As we approach D2’s release of Forsaken,it becoming more evident that there is an Ahamkara.
For those who don’t know Byf has released a video discussing this topic and the most recent reliable leak. He mentions or rather hypothesis that the worms and Ahamkaras are one and the same but the worms are just simply corrupt and altered by the darkness.

Although this is all speculation (the worm gods and Ahamkara) what is the true nature of Ahamkaras if they are simply uncorrupted worm gods?
What does this mean about the destiny lore as a whole?
[Peoples Thoughts]
While there might be a relationship between the Worms and Ahamkaras, the description of the Ahamkaras (while they do share some key characteristics) is no where near what Xol looked like (exoskeleton, wings, eyes, jaws).
Some say it maybe a whole new species that evolved with the Awoken.

<The Ahamkara and Worms shouldn't have any relation at all. It's one of the biggest things I disagreed with Byf... and pretty much 75% of the lore community about. Thanks to Xol, what each species are made of, growth and maturation, etc. We have confirmation they aren't one and the same. Right now the only two pieces of evidence that suggest a link is the phrasing and wings. But let nobody forget that Calus and other beings used Ahamkara phrasing as well. And wings... worms are made of chitin. Look up other bugs with wings of chitin. The only pieces left to the puzzle now are seeing an Ahamkara and viewing Yul. But I'm confident.>
