Last One Out, Hit the Lights

It's been tough seeing the Community forum change from Bungie's biggest fans and ground-zero of culture to a depot for art-related Destiny content. But I'm not hear to piss and moan--change is inevitable. To believe the times before this were better is a fool's errand: every period of time has its ups and downs, we just remember the best of times and forget the worst of them. What I do want to leave with you is a simple message: cherish the moments you have with whatever state of life you find yourself in, because you won't get it back. Some users like to parade how long they've been here, others how big of an impact they've made. The one thing many fail to address is how other people have made an impact on this site and its users, people who have become lost in the corners of time as the site marches ever onward. These people were, and are, public servants who work in the dark without desire for recognition. Some have official titles, some are unnamed. You may have seen them as they rallied the community behind a single banner, may have heard of their game nights hosted, title bar threads, creative media posted, how-to's published, jokes shared, and ride-alongs ridden along. They are the essence of the community. Through them the Mythics were banned, the Flood was hated, the moms were dated, and the porches were...also dated. Their blood burns bright blue. While this thread---and ultimately the forum as a whole---will be forgotten, your contributions will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything you've done, and will continue to do. We wouldn't be the same without you. Last one out, hit the lights.

    • There were good times, there were bad times. But what we all have to remember is that if you have any questions or comments PM Duardo.

      • I did a double take when I saw the Community Forum would not be among the forum categories moving forward. I have a lot of fond memories of this place in its heyday. thousands of members of the seventh column would congregate to discuss Bungie lore, game nights, title bars, the latest goings on at the studio, events and conventions. It spanned and embraced every game Bungie has made. Though as I reminisce about the times I've shared with the community here, I remain puzzled. What happened? Where did everyone go? The once great Bungie Community forum is now a ghost town only occasionally frequented by fanfic writers and clan recruiters who got lost. The only way for me to find those community members I met all those years ago is through private groups that have likewise seen better days. If you told me in 2012 or 2011 that in a few years the once great Bungie community forum would be an empty husk about to be shut down, I would not have believed you. I'll get in touch with the leaders of the community at Bungie as a last-ditch effort to save this place, but I fear there aren’t enough people left to fight for it. While I remain hopeful that this place can regain its former glory, I'm concerned that without a central public hub to gather, the community will only become further disconnected.

RIP, old friend. I've been hoping that the Community Forum would eventually make a comeback ever since it lost its relevancy in January of 2013 after the universally-disliked 'bungie.next' update. This place used to be the backbone of the Seventh Column, and it still could be if it wasn't for the numerous updates to the b.net forums that tore our community apart. It's a shame. But, we definitely had some good times here. Cheers to the bungie.net community- new and old members alike.

          • Is this where the people that no longer play this game go to reminisce about something they should have left behind long ago, but can't for some reason that makes no sense to anyone else but them?

          • What stood out for me in TWAB was that they mentioned it's "swan song". Perhaps I misinterpreted, but the definition of said noun is "a person's last performance or professional activity before retirement". Foreshadowing, yes?

            • Very eloquently and thoughtfully written. A very nice read, and a wonderful statement.

            • Here's to the writers, for a time they were the only reason I came here, when I first showed up back in 2017 with D2 there were a dozen posts which were each part of different stories (I still plan to read their entireties), I saw a lot of them stop shortly thereafter and then saw the return of a handful, you guys inspired me to start my own writing, and remain the big reasons I come back. Thank you kseth, Texas Jedi, Overlord Titan, and the ones I didn't have the pleasure to read. Keep up the good work.
