How about how the iron lords tree? That tree picture they have has nine branches on it because it is the Norse tree Yggdrasil which has nine worlds signified by nine branches.

  • Also Fenrir is a big powerful wolf and like the iron lords have a thing with wolves.

  • That’s a little harder to correlate.

  • Yeah just a side note

  • No, no. He’s correct. Fenrir, I believe, was a giant wolf, also the son of the Norse God Loki and a giantess Angerboda. It’s believed he will accompany the Ragnarok, destroying the sun, fighting against and ultimately defeating Odin. Fairly prominent in the Nordic mythos.

  • That’s not what I meant. There multiple wolves at the iron temple. If there’s a section of the mythology that has multiple wolves then yeah it’d be an easy reference to make. But to just have it as fenrir is a bit harder to compare them to.

According to creation stories, there are multiple wolves, not just Fenrir. One that chases the sun and one that chases the moon (Skoll and Hati), thus the cycle will always continue until Ragnarok where they consume Sun (Sol which I think is mentioned somewhere in Destiny lore) and Moon (Mani) and Fenrir breaks his chains.

The two you mentioned are called Sköll (the sun chaser) and Hati (the moon chaser). There’s also Fenrir (whom we’ve already named), Warg, Geri and Freki. But that’s it in terms of wolves in Norse mythology. In looking it up I’m pretty sure there’s seventeen wolves but each conveniently serves as memory to the eight lords/ladies of Iron who died during the battle in there replication chamber, and the iron wolves who died at the battle in the plaguelands.

  • My issue with a lot of people following this new wave of Asatru, is they all are supporting wolves, when a wolf was generally an ill-tiding. The berzerkers dressed in wolf pelts, but that was to strike fear in the hearts of their enemies and they also consumed mushroom stew prior their upcoming fight. I think that there is no relation with the wolves from Norse mythology and the Iron Lords. Someone mentioned the correlation with the Iron Lords and King Arthur, a theory I would much rather support. A wolf in Norse Mythology is bad, but a wolf with the Iron Lords represents something more heroic for a lack of better terms, which is why I feel we can dismiss this. I hope my rant made sense.

  • Made perfect sense. I actually am trying to compose a theory directly linking each iron Lord to a member of the round table. It’s proving harder than anticipated.

  • Nice. I can’t be of any help there unfortunately. I’m more versed in the Monty Python story than the real story haha

  • Apart from naming Radegast Arthur it’s like ok, how the -blam!- am I gonna compare the rest of these guys to the lords.

  • Well what if you compared them through their personalities rather than what their names are? There’s plenty of lore on who they were and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is more to come.

  • That’s what I intend to do. However I can’t pinpoint specific personality traits to compare with the knights of the round table.

  • Honestly, something like sparknotes would be great for that. Being they have a whole section for character analysis.

  • The Iron lords, at least whit in destiny are treated as equivalent to king Arthur and the knights of the round table, Radagast being Arthur in this picture, if i do recall correctly memory of Radagast (D1 artifact) made such a comparison, there's also other nods in lore, i think also Timur or Silimar (don't remember which one) was referenced as Merlin

  • I agree with this connection more than a connection to Norse culture. Good observation

  • Oh, I see. It’s not Fenrir’s connection to the mythos that’s the issue, it’s Fenrir’s connection to the game. Understood.

  • Exactly, we’ll kinda. We could probably find a connection to Fenrir in the game. It’s a case of it cannot be to the wolves at the temple cause there’s too many wolves in game to connect it to.

Ok, first off replace trees with wolves. Dunno what was going on then. But wolves have a huge presence in Norse mythology, and wolves are mentioned super often with the iron lords, which have large correlation to Norse mythology too, so there could be a connection. But again, that’s like super surface level and I’d look into that more. So I see your point.

  • I mean, there are many trees, it’s just that wolves come up frequently with the iron lords stuff which has close connections to Norse mythology.
