Since the 2.1.0 patch, I have noticed that the Chromatic Fire warlock exotic perk which is meant to create a firefly like effect on kinetic precision kills has been nerfed.
Prior to the patch, the perk would create two explosions back-to-back. These would be capable of killing weaker red bar enemies so long as they were close enough.
Following the patch, the firefly effect now only creates a single elemental explosion which barely does 50% damage to a red bar enemy. Tested this in numerous situations and the results are clear.
Additionally this was not documented in the patch notes, and now the exotic feels significantly weaker. It now hardly tickles red bar enemies, so the exotic perk is now very underwhelming as a result.
So what's the story here? Was this an unintentional nerf to what was already a fairly mediocre Forsaken exotic? Or was this an intentional but undocumented change? Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

27 RepliesHey all, There was a slight miscommunication on our end. Here's what's going on: There was an issue where Chromatic Fire would proc twice when defeating enemies with headshots. This could lead to some nasty bugs, so it needed to be addressed. Alongside this fix, there was a planned change to increase the damage to keep functionality in line. It looks like the fix for the perk shipped in Update 2.1.0, but the damage increase will go live next week with Update 2.1.1. Apologies for the missed patch note. We'll update what we have live now.

Chromatic Fire is about as underwhelming as the original Graviton Lance

Edited by phonejackson: 11/30/2018 8:54:04 AMJust got this chest piece yesterday. I love it and am excited to see it next week! Oh and it's my first forsaken exotic! It dropped in gambit.

9 RepliesI haven't used that exotic because to me it is pretty useless and I rather use much better exotics. Plus if you like to run something like Ace of Spades that creates a Solar FireFly effect, what is the point? Making two explosions sounds more like a bug and they fixed it. I don't know how you can use that over the way better exotics the Warlock has.

2 RepliesIt only activated one explosion originally unless you were using AOS.

8 RepliesIm glad it was nerfed, it was ridiculous in PVP

1 ReplyI actually felt it was underwhelming for PvE before, so now they effectively reduced it to a storage space item only. It was good against small ads, but not very useful against bosses. I actually thought it needed a buff.

1 ReplyIf this is true, that’s incredibly upsetting. The vest was fine, and there were already so many other warlock exotics that using it meant you were making a sacrifice. It was a really fun neutral game. What a shame to nerf something literally no one asked to get nerfed.

I'm glad there was a post about this because I wondered the same thing. I'm glad there's some clarification. I had loads of fun with the 2 and 3 explosions. Great for pve content!

I just got this exotic yesterday, used it for a half hour or so, and quickly realized that the firefly perk is absolutely useless. It barely appears, and does almost nothing to anything around the target. Infusion fuel.

We need CoolGuy, the foremost proponent of this exotic, to investigate!

There is a tiny possibility this was the result of the new Mod releasing in Black Armory that enhances Firefly...this is unfortunate if this seems to be the case....maybe you will be able to regain this ability when you apply the enhanced dragon fly mod to a weapon and equip the chromatic vest...maybe... :) GOD SPEED

that exotic is real? I've only seen it in my dreams.

Why would they nerf it? It was fine before.

1 ReplyEdited by GouldBerg988: 11/28/2018 2:55:48 PMWhat really happened.... [@ Bungie HQ] Dev1: think of an Exotic between K and Z! Dev2: Kromatic Fire! Dev1: OK, nerfed

It's bollocks. Why would they even nerf it?

6 RepliesEdited by VisceralWharf33: 11/28/2018 2:01:53 PMYou beat me to it! I was about to post exactly the same thing. I did already post something in the help section, but no reply yet, I think it's been lost in the mix of all the other issues. But yes, completely agree. I've tested it thoroughly too and agree with your findings. Just a single, weak explosion now (or 2 with Ace of spades). The only thing that made this exotic feel special was the x2 explosions with normal kinetics or x3 explosions with the Ace of spades. It's the only thing that made it viable in PVE and even PVP. It certainly was not overpowered by any means, just viable. Now it just feels very weak and a waste of an exotic. One dragonfly explosion isn't even guaranteed good trash mob clearance! I hope this is a bug, and Bungie will change it back to how it was pre update 2.1.0. There has never been any reference to it being broken, needing a change or needing to be "fixed". If it was deliberate, then I think Bungie should make reference to it so everyone knows what's going on with it. Or if they want to keep it at 1 explosion, it should be much more powerful than a normal dragonfly explosion to compensate (and you know...to look cool again!). * A disappointed warlock :-( *

Yes, i have been using it for the past 3 days (Finally dropped 3 days ago :P) and it came to my attention that this issue actually was there before the update yesterday.
