Masterwork Cores (Not Enhancement Cores)

Despite gaining many upvotes in dmg04's mega core feedback thread (more than any other post I've seen), I don't believe that Coz or dmg managed to see what I wrote, so here is a repost of it in (hopefully) a more visible light. MASTERWORK Cores was an amazing idea. A rare and coveted material that allows you to push the limit on weapons and armor you cherish deeply. It gave us a deep and meaningful choice on which gear to truly maximize the efficiency of. ENHANCEMENT Cores are not. Infusion is by no means a medium to make meaningful choices about which gear to use. It is a ladder we climb on our way to max power, and is more akin to simple level-ups than a pinnacle advancement system. I would 100% support Masterwork Cores being very rare or difficult to obtain, something I would get excited to see has dropped. Right now, seeing an Enhancement Core drop gives me the feeling of "Agh, finally, now I can actually use my Skull of Dire Ahamkara." Enhancement Cores as a part of infusion do not allow choice, meaningful or otherwise, in our gear. They do the opposite, railroading us into using gear with poor rolls, weapons outside our playstyle, and armor that we do not like the appearance of, because it has the highest Attack or Defense. While this gear has a better power level, we perform worse because our loadouts are not well built / synergized, and we are not comfortable / preferable / experienced in using such weapon types. I understand that trying new gear is an important part of the game, but so is power fantasy and having fun. Feeling strong and enjoying the game are much more important, and if someone wishes to only use Auto Rifles, don't punish them for finding a Shotgun that has higher power. Additionally, Enhancement Cores prevent players from masterworking their gear, because we are trying to save them for infusion instead. This function that is designed to promote choice not only fails to promote choice, but actively removes that very choice, as well as the choice to masterwork gear. Meaningful choices have no place in the Infusion process. Infusion is the sister mechanic to leveling up, it is a strictly quantitative value that bars or grants access to content by difficulty, exactly as leveling does. Bungie has repeatedly said the goal is to allow players to make more important choices about gear. If that's truly the case, Masterwork Cores will create and promote a much more meaningful set of choices. Deciding which gear to masterwork will always be more meaningful to us than reaching *700, or *750, or what-have-you. Cozmo or dmg04, if you actually took the time to read this whole thing, reply with "The Nine have heard you" instead of "We'll pass this feedback to our teams."
