MoT is a celebration for the activities for the past year not what can be done in less than a month.
It is not Bungie's fault that you have only just started to play, back after a long break or just could not be bothered to get the verses.
That step has been available for OVER 8 months so why complain now you need to rush it. In fact if you followed the goings on in Destiny 2 then you would have known a month before MoT that collecting all the verses was a step.

I’m not complaining ;) I know I had enough time. I’m just asking, but I would definitely understand why this should stay the way it is, especially for those who really had the patience to complete all quests over the course of several weeks
