A Giant and His Echo: Chapter 1

Previous Chapter In an abandoned Skyscraper in the streets of Old Chicago, two weeks after the events of Forsaken: Giant surveyed the scene below his perch on a rusted metal rafter. It was Keksis, one of the Dusk’s Archons, and Giant’s nemesis from a while back. Surrounding him were gang of Dregs, Wretches, vandals and other Fallen. Keksis seemed to be concentrated on the image displayed in the hologram in front of him. Giant couldn’t make it out, but it seemed to be some sort of schematics. He had to get closer, but if he did, his cover would be blown. “Well,” He said with a chuckle, “I am a Titan after all. Echo?” “Yes, sir?” “Let’s have a little music for the moment, shall we?” “Of course.” Echo replied, “how about this?” A song title reading“Megalovania” appeared in Giant’s HUD. “You know what I like.” Giant said with a grin plastered on his metal face. Giant stood up, and then deftly leaped down in the middle of the horde of Fallen. They didn’t see him immediately, then he spoke. “Hello there!” Keksis turned around, two of his four arms folded behind his back. “The Titan called Giant!” He chuckled, “you are certainly a bold one.” Giant shrugged, then he leaned to the side to get a better look at the schematics. “Watcha got there, Keksis?” He asked, curiously. Keksis chuckled. “None of your concern, fool. The real question is, how are you gonna live to find out?” He turned to his two Wretch bodyguards. “Crush him! Make him suffer!” He boomed, as he took the schematics and transmatted away. As the Armed their weapons, Giant smiled. “Hit it, Echo.” Echo played the music track as Giant drawled his handcannons. “Let the fun begin.” The Fallen shrieked in a terrifying battle cry, and the battle commenced. Shot after shot Giant fired into the horde, the firefly rounds exploding and tearing holes into the horde. As the Fallen reached point blank range, Giant pulled out his shotgun and leaped into the air, taking out dregs and vandals as he ascended. The Fallen just kept coming. He reached into the light and drew his unbreakable Banner Shield, and threw Shield after shield into the throng, decimating dozens of Fallen. As he landed, a Wretch tried his luck against the Titan in Close quarters combat. His arc spear’s damage was absorbed by his shield, and Giant punched him in the chest. “You da bomb!” He laughed, kicking him into the legion of Fallen. He sent one round into the doomed wretch’s body, and it erupted in a void explosion, tearing through the steadily dwindling numbers of Fallen. His shield running low, Giant popped a barricade as he took a breath. “Now that’s a lot a damage!” He said, wiping some ash off his shoulder. “I think it’s time we introduce them to some REAL damage!” He pulled out his Heavy machine gun, and went to town on the Fallen. Round after round was shot into the horde, chaining arc damage to the unfortunate Fallen foolish enough to cluster together. A few moments later, most of the Fallen were gone, with the remaking troops wisely Transmatting away. “It’s always a pleasure to watch you work, sir.” Echo beamed, as he healed Giant to his full health. “Its a pleasure doing the work.” Giant replied, walking up to the table that the Hologram once rested on. “Blast!” He said, banging his fists on the table. “Keksis got away. Again!” “Look on the bright side, sir. He left some loot behind.” Giant opened up the three chests left by the Archon. “Ugh. It’s just a Prospecter and-Edge Transit?! Really?” Giant searched the third chest. “Hmm. What’s this?” He held up a card. “An Ace of Spades. What is it doing in here? Wait, there’s a message on the back. Coordinates. Echo, can you make this out?” “Certainly. It points to a Lost sector deep in the plaguelands. Echo replied. “Plaguelands? Wait, there hasn’t been any patrols there since the SIVA crisis, right before the Red War.” “Sounds like a mystery to me,” Giant shrugged. “C’mon let’s go.” As they headed for Giant’s ship, The Shielding Eagle, Echo’s comm beeped in a series of notes and pauses. “That must be Ringer,” Giant guessed, “that’s his comm signal.” “It appears to be a...distress signal. ” Echo said, “From the cosmodrome in old Russia. We should check it out.” “Nah, he’s fine,” said Giant, as he revved up the engines, “but I shall go all the same. It’s on the way.” They blasted off into the clouds, on their way to see what Ringer-7 and gotten himself into. ——————————————— As you can probably tell, I’m a bit of a Star Wars fan, so you should see a few references and jokes in these stories.
