It got crazy at the end! Everyone was freaking out and Gabby and I were just bashing our heads against that damn door screaming, "WHY ISNT THIS WORKING! WHY ARE WE SO BAD!?" Then friggin Stubbles walks up, rolls a 19, snaps his fingers, points at a gear and says "Ah, see theres yer problem." And just smiles at us.

I love it when the dice turn against you right when you need everything to go well. I am going to roll to open this lock as a 10 century old master thief. Natty 1..... Suddenly, a cake pops out of the lock. You have fulfilled your life long dream of becoming a baker.....
-
My rolls always seem to be either really high or really low I especially love when I roll a critical and then get all ones!
-
Honestly, I think a critical ought to be instant max damage, automatic death instant completion of your move, no further roll needed. A crit means you pulled off your maneuver perfectly and excuse me, but if you say, "I am going to swing my sword and decapitate Trug the bugbear" rolls natty 20+ additional modifiers, dead. That bugbuear is not going to keep attacking headless, lol
-
So I just learned we weren't actually supposed to succeed at opening that door. The GM made it doable but only if the person with the right modifiers rolled really high...and Stubbles had the right modifiers and rolled really high, lol. We were apparently supposed to give up and make our way deeper to find the key. He had this whole massive underground city planned with some neat secrets, a hidden society of dwarves, apparently Drow were creeping around somewhere...dude was planning on us being underground for a few more sessions and we just skipped a whole stage! Oops!
-
Ouch!! Then why didn't he have the goblins back off so you would not need to get the door open? I would have dragon start doing fire strafing runs to push you back in, lol.
-
He likes to keep things sort of "Open World" Also he apparently kept rolling to see if the goblins would retreat after certain casualty thresholds and they kept succeeding. They must have been REALLY hungry!
-
That reminds me of Goblinslayer, love that anime! I can't blame him there, I just remember the pain of having your crew take a left at Albuquerque when it was supposed to be a right and now all of your hard work is going in the trash, lol.
-
He says it was only the "tutorial zone" anyway. Now that we're out in the real world he gets to play with his little "Faction System" he made that apparently has stuff happen in the background while we're adventuring.
-
Well that is cool! At least I hope it is.....*ominous music plays in the background whilst lightning strikes and thunder rolls......*
