Black Armory - Personal Opinion

I don't really have a solid opinion yet. It's only been a couple of days and the Annual Pass is a drip feed of content spread out over 9 months. Analogically, I don't know what to think of an entire movie after I've only seen the first 5 minutes, and I don't know what to think of a book, as a whole, after reading the first chapter. I don't know what to think of the AP yet, and I don't know how anyone else knows what to think about the AP as a whole either. I haven't tried the forge because I need to level a little bit first, and apparently I am not utterly outraged by this. What's wrong with me? EDIT: I have tried the forge a few times, failed (but came close a couple times), and I understand I will have to grind for LL a little more before I go back. It's decent. As for the Light grind, no big deal. Initial Thoughts and Recommendations: Get it, if you plan on playing Destiny for the next year, and if you're fine with continuing to do your daily and weekly challenges for powerful gear to see what you get as you level up, which is the whole concept of the game. Get it if you are in the upper 500s in terms of light/power level (i.e., maybe 580+). Also, it's all you're going to get, in terms of new content beyond Forsaken, so you don't have much of a choice. Don't get it, if you don't like playing the game, or if you don't like regularly doing the milestones to increase your power/light, along with whatever other activities come along with the Pass. Don't get it if you want to immediately be able to access everything at once. That's not how this works. You'll need to be a certain light/power level to do things, like how most previous DLCs have operated. Don't get it if you're nowhere near 600. If you're not anywhere near 600 though, you probably haven't done everything in Forsaken, or don't have the time to have done everything, so you probably don't need the Annual Pass since you still have plenty to do, or can't play as much as you would like. If you're still busy with Forsaken, or aren't max light or close in Forsaken, you probably don't need this yet.

 •
I don't know what to think of an entire movie after I've only seen the first 5 minutes
True, but people can certainly form an opinion of the opening scene after the first five minutes. Which is what we are seeing here. I'm not one of the people who are mad about Black Armory and the need to grind power levels for a few weeks before completing the forge becomes feasible. But I am one of the people who became alienated by that fact. I haven't played a whole lot of Destiny the past month or so as most of my time has been going in to RDR2 and BFV. The same goes for the majority of my clan. So I logged in on Tuesday, thinking I'd check out the forge and see how the new activity is. Full disclosure, I've been 600 for quite some time. After failing abysmally a few times with randoms (since most of my clan are still playing RDR2 or Fallout '76), I realized I should probably raise my power level to the recommended 610 before trying it again. Doing some quick math, it dawned on me that I'd need at least 45 powerful drops just to reach 610 assuming perfect distribution of those drops, and likely much more than that. The thought of dedicating most of my gaming time for several weeks to the Destiny power level grind was actually disheartening. I'm not even done with the RDR2 campaign, which is getting really good. BFV's live service just kicked off with a bunch of assignments and rewards. Plus, I still have several games that I haven't even started yet. I realized I just wasn't all that interested in diving back in to the same old grind again. I get what Bungie are trying to do here. They are providing more content for the people who were going to keep grinding out their weekly milestones anyway. The people who play only, or even just mostly, Destiny. That's totally cool. But based on my experience this strategy won't do much to bring back anyone who lapsed recently and were bored of the Forsaken grind. Had I been able to start making some progress on the new content right away, I might have been tempted to put more time in. But the fact that I can't even do any of Ada-1's bounties until completing a forge for the first time led to me just signing out of D2 and putting RDR2 back in my console.
