Known Issue: Quickplay Matchmaking

Hey all, Today we’ve discovered an issue with Quickplay Matchmaking. We are actively investigating the depth of the issue, and currently believe that neither connection nor skill are being factored correctly when forming matches. [b]PvP Design Lead Derek Carroll[/b] has more information on our next steps: [quote]With the release of Update 1.2.3, we introduced 6v6 Quickplay with a bug that causes skill-matching and potentially connection-matching to fail in that playlist. This results in much faster – but lower-quality – matches than normal. Our plan for the immediate future is to take no immediate action, monitor the health of the playlist, take notes, and ready a potential fix. We will inform the community with our findings and if we make a change, you will be the first to know (just like this time).[/quote]

  • If you’re going to leave this shit matchmaking in place at least make QP solo queue only so these life scrubs can’t come in with stacked teams and pretend their good. QP should be about individual efforts.

  • I have a buddy/clanmate at .67kd. Bottom 8% of the entire D2 population. I don't know what other players are doing wrong... but he's playing better, winning more often, and having more fun since SBMM was removed. Even had his best D2 match ever with 24 kills a few days ago. He has told our clan numerous times that he's loving it and doesn't want it to change.

    • Ive played QP for the last few days and I have not seen more than 2 lop sided matches. I [i]have[/i] seen very terrible players.. Its kind of sad. But its not usually their fault. They use the wrong gun, wrong jump, huge tv with lots of input lag that they dont even know about, dont descope to view the radar, and more. Some of these are just bad habits you get when you never make a friend who is already good at crucible, or you dont try to change tactics after TrueVanny has told you 1000 times over in every video. I feel bad for them. [spoiler]but i have clipped at least 2 matches in the last 3 days because the playz!! Oh man....[/spoiler]

      • some people like it, some people hate it, but to say we know about a bug but aren't going to do anything about it right now is ridiculous. quick play should be prioritized to be 70% connection based and 30% skill based. competitive should be prioritized to be 45% connection based and 55% skill based. i know this is a broad generalization for how i feel the match making should work but you get the idea.

        • we need sbmm, and cbmm. set a standard of stability then match skill. if standard is not met then put them into a ghost glitching game . then skill wont even matter.

        • Normally I try to upvote you and defend your statements when other people downvote you or give you unnecessary crap. It's like pissing on a forest fire, but I do try. But this is basically: "People are getting humiliated in PvP. Sorry about that, but we're not doing anything about it right now." Since I'm one of the less proficient PvP players in the game, and therefore am regularly the victim of this "issue" rather than the beneficiary, you'll forgive me if I don't charge to your aid this time.

          • well not fixing this will just see the amount of PvP players drop. the lesser players will stop playing as there's no fun (what the game is about) getting shot and put up against players with higher KD then them.

You know, if you had dedicated servers like the rest of the modern world, you wouldn't have 98% of the PvP problems you aren't doing anything about.

                • SBMM has 5 issues 1. Longer search times, often annoying 2. Can't play with higher/lower skilled friends unless you and they don't care about stats 3. Removes all incentive to improve, why progress when you face the same level regardless of weather you started trying harder or not 4. Increases lag as connection is no longer the primary engine 5. Ends up teaching newer guardians the wrong tricks, say they start from bottom barrel, they use anything since anything works vs bottom barrel enemies, get that playstyle ingrained and end up being unable to easily swap to what's actually good later when they end up in mid tier games. Finally all SBMM does to high skill players is make each game into a tourney, no one wants to play tourneys every day, there is absolutely no reason a player should be rewarded for being bad by not having to match anyone who's skill surpasses thier own, CBMM will 90% give you a match neither team stomps the other but is fair, that 1 in 20 game you match a stacked team and lose badly [u]is not a big deal[/u] What's [i]not[/i] cool is having a high skill player search and give him heavy handicaps for teammates facing decent competition and expect him to win. Enough forcing the 50% win/loss, CBMM is good, last time they sneakily added SBMM they had riots here for months before being forced to cave and swap it back, we don't need or want a repeat of that abysmal era. Period. You search and match everyone, sometimes it's close, sometimes you wreck and sometimes you get wrecked, this notion of asking for protection from higher skilled players who worked to improve while you likely didn't seems...pathetic to me to be honest, didn't want to use such a harsh term but it's the only one that fits [spoiler]Oh and if you reply with "You just want to pubstomp" I guess the flip side is you are too weak to stand up to that 1 in 20 game where you match a higher % player and lose? You need bungies protection to stop the mean sweaties from killing you once every 5 hours? So "You just want to avoid better players" back at you.[/spoiler] Qp is perfect as is and should not be touched besides for bigger maps meant for 6vs6 Also don't forget players who make alts just for montage clips, those who wish to pubstomp will always find a way. If ranked should be SBMM or not is a different discussion, D2 quickplay is comparable to H3s social playlist, something that shouldn't be tourney like games each time you play.

                    • The posts saying we're getting stomped every game or those stomping just stomp all the time are wrong. It's random. I've been stomping much of last week, went in tonight had to sweat to do okay. It's totally random

                      • Not a single complaint with losing skill based matchmaking for me, don't mind getting stomped on because I learn the hard way on what I can do next time and other times I get that chance to make the good plays that make you feel like the guardian that has killed gods. However the connection based matching should definitely stay, there is already been issues of some using this for advantage. Had a match on Saturday where 4/6 of the opposing team were way too laggy to even challenge, popped my super and it took 4 hits to kill one titan 6 more seconds for the kill to register and then getting killed by a warlock on the other side of the wall before his character even respawned in all the way, like their using a two dollar router they found washed up on the shore across from a landfill back when dial-up was the best thing.

Edit 1: The bad players have confirmed what I just said. Attempting to pathologize CBMM for quick play in a video game. This is what they do. These poorly coordinated individuals want to install their cyber egalitarianism into this games pvp. Don't be like them. You can be better with practice. So please practice and work hard for everything, to include everything irl. If you feel like a bad player, just know you can make a difference in your skill. Only you can hold you back.
