Any counters against Luna/NF?
So, I'm basically a pvp player since D1, and I've played since thorn was recking, clever dragon destroying people, the mini starwars part that took place not long ago and now these two hand cannons.
The most boring for me in crucible is that finding myself playing with the same weapons ALL THE TIME. I love variation, especially adapting weapons to maps and so on. BUT these two hand cannons are insane. All duels in 1v1 I lose against average players using these handcannons EXCEPT if I have my killclip activated on my bygones, or when my jade outranges these people for an example.
But thanks to bungie, we have 6v6 pressed into 4v4 maps that I land on many times. No matter how much I try its so hard trying to outrange these cannons. I'm probably gonna get the gun myself but I know I won't play with it much, the same way I dont play with shotguns(except chap, takes a bit more skill using). It feels too easy, too boring...
So I am asking you, the community! What do you think counter these handcannons in pvp?

Trust with max range more than nf has and explosive rounds flinch the head shots so you don’t get 3 tap

It's definitely a good idea to outrange them. Luna's Howl in particular has a really low range stat, so it's hard to land shots at longer distances. I've also heard Polaris Lance can absolutely shit on people if you land your shots.

2 Replieshigh range/explosive rounds trust is very good for flinching magnificent howl hc users, plus trust has much more range. ace of spades also has the best range of any hand cannon plus memento mori. they are effectively better in the right hands in my opinion, but lunas and NF are just easier to use so they are the popular choice. it may take some practice in learning them but ace of spades and trust are equal if not better than lunas howl and nf.

1 ReplyColdheart should destroy it if you can hit most of your crits. I 1v1'd a guy spamming Luna's Howl after a quickplay match and he told me I couldn't use it because it was broken.

The #1 way to counter them... Strafe. Hard. The better your strafe the less you get 3 tapped, Lunas is worse than trust in almost every way when you don't 3 tap. Second tip... Play your ranges, just because bygones can challenge other weapons at closer ranges, doesnt mean it can challenge luna (without a good strafe) Lunas has a limited effective range, and when nearing the edge of its range, fighting flinch and a strafe it is difficult to activate magnificent howl. So, Here are viable counters: -trust with a good strafe, >25m range if possible -bygones at 25+ m with a good strafe -an SMG or sidearm in cqc IF the Luna user is sniping -a shotgun or fusion in cqc otherwise. Bygones+telesto is arguably one of the best luna counters. Between 10m and 25m the telesto can work over luna, outside of 25m the bygones can work over luna. So as long as you dont get caught at less than 25m with bygones out, and avoid engagements less than 10m... you are good.

10 RepliesYou seem contradictory. You don't use shotguns cause you say they feel too easy, but they aren't easy to use against Luna users. You seem like you won't use the counters because you think they feel too easy and then ask for counters cause the game feels too hard for you playing against them.

Edited by DiZ: 12/14/2018 11:57:25 AMThere are really only three counters: - Outrange with longer range weapons(Pulses, Scouts, Snipers, and high range Hand Cannons like Ace or most Aggressives) - Override their TTK with Heavy or Special weapons - "Outskill" them by making them miss their shots through strafing well enough(which most can't do due to either lack of ability or low Mobility) But honestly, these are just general tips against any weapon in the game really. As long as you can make them miss the two headshots for Magnificent Howl, there's nothing special about the guns. A high range Trust with Explosive Rounds, or even Malfeasance(if they spam bodyshots from far away enough) would be harder to fight against in most situations than Luna or NF if they can't hit back-to-back headshots.

A sniper rifle shot to the head, or a kill clip sniper rifle shot to the body (tatara gaze), a pulse at range, Telesto, cold heart prom lens. All of these have worked pretty well against them. Whats scary is when you come up against players who really earnt the gun. Cos they know the counters and play around them.

1 ReplyPeople are gonna say they require skill, but when the majority spam shots and always miraculously land headshots when getting flinched I'm not buying it. These same people can't snipe worth a damn so don't come in here blowing smoke up everyone's ass like people running lunas are beast mode incarnate. Majority are average with a one track that does not allow them to switch from shotgun luna wardcliff hunter.
