Hey all,
Today we’ve discovered an issue with Quickplay Matchmaking. We are actively investigating the depth of the issue, and currently believe that neither connection nor skill are being factored correctly when forming matches. PvP Design Lead Derek Carroll has more information on our next steps:
With the release of Update 1.2.3, we introduced 6v6 Quickplay with a bug that causes skill-matching and potentially connection-matching to fail in that playlist. This results in much faster – but lower-quality – matches than normal. Our plan for the immediate future is to take no immediate action, monitor the health of the playlist, take notes, and ready a potential fix. We will inform the community with our findings and if we make a change, you will be the first to know (just like this time).
Oh, and will ya look at this! Destiny Tracker once again isn’t showing player participation numbers. https://destinytracker.com/ But I can tell you a few days ago PvP was at roughly 450k.

10 RepliesI'm tired of this. Bungie needs to make a god damned decision on if this game will ever be a competitive PVP experience or just whatever, anything goes. Seems like you're going with anything goes according to Forsaken, AND THAT'S FINE, just don't expect everyone to play it. Because that kind of experience is not for everyone. And you know it. I don't think this is a bug, I think this is a test and I'm not running it for Bungie.

I KNEW IT! Yesterday Quick Play was almost unplayable, again. I left many matches, because i couldn't make kills. Normally i NEVER do that. All matches felt like Trials.
-
Make trials all week long so we don’t have to deal with them.

10 RepliesEdited by Blimgauss: 7/29/2018 4:38:26 PMJesus H. Christ. OK, so let me get this straight: You guys not only intentionally broke trials and comp by removing radar (and are still telling yourselves the community loves it, when the opposite is the case), but now you’ve unintentionally broken quickplay and have no plans to fix it?! ARE YOU -blam!-ING KIDDING ME? My games have been all over the place, bigger margins than I’ve ever seen, pubstomps left and right, sometimes with extremely long intervals between when all the guardians for the match are found and when they actually load into the map — like, conspicuously longer than normal. Now I know why. Thanks for at least confirming it, but really — you’re just going to let it go? What the actual -blam!-? I’m embarrassed for y’all, I really am. I’ve defended this game from day one, but if shit like this keeps up, I’ll be moving on. EDIT: After having read almost all of the comments, many of which say their experience in QP has never been better than after this bug was introduced, I’ll give it another shot. If the vast majority of players want sbmm kept out of QP, then that’s what should happen, no matter my personal feelings. Still skeptical, tho.

This is not an issue - DO NOT ‘PATCH’

I don’t know how I feel about this anymore. Games where you can’t wait until it’s over and take your loss. And others where they don’t stand a chance. Or games where your team did amazing but still lost. Just to find that one guy went negative and cost you the match. D1 matchmaking was really competitive when they matched everyone off elo. So many close games that came down to the wire. One after the other. Now it’s obvious in the first 2 mins if you’re going to win or not.

2 RepliesEdited by Trollefix: 7/27/2018 11:01:31 PMI knew something was up with qp. It didn’t feel right. I prefer matches that are close in score, not 100-50 regardless if Im on the winning or loosing team. Ive also been put into allot more on going games because of it since ppl leave pub stomps.

1 ReplyDon't do a thing. This is the best It's been since launch. It's no longer a 4vs4 sweat fest every damn game now. Sbmm was terrible in quickplay becsuse you either ran up against 4stacks of people on your level or you ran up on all randoms at your level and it was a dog fight every game. Leave all that in competitive. I'm actually having fun again and its nice to see my kd climb instead of stay stagnant. I'm actually on winning streaks playing solo because i dont play a team everygame. I knew I was a better player than my stats but every game was a dog fight. This 1.0 win 50% of your matches nonsense you had was atrocious. If people wsnt that go to competitive. They finally got fast paced random fun quickplay going and all the hand holding bitches are losing games in 6vs6 so they want that slow paced pair against all randoms back. Don't change it and let the people who can't hang quit or get better.
-
This is better. Crucible is fun again. Let it be!
-
3 RepliesPlease for the love of God leave it. I can actually play it again off peak hours. Before I would only get matched with people in my skill bracket and they're definitely isn't enough of them on PC. I also am having fun again. Ever since I broke the top 10 percent KD, KDA, and KAD, my games have been awful. It definitely is not fun feeling like I am in competitive, even in quickplay. Now it has been a blast. I get that average players hate it, but honestly it is a chance to improve, same as it is for me.

