally fell dead on the parking lot. All four warriors finally began to breathe normally again. “What was it doing here in Enwood?” Rezyl Azzir gasped for air. “Like we know, Razers serve wicked powers like witches, troll kings, and shapeshifters. I don’t understand.” “I don’t either,” Pancake Monk agreed. “But anyone want pancakes? With extra syrup?!” The other three could only groan. ——————————————————————— Lee waited patiently on his couch for the four to return. He cleaned his rifle and made sure he had plenty of ammo for it, in case he would need it. Artemis, Assassin, Pencilsnake, and PolarSkink kept themselves occupied as well. That is, until the shrieking scream. “Oh snap,” PolarSkink jumped to his feet. Lee shot up off the couch and flew open the front door, only to see a giant winged animal flying a mere forty feet above the ground. Furry and ugly, this monster scanned the area, as if it was looking for something. “A Wretch,” Pencilsnake gasped. “Oh dear...” “What’s a Wretch?...” Artemis asked. The human scientists of New Xalhen thought it would be a good idea to take lizards and mutant them,” Assassin replied. “We’re going after it,” Lee said, charging into his front yard. He aimed his rifle at the Wretch and fired without hesitation. The others joined him. Pencilsnake shot lightning from his staff, and AssassinNWW shot his own plasma pistol. The Wretch saw them and descended like a falcon. It swooped for them, stretched out its claws... Artemis grabbed hold of everyone and teleported except for Assassin, who willingly jumped into the Wretch’s path, katana swinging. He sliced a gash in the monster’s side but was caught in the claws of it, and was carried up into the sky. It was now the Wretch’s goal to kill him with a fall. Assassin refused that death. He fought hard, twisting his body to escape its grip. Luckily being a cyborg helped him. He finally kicked his way out of its grasp and swung himself onto its back, but fell and had to grab the tail. The Wretch began to swing it, and with all of his might, Assassin hung on. He clutched the fur of the monster tight as he climbed the tail to reach its back again. He was one more push away when the Wretch turned sideways, suspended Assassin in the air, and caught him once again in its claws. “Oh, it’s like that, then!” Assassin taunted. “Well, take this!” He drove his sword into the monster, and immediately it roared in agony. “For humanity!” Assassin yelled at the top of his lungs, gripping his sword and swinging harder then he even knew he could. Instantly the Wretch split cleanly into two pieces, a swift death. Assassin was now in free fall. A thousand feet below lay the ground. ——————————————————————— The others had watched the entire thing and now they sprung into action. “Artemis! Quick!” PolarSkink shouted. As soon as he said it, the wraith teleported to the spot where Assassin would fall. As he came down, the moment he touched Artemis, they teleported once more, this time, with Assassin safely on the ground. “First a Razer, now a Wretch,” Lee thought. “We are so doomed.”
Varvatos supposes technically his story parts are longer then other’s stories , you know, paragraphs and all 🤔
Continued in Part 5...
