False equivalency. Back then, your time waiting was spent doing whatever you chose, you weren't spending time in between appearences sitting in the game world twiddling your thumbs. Plus, you had all week to find a way to do it and could jump into it at will, instead of having to repeat the aforementioned thumb twiddling if you failed. So it's apples and rotten oranges. The Spindle mission did come around less frequently but when it did, you had far more flexibility approaching it, you had much more opportunity to complete it, and forced time wasting wasn't built into it. The overwhelming majority seem to prefer the Spindle's format.
