Why infusion should NOT feel meaningful.

Ok, this one's gonna raise some eyebrows, but yes, you read the title correctly. Infusing gear should not be a big deal. Why? Because it wasn't a big deal in D1. You could infuse anything you wanted in D1 with just motes, glimmer, legendary shards, and planetary mats, which were all pretty common resources by themselves. Infusion itself is destroying one weapon to increase the power of another weapon, and in my opinion, that's significant enough, we shouldn't have to hunt down some super rare material to do that. Just get rid of the core costs, and replace them with like a 10 gunsmith material cost, cause you know people probably have a good amount of those. Enhancement cores should stay for masterworking. If you wanted, you could also introduce an "Ascension"-like system for Y1 loot like D1 had, and include a masterwork cost for it, but as for infusion, cores don't belong as part of the cost. The amount of times you may want or need to infuse something far outweigh the need for infusion to be impactful.

  • Ah yes, things were so much easier in D1. It’s not like you had to grind for hours on end to get the perks for your gun that are now given to you no kills required. I too remember when Sunsinger was useless because it would take several days to get its only good perk. Fun times
