Instead they took inexplicably idiotic and infuriating steps back and the community rightfully never forgave them.

yup they are a business that ONLY cares about making money and they looked at this game and clearly decided it was not going to make them a dime. They were placing resources at it and not having hope of a return so they bailed. I agree with you on that and we will see if the game is to sink or swim in the next six months give or take as this current roadmap comes to an end.

Most people actually don't understand what Activision did bring to the table as a publisher even if they aren't my favorite either. Activision is pretty good at knowing how to make money and if Activision walks away from a franchise like Destiny, it can very easily signal that they see the writing on the wall that consumers aren't capable of seeing yet. If Bungie has been excellent at one thing only, it's certainly been marketing. The tweet that everyone at Bungie studios applauded the Activision split is purely a marketing tactic. But I think they have exhausted that marketing prowess at this point and I don't see the bright future that some of the Bungie homers think is coming down the road. At best I think we get another annual pass this September that all but seals Destiny 2's fate given how well received this first one was, yet they won't even have the help of a studio like Vicarious Visions working on it with them. Bungie lost a lot of backing and I really don't think it was their decision to split. But like every person that has ever been dumped, it was obviously mutual.

Agreed. The thing about the annual pass that really puts the writing on the wall for me is that bungie was very coy in presenting it. They [i]knew[/i] what it was and how it would be perceived. In other words they knew they were delivering a rip off. That certainly does not make it likely that destiny is a big part of their future plans.

I'm not so sure that's how it went down because Activision is in a whole heap of legal trouble over Loot boxes in their cod games and are being investigated by the feds. that's why in any of the recent cods they are giving away all kinds of free shit that used to be in the loot boxes to make up for their greedy gambling tactics. a hopeful act since they already made billions off of suckers that actually spent money on loot boxes. I think bungie caught wind of this and bailed to distance themselves from the Activision shit show.

Activision owned the contract. It would certainly need their say so to end early. My assumption is if Activision thought they could continue to milk the Destiny player base, they never would have agreed to let Bungie have it. Activision is all about making money so they will jump ship whenever they feel the grab is over. I am not saying Activision isn't in their own trouble and stumbling down the hill, but this break certainly seems to have been initiated by Activision. There is no way Bungie thought trying to self publish in the middle of Destiny 2 was the best move. Everything they will lose as part of the split with a publisher as large as Activision is going to leave Bungie scrambling, no doubt. I hope Destiny 3 blows us away and we can point ours fingers and know for a fact that Activision was what tried to ruin Destiny one day. But if I was a betting man, I say we never see that day.
