Does transferring max power gear to second/third character increase powerful gear?

Just as the title states. For example my titan is my highest leveled character and surpasses my warlock and hunter by a long shot. I know in the past people were saying that only weapons count towards your powerful gear drops on different characters. So does that mean if I transfer my highest titan leveled armor to my hunter it won't affect his power level armor drops? Others say it's account wide and that the game calculates your highest possible light level. Some say throw the gear in your vault. I read up some of this on Reddit but there were a lot of mixed responses. Some are saying: -Yes -No -Yes and across account -Yes but weapons across account only. So I have yet to determine the correct answer. I would like some clarification on this so I don't go moving things between characters and it being pointless.

As posted further down; you do not have to have the weapons on the character you are currently levelling. As others have said, there is now an automatic calculation of the highest level you could be, from the highest level weapons combination you could equip from your whole account. Even if those weapons are currently in another character's inventory or the Vault. Combined with the highest level armour combination whether on the character, another character or the Vault BUT only armour matching that type (hunter, titan or warlock). The automatic calculation is even intelligent enough to know that you cannot equip more than exotic weapon or armour at a time. So to level up faster, make sure when infusing that your highest level weapon or armour for every slot is not an exotic, otherwise the other exotics will be ignored and the highest level legendary for that slot will be taken into account instead. In D1 you had to remember to have the weapon equipped, not just in that character's inventory. But it hasn't been like that in D2 for some time now. If you want to prove it to yourself, make a character as low level as possible (like the 300's) by equipping old low level weapons and armour from your Vault and then hand in a milestone. You will still get items at the level as though you had the highest possible combinations in your slots. Edit - Managed to find the evidence in the end, all the way back from Destiny 2 launch, quote from --------------------------- What gear do you use to determine a players best equipment? Daniel: When we say "best possible gear," we look at what the best scenario is for your character across your account. This means that, if you are playing on your Hunter (like you should), we might use the Helmet you accidentally left in the vault, the Boots you just picked up but haven't equipped, and the Auto Rifle that you forgot to transfer from your Warlock. Gear on other characters, in the vault, in your inventory, or currently equipped are all compared to find the best loadout you could have. -----------------------------

  • Only weapons count and they only need to be in the vault, if I get a higher light weapon it goes straight to the vault (unless it’s good then I use it) I’ll clean out my vault later or when I run out of space

  • Always (and I mean always) transfer your highest power weapons from one guardian to the next before completing milestones for powerful rewards while you are leveling up your power. The overall power level boost you get from having those higher level weapons will translate into higher power level drops. You don't even have to have those weapons equipped, just have them in your guardian's on-person inventory. Regarding armor, not much you can do there - you cannot equip armor from another class.

    • You don’t have to move anything. The system scans your best stuff even if it in in your postmaster. Unless it is an exotic engrams or a prime engram.

Only weapons, as they are the only thing the alternate characters can actually use. It does calculate highest possible light based off what you can equip that’s in your inventory. Titan armor cannot be equipped by a hunter there for that doesn’t get factored into your highest possible light level as it’s not possible for you to equip it. Make sense? Basically transfer over your highest weapons don’t worry about your armor. It’s not based off highest weapons across account they need to be in your inventory at least. Edit: I guess from others reports it is across account for weapons? I have always transferred so I cannot confirm. Play it safe though and transfer it takes two seconds

      • Damn, Most people replying didn’t understand what OP means, I think. He is saying: A) He knows characters can’t wear armor that isn’t their class. Exp: a Warlock can’t wear Titan gloves. B) He knows you can swap weapons freely OP is trying in say he has a conspiracy theory that if your Warlock is carrying Titan Armor (not equipped) will it fool the “smart loot” system into giving you higher drops. It’s a cool theory - I don’t know if it will work. Hopefully someone will give it a shot.

Yes. Do your milestones, then switch to another character. Your weapons are usable on any character and are factored into your light level, so will result in higher light drops on the second and third character. You don’t even have to transfer gear, so long as it’s usable, like weapons are. Armor of higher light on one character, will have no effect on drops of another class.

      • My warlock had not done Forsaken, so was still in the upper 300s in terms of power. I had a few pieces of lower level gear in the vault and transferred it, even before the character was high enough level to use it. So I dropped some 600 level weapons from my Titan. It definitely affected drops, and prompted me to grind out to level 50, at which point I could use those weapons and breeze through the lower level content. Maxing out my level somewhere in the 570s while I hunt for armor.

      • Only weapons assist in raising light - unless something has changed

      • No. Transferring gear doesn't change anything. Destiny 2 has something called smart loot (or whatever they named it) - it will calculate the highest power possible you can be on your character when loot drops (taking your other toons weapons + anything in the vault into account).

      • Yeah, just move your weapons over. My titan is like 623, moved my guns over to my warlock who is now 629 i think.... with a couple of power drops still to get. Havent touched my hunter yet.
