Does anyone else feel cheated?

Before I start off I'm going to clear a couple of things: 1. I understand this is a looter shooter 2. I understand what RNG is and how it works 3. No I'm not asking to get a handout WALL OF TEXT INBOUND The best way I can describe my forsaken experience is that it looked good on paper and sounded great from the devs, but has fallen way to short of what it was supposed to be. I paid $40 for the dlc. Truth be told I mainly bought it for two reasons, one was that I could finally kill uldrich, and two was for the new weapons both legendary and exotic. So I paid $40 for the dlc and ALL of what is included in the dlc. But out of all the Gambit matches, all the strikes, all the engrams, and all the bounties I have only received 1/5 of the things that are new. I stopped chasing exotics during the last meatball week after I took a vacation day from work and grinded my heart out. slogging through ranks, toxic matches and frustratingly enough the lackluster rewards. And that's the thing...I play video games for fun because I work 40 hours a week busting my ass at the railroad, and i hate to say this but destiny feels like it's becoming a second job. RNG is a very cheap way to distribute rewards. All it really does is inflate play time for players and for bungie/Activision to show their investors "look at how much time players are spending a day playing our game". If you remember the battlefront 2 PR disaster with " a sense of pride and accomplishment" then you can see my point of how frustrating it is to stop playing a game you enjoy , all because the game has no incitive. I Know exactly what I'm going to get from every engram and reward bases upon my time wasted try to get things I don't have. And that's actually pretty sad to say that seeing is destiny is a loot based shooter. Prime engram rewards consist of : prodigal armor, tangled web, scatter horn, edge transit, arsenic bow, ten paces, and vestian dynasty. Vanguard level rewards consist of: boots, gauntlets, nameless midnight, and cheat peice. Gambit rewards consist of: bygones, bad omens, trust, distant retaliation, arms, legs, cloak, trust, and pilliger. Crucible rewards consist of: better devil's, cloak, boots, and helmet. Legendary engram drops from enemies mainly consist of: tangled web armor, cut and run, edge transit, go figure, ten paces, and prodigal armor. That's the stuff I know I'm going to get before I ever turn in a quest, bounty, level up, or turn in a engram. It honestly feels like I paid full price for 1/5 of the content. Here's what I actually want: Hazard of the cast Cerberus+1 Ether doctor Tiger spite From the throttled xp to the small loot pools for rewards I have learned from bungie themselves to never expect to get what you pay for. I want the game to get better but It's awful to go on the forums and see the negativity and frustration over something that's supposed to be fun and enjoyable. What they need to do is stop trying to add new shit in the hopes that people will forget about the problems at hand. Instead of pushing quantity, push quality. " A rushed game will forever be bad."

  • I agree with a lot of what you wrote, and my experience has mirrored yours in most ways it seems. The last 10 or so prime engrams I've gotten have been nothing but Tangled Web armor. I've played Forsaken a LOT since its release and have exactly ONE exotic drop (not Forsaken exotic, but exotic period). I'm Mythic III in Gambit and have zero Bygones or Trust drops (I did purchase the Bygones from Drifter). I've played a ton in the Tangled Shore but still haven't received the sniper or rocket launcher. Very frustrating.

  • I've always maintained that rng is a blatantly lazy excuse for a "reward" system. When I can get an exotic off of a roaming wanted enemy and someone who has done the raid all the way through multiple times, nightfall multiple times, all without a single exotic, there's an issue there. Effort and victories in no way properly translates to reasonable rewards. It just does not in any way make logical sense to implement total randomness to a game like this. Refusing to apply loot tables or set chances allows players the chance to literally NEVER get a new exotic. And yeah, this was a 40 dollar expansion, a paid product. Items shouldn't be handed out, but you should be guaranteed that your work and time will be properly rewarded. Coughing up that much for content you might actually never get is basically a rip-off and borderline untaxed gambling, throwing money at something in the hope that you get something better out of it. You don't buy a game for the hope that you MIGHT get an item in it, you buy a game so that you can eventually acauire that item, where "eventually" doesn't mean "anywhere between now and three years from now". RNG is a nonsense, lazy system and it always will be. Games like Monster Hunter rely on grinding, but there's still reasonable loot tables to make it less bullshit. Bungie has chosen instead to go the lazy path and just make things harder to get by making it possible from anything with a completely indeterminate chance. That is not reasonable.

  • RNG wouldn't feel so bad if activities actually had exclusive loot to them. We need: - Strike exclusive loot(Not Nightfall) - Factions(That's an entire giant loot pool just GONE!) - Planetary exclusive loot(something the planet vendors should have to make them actually worth visiting) - New Year 2 armor and weapons for planetary vendors - Tower vendors selling weapons and armors regularly with a roll refresh every weekly reset. - More Year 1 weapons brought up to Year 2(There aren't a lot of weapons in Year 2 if you do some digging) - More Year 2 weapons being brought into the random drop pool in the game so that Go Figures aren't all we're getting. I'm sure there's more, but these are what I can think of. Year 2 is supposed to be grand, but there's very little loot to chase that is of the current year. Year 1 weapons are still viable, but I'd like a lot more foundry weapons being brought to Year 2 for random rolls.

