Desiny Servers Still On? For How Long?

Hey guys, I have a friend who jumped into D2 without ever playing D1. Well, now he's interested in playing the first game and I told him I'd love to join him and play through all that content again. It got me to thinking if there is still even an active community for Destiny 1, and I'm wondering if there is any sort of timeline for shutting down the servers. I understand if that is proprietary information, or even if it is unknown at this time. But could you assure me that we'd have at least a few months to play through Destiny? I'd like to know before I decide to jump back in. Thanks.

 • Hey my man, if I can make a recommendation, try to steer your friend through the actual campaign in chronological order and avoid the crucible until finished with house of wolves. Because once you hit lvl 40 and start getting legendaries you will quickly out pace the light level.

 • Hey this article here should pretty much answer your question. As far as Servers go, I would be highly surprised if they close down D1 servers anytime soon, if ever. I certainly doubt you would ever have it happen throughout the Destiny franchise lifespan. Again, I would be SHOCKED if D1 servers were shutdown any time at least in the next 3 years, if not much more. To conclude. Have friend buy the game(if on xbox, you can get an edition with rise of iron and EVERYTHING for 30 dollars, PS4 40$) There are still enough players around for you guys to do basically everything, though you may be matched up with some oddities(when I finished getting all the exotic swords on 360 last spring, I was matchmade with some south americans for the strike for the sword). Have fun sharing with him some of the things you enjoyed, and I would recommend seeking out other new players to teach them the raids etc as well. I highly recommend as well if you were a launch player, going over some of the history of Destiny. Talk about the old days of grinding day after day for a chance at gallahorn, or the rush to get mythoclast before the nerf. Mention how annoying it was to redeem your Exotic/Legendary engram for a Legendary/Rare weapon. Take him to the little statue/addition that bungie added to commemorate the loot cave. Hope this helps!

 • Great question. I envy your friend. I would love to be in a position to have just bought the Legacy Collection of D1 and be able to go all the way through to Rise of Iron for the first time.

 • There have been no announcements of an end of life for destiny 1. So you easily have more than a few months. There is also a fairly active, albeit smaller playerbase for the game.
