It’s time for games to throw out the idea of gear having power or item levels assigned to them. It’s old and tired. We don’t want power attached to armor, we want power attached to our character. Armor and weapons should have their perks but not contribute to your characters power. Why not have a much more extended skill tree and let us earn motes of light that we use to power our skills trees and unlock new bonuses to our characters abilities? Things like extra crit damage, faster movement, etc. At least this way we can continually feel more powerful and also not have to look like a homeless guardian every few months too.

  • Disagree. The system makes levelling up and powering up more understandable....and accessible to a wide variety of gamers. Which leads to bigger, healthier social games. The problem is that Bungie doesn't know what they're doing....and has implemented this system in a LAUGHABLY poor manner. Every other developer who has used a variant of this sytem, understands the lesson that Blizzard learned with Diablo 3: that RNG is a problem. That its not satisfying to the player, and is disrespectful of their time. So they build mechanisms into the game to minimize the role of RNG on progression and powering up. Whether its reforging...."optimization" (increasing stats on a gear piece") or limited crafting or trading. Depending on the depth of the loot system. Either way, the devs take steps to give players more control, so progression proceeds in lockstep with time investement. Bungie has done the exact opposite. IN order to camouflage a weak lootpool...and to exert RIGID control over how the player plays the game....they have embraced RNG. And infused it through EVERY part of the progression system in order to squeeze every last minute of possible play time out of the content. But without regard for whether players are ENJOYING that experience. Shit....getting a one power level bump to a MIlestone drop after clearing the Titan flashpoint was just an insult......and an even bigger insult was having THREE powerful drops come back at 351, 352 and 353. So that a 3 hour play session accomplishes absolutely NOTHING...except to waste a limited number of progression opportunities for the week. The system you're talking about works. But you have to understand the rules of RPGs, and properly manage its weaknesses..... ...and Bungie refuses to learn the former...and is doing the exact opposite of the latter.

  • I wish bungie could see this, but sadly they are to stuck on how they want to do things to realize this or any rational thinking to manage this game. Rng in this game sucks. The fact thst players are running the last wish daily or weekly and are up to 60, 70 times without a 1 thousand voices drop is terrible. The fact that players are STILL trying to get the osprey to drop which is a YR1 weapon, is so disgusting. I mean rng is needed but man, at least in diablo you know your gonna get something after grinding for it for a short time...

  • It think they're scared and desperate. ...and scared, desperate people with big egos....do REALLY stupid (and often unprincipled) things. Desperate to keep us grinding by any means necessary.