1 ReplyKeep it Connection based in Quickplay. It never felt so smooth and fluid the way it does now. I'm Finally not seeing other players rubberbanding around the map while being invincible to my shots ,or weird latency issues. I shouldn't have to suffer because of someone elses low budget or restricted internet connections. Putting in sbmm is like a crutch for people with garbage connections in order to give them a fighting chance ..............might as well give out Participation Trophies. Leave it Connection based or give us Dedicated Servers like Battlefield.

6 RepliesEdited by malonestranger: 7/28/2018 2:57:16 AMMy initial response was instinctively to tell you that the game play feels great right now. 6v6 has been so much more fun and chaotic! And after reading all the comments this topic has attracted I'm solid on this opinion. I'm sorry if you're a player that is on the receiving end of some punishment but it would seem the vast majority of people who care about pvp enough to post replies on here... they love it. And the game should cater to everyone or at least the majority of the people most invested in said activity. So if you suck at pvp and really just drag yourself through it for the milestones then you really aren't there for long anyway. It shouldn't be setup for your best interests because out of the 168hrs a week, you're probably only there for 1-3hrs max for those milestones. There are people that live and breathe pvp that spend 5+ hours a day/ night or more playing it and they are the most invested in the activity. It's for them. That said i think cbmm should be in place so lag is minimal and EVERYONE has the same chance to perform well. Edit: ok so how about selective matchmaking parameters? Tick boxes in your options menu. □ use only sbmm □ use cbmm and sbmm □ use only cbmm * while were here.. □ match with and against solos only □ match with and against teams of 2only □ match with teams of any size ( fastest matchmaking ) Thoughts?

1 ReplySBMM should be removed. If you just create a solo playlist, I'll live with the results. The 6 man fireteam vs solos should have been fixed a long time ago.
-
The PVP will die if you put SBMM, Again. Quick and comp are really in good spot right now, please don't -blam!-ed up again. Keep improving.
-
1 ReplyLet QP matchmaking be focused on connection. The lag has been ridiculous since launching 1.2.3. I don’t mind YT sweeties in a casual mode, more cannon fodder.
-
1 ReplyKeep SBMM out of Quickplay... the community has wanted this since D1.
-
DEDICATED SERVERS is what we need
-
It seems like a bunch of people like this version of QP. That's cool. You should make it a game mode where there is no matchmaking whatsoever. You could even make it the first Crucible Planet! I would call it Uranus Mines. After that, please put Quick Play back to a level playing field again. Thanks Bungie!
-
Quickplay should be the most lax playlist on Destiny 2 so keep it this way, yeah?
-
10 Repliesdamn't... I thought I got better randomly haha! Plz fix when possible. As much as streamers like this environment... it isn't actually good for the game.
-
2 RepliesAnother move to please the youtubers/streamers, and crap all over the average players. Now they can pubstomp like they have been asking to do since D1. Is there any playlist for us average players. Trials and now quickplay are catered for the top pvp guys. Competitive is an abomination. At least give the average players a place where we can have fun and compete. Clash and Control with SBMM would be nice.
-
So this is why im 1/5 the other day where all loses are stomps 🙄😒🤦♂️
Our plan for the immediate future is to take no immediate action, monitor the health of the playlist, take notes, and ready a potential fix.
Read: "Our plan for the immediate future is to let bugs determine our matchmaking algorithm since we've been so bad at it thus far that we're ready to try literally anything.

Just wanted to say that Quick Play currently feels WONDERFUL! The only change I would be happy with is dialing up the connection based a little. Quick Play has felt amazing, and I beg you not to dial it back up.
-
Lots of interesting perspectives in here. The only thing I can add about the way Quickplay is currently working is that the team who wins tends to be the one that doesn't have the one or two people who die 20+ times on it. No matter how good the top guy is it is hard for even the best people, and I'm not one of them but I do look at a lot of stats, to make up for two people that are going to account for half of a 6 man team's deaths. The best thing people who only play Quickplay 4 or 5 times a week can do is try to put more effort into dying less. This will also help with the problems people seem to be having with spawn kills. I'm not that good but at a certain point there really is no excuse for going 4 and 27 then getting mad about it, no matter how good the top player on the other team is. You simply do not have to die 20 times every single match. Its more a symptom of being hard headed when that happens than being that much worse than someone on the other team.
