Just a quick rant about how I've got a decent internet connection, but because the game is decided on P2P connections, it's making it impossible to play crucible.
My connection isn't half bad. 1.5MB/s down, 0.4Mbps up. It's a standard connection for most games and I don't get any issues with my connection whatsoever in them. Even games that require competition against other players are alright with my connection as I literally don't get any connection issues whatsoever.
But on Destiny 2 however, my connection just goes terrible. Every match I'm in is stuck at a 1 bar connection, so there's no good sign from that, right? I hop into the match to have a good time. I go for precision shots, shotgun at POINT BLANK RANGE towards people, but they don't take hits.
So I'm wondering. Why is Crucible still stuck on P2P connections, rather than dedicated servers? Since so much data is being sent between players, not many people can afford to send their data to all players at once without having to sacrifice on heavier latency.
The only thing I can suggest for Destiny 2 to add in, or even the next Destiny game, is to set dedicated servers for crucible. P2P connections are fine for only PvE content as there's not much of a reliable connection needed. But for the love of god, please set dedicated servers, because not everyone can afford access to fibre or get it within their area or even get it sorted out for that matter.
What makes matters worse for this issue was one of the TWAB announcements about how people will get Crucible banned for having bad connections. This solution doesn't fix everything as it's simply "Get a higher costing connection or don't play the game at all". This blunt and simple solution doesn't fix the game for everyone, it just leaves the ones with the bigger pockets to be able to play.

1 ReplyThat's real bad connection speed. I wouldn't bother with any online play without 5/5 at minimum

If they didn't implement dedicated servers before, why waste your time complaining about it now? They dont have the financial backing of activision. Dedicated servers arent exactly free.

This game would benefit from dedicated servers. But you need to start with upgrading your own speeds. My speeds are only 10-15 down but it’s just that little bump you need for a solid gameplay experience.
-
That bandwidth is pretty shit. 6v6 uses about 1.9Mbps down and up. Also, servers either for the whole game, or not at all.
-
Huh. So you're that guy who's running into the wall and suddenly teleports across the map.
-
I’m sorry, but that connection speed is garbage. You really need an upgrade

If you have Xfinity wifi look up a video on YouTube about "port forwarding" a friend of mine told me about it and it actually works pretty well, if you dont have Xfinity then i dont know what else to suggest. You should probably not go into crucible considering it might you get you banned for a good while.

That connection speed is buns son! You should look into upping that immediately, your experience would improve significantly, especially in PVP. If I saw you in a game warping around, I'd report you for bad connection 100%. A 1.5 upload is shitsauce not to mention that download speed, you must be on dial up.. That being said Dedicated Servers would be amazing!
My connection isn't half bad. 1.5MB/s down, 0.4Mbps up.
You’re correct. Your connection isn’t half bad, it’s completely bad. Destiny specifies a MINIMUM of 1 Mb upload + 1Mb download. Your upload is well below the minimum recommended. Other games likely don’t function on a p2p structure. Thus, those games you are only connected to 1 host/server/etc, whereas destiny connects you to the other 7-11 players in lobby (plus 1 virtual cloud host server).

Completely agree. I'm drawing a line in the sand. No Regional Dedicated Host Servers for all activities means I don't buy Destiny 3 and you don't get a dime form me going forward ever! Bungie is it's own shop now with no partners to get in the way. So they have ZERO EXCUSE not to have Dedicated Host Servers, except if management is to cheap or incompetent to do so.

Destiny's game engine won't allow that. Which is one of **many** reasons why people are hoping that a change to a different engine (that will allow the use of dedicated servers) will happen now that Bungie and Activision have split.

That's like old dial up internet (if that) where I live. Banning people for bad internet is sometimes needed because someone's bad internet can really hinder multiple people's online games at a time.
