But the dude got the axe, torpedoed his journalism career, and IGN is looking to do right by the person who originally produced the content. Yeah, it's shitty that it happened. But they're trying to make it right in this instance. I think if IGN had reacted differently, I'd be more open to a crucifixion. • I’m glad the way they are handling it

  • Exactly what I’ve been saying. They are handling this in the best way possible. It’s a really shitty situation for them.

Uh... yeah? >Some douche who works for IGN copies some pleb's review >IGN made aware of review copied by douche >Pull review >Summon douchebag >Internal review to review the provenance of the contested review >24 to 48 hours >Douche gets axe >Pleb maybe gets compensated Shitty situation but it seems like an acceptable outcome. I mean... how much bullshit does ign pump out in say... a work week? Something's bound to get through once in a while if they hire scumbags. Hiring scumbags is a different conversation though. And as a counterpoint, a few people that held this douchebag's position have gone on to do work for Nintendo. So it' not like IGN hired a scumbag on purpose either...

  • You can't run a business without---to a certain extent---TRUSTING the people you hire to go about their jobs in an ethical and honest fashion. Unfortunately, you sometimes hire people who are unworthy of that trust...and they take unethical and dishonest shortcuts. Because they want the rewards without the effort. There is nothing you can do to STOP people from doing that. But you can---and must---act quickly and decisively when its brought to your attention that someone who works for you has done something likes this. From everything I've heard IGN has done that in this case. They've made no effort to hide or defend what happened. They removed the review...and fired the person responsible for this dishonest act. If IGN had tried to rationalize this.....or failed to act decisively against the person who did it...I'd be critical. But they've done all you can reasonably ask of them. You can have all the policies and procedures you want....but if you've made the mistake of hiring someone dishonest...they will try to find a way around them.
