Theres cultural references all over the place..
Osiris is an Egyptian god.
Saladin (although the spelling is a bit off) was a muslim leader in the crusades.
Half the vex race is named after greek mythology creatures (hydra, harpy, cyclops)..

The subcomments on this comment are a great read. Well done guys

I’ve already done posts based on Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek culture. (The culture tag will bring those up if you’re interested and haven’t read them yet.
-
I'll try and add any if I can.. guess my "useless" history obsession does have some value.
-
There’s probably stuff to add to the Egyptian culture post. I didn’t go to far in depth with that one as I did with the others in terms of references and the spectrum in which I looked at.

Edited by HuSeYiN_NYC: 8/15/2018 1:52:42 PMI like the fact you know about Salahuddin Al Ayyubi. As a Muslim, i respect that. He was a fine man. Not a Prophet, just a really good man... https://youtu.be/Pi2JuunStdc

Not gonna lie I realised that Saladin and Hawthorne have middle eastern origins whilst writing up the draft for OP. They’re gonna be included in my middle eastern culture post.
-
Nice... Idk about Hawthorne but Salahuddin is a great history lesson... https://youtu.be/Pi2JuunStdc
-
Suraya, Hawthorne’s first name is a variant of a name that’s given to the Middle Eastern equivalent of the Pleiades constellation. Turns out Timur was a powerful ruler in the Muslim world as well.
-
Pleiadis is also the name of the FWC scout.. Seems like everything in the game has a real world connection in some way.
-
Yep. That’s found in the Greek post. It’s a constellation in which the brightest stars are named after the seven sisters of Greek mythology.
-
Thanks for that... i will have to do research myself... thanks
-
Although looking back at my notes you and I have completely different versions of Saladin. I’ve got An-Salah ad-Din Yusuf the first sultan of Egypt and Syria. Unless they’re the same person.
-
Watch the video i sent you... This is the Islamic Source of History on Salahuddin Al Ayyubi... im not sure what other source you're using but the names don't match. In arabic, "Al" means, "The" and "Ayyubi" was a name given to boys to mean " one who is like the Prophet Ayyub". Christians know Ayyub as the Prophet Job if that helps for reference. Salahuddin Al Yussuf as u said doesn't really make sense because Salahuddin and the Prophet Joseph don't really share similar traits. Prophet Joseph was incarcerated and Salahuddin wasn't. But then again, nicknames are just nicknames. But when you have time, watch the video i sent and Insha'Allah (God Willing) you will find it helpful...

I’m actually gonna do that now. Not a lot to do and this sounds interesting.
im gonna be adding this to my notes. Also would you mind if I run a quick question past you regarding a quick summary of who “Azazyel” is.
-
Never heard of Azazyel but I think you mean Azazel and this is not an Islamic belief. Azazel is an accepted name of Jews and Christians referring to the Devil as a "fallen angel" if I'm not mistaken. In Islam we don't believe in fallen angels because we believe angels don't have free will like human beings and the jinn. The devil was a jinn, not an angel. Since angels don't have free will, he couldn't have been an angel and disobey God. Jinn is a creation made of smokeless fire which were created before humans and they have free will just like us humans. And just like humans, there are good jinn and bad jinn... Jinn is another interesting thing to search up...
-
He’s supposedly referred to as Iblis.
-
Iblis is the name of the devil
-
It could just be an alternative version of the story. Just altered names I guess.
-
Yeah seems that way honestly
-
Anyways thanks for sharing your knowledge. It’s very helpful. 👍

My pleasure

Ok. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the sparrow known as the azure azazyel. In trying to research the subject, I found an Islam reference to an archangel whilst also finding a reference to the Hebrew bible and vulgate referencing a goat and a “celebration” (I say that loosely). I’m clearly gonna need to revisit that area.
-
The only "archangel" that constantly is mentioned in the Qur'an and the hadiths is, Gabriel known as Jibril in Arabic...
-
Sorry brother but i never heard of that and doing quick research on it, nothing about azure azazyel pops up in Islamic History... Might be fabricated... make sure the source is reliable i would suggest... but to that i would say, Only God Knows the truth and I'll leave it at that...
-
I missed out the use of azure in research. I feel that it’s not necessarily a reference to the source but a use of description for the sparrow given its blue colouring.