    • I quit D2 after warmind. I just decided that's it no more money from me. I know many people say hey woah Forsaken is the TTK of D2 that it's so much better etc.. Perusing the Forums I see that as usual with the improvements comes a whole host of new problems. Not only that D2 is nearing the end Bungie will abandon it like they did going from D1-D2. Then from the pattern so far D3 will remove anything players liked from Forsaken after and start all over again. They'll spend a year promising to bring things back and make improvements but that'll be for a price of course. Maybe and that's a big maybe I'd pick up Forsaken from the bargain bin but I doubt it. To those of you who have stayed with it or genuinely enjoy it good for you. I hope they only continue to make improvements and you enjoy it.

      • I’ve always said the biggest problem this game faces is a lack of loot. Which is surprising from a company as big as Bungie who could certainly afford to pay more designers given the billions of dollars they’ve made off of Destiny. But they have always felt like a cheap, lazy company so I don’t expect anything to change. They will recycle as much content as they can and just fall back on marketing hype like they always do.

Instead of pushing quantity, push quality.
You mean like how IB is laking hardcore versus D1 IB in every aspect of it right now? Once you do the bounties guess what? You're done, nothing else to grind for especially since it's the same gear as last IB that is a hand out now. This is pure laziness no matter what anyone says that this kind of development is what is killing the incentive the game that D1 used to have.

        • Cheated? Not sure, but I have stopped playing. Signed in today, went to tower, turned some stuff in, and immediately signed off cause I just wasn't into it anymore. I had some fun with D2, but forsaken actually turned me off. There just not enough loot, too much repetition, too much grind. Without new things to use, it's not fun. I agree it's not about being given anything, something ina video game that has no value is not a handout. It did keep things interesting though.

I absolutely feel what you’re trying to say here, how ever, I dont feel cheated but I do feel there def need to be more definitive and beam directed paths towards what you can acquire rather than an on going continues cheap rng and that doesnt mean I want rng drops to be gone but I wish for a better middle ground And I absolutely agree wit BUNGIE WILL DO WHAT EVER TO KEEP THE CLOCKED IN HOURS RUNNING ON THEIR SERVERS...

              • Lastly I think about get back to D1, because D2 is so annoying for me after Forsaken. I constantly get the same stuf and on low level up grade. All my stuff from before Forsaken became unusefull cose they don't have any special perks. And to be honest after TTK D1 was one of the best shooting games ever, which D2 is not now.

                  • I thought this was the worst expansion yet. Not really feeling like it's worth the time to spell it all out. I planned on cutting off Bungle after this expansion. I thought it would be the best they could come up with since they had to sell it. It's garbage as usual. I have to force myself if I play it...and this Iron Lagger...-blam!-ing unbelievable they continue making pvp ever more brainless..bad..spammy and laggy.
That is called the "Bungie Marketing Strategy" and they did the same thing for the first year of D2. People should have known better than to trust Bungie after what happened over the course of last year. The warning signs were there all year. Dawning? XP-gate and subsequent lies/omissions? The beginnings of the current progression throttling? It was all there to see, yet people bought into the "Forsaken hype" by Bungie and their complicit 'content creators' and are now somehow surprised and angry about progression, loot, infusion, and economy. Bungie has your money now, they could care less about "fixing" anything in a timely manner (or at all).

                    • yeah i do feel cheated its still a boring mess. powerfull gear and prime engrams that drop at your power lvl or just one lvl above it. a infusion system thats just annoying thanks to the lack of masterwork cores which makes you constantly use weapons i dont want to use. a in my opinion a boring story with a shitty ending. the raid altough i only played until the oger is awesome but thats the only thing i liked. the excotic drop rate is good i didnt like the handout everyone gets one excotic drop rate from before this is better i only received 1 forsaken excotic. i bought the add on because i promised my clan i would do so most stupid promise ever. half if them started raiding with other clans leaving half of us hanging. so i wont ever promise to buy a dlc again and will just play ac oddyssey, rdr2 and any other game

                    • Yeah I do. There’s really not much loot and a lot of weapons seem to have a small pool of perks. Compare this to the taken king and this has like half the gear. The problem I’m guessing is the made 2 areas, the tangled shore and the dreaming city. I imagine that took a lot of man power. Then again, it shouldn’t take that much work to design a gun and throw it into the loot pool.

                    • No. I don't feel cheated. Part of the way this game's loot system has worked is to provide lots of loot, and to encourage players to use it... and not just gold loot, but also the blue and purple. I've received a large amount of loot, and tried it out in various ways. Some of it has been bad, and has been summarily deleted or infused. Some of it is decent, and is used. But, very little of that loot so far has been exotic. And that's fine. The new gameplay mechanics have given my plenty to do anyway.

Well, if you want Tigerspite, that generally only drops in the Dreaming City, usually either as bounty or quest rewards, or from chests. I've gotten six that way. I've gotten several Ether Doctors with crap rolls. That's RNG. You are seeming to forget the Go Figure, Right Side of Wrong, Misfit, the Duke, all the Dreaming City weapons like Sleepless and Nation of Beasts. I could name another dozen guns that you didn't mention. So that's RNG. This game has always handed out sets of armor for particular rewards, connected either to a planet or the faction in question. Has since the beginning. I've gotten one Forsaken exotic weapon in Lord of Wolves. A few Forsaken exotic armors on my warlock. There's not a small loot pool. You're either cherry picking from confirmation bias-I've gotten a metric ton of Misfits so it would be easy to think there's a small loot pool-or your RNG is bad.
