Known Issue: Quickplay Matchmaking

Hey all, Today we’ve discovered an issue with Quickplay Matchmaking. We are actively investigating the depth of the issue, and currently believe that neither connection nor skill are being factored correctly when forming matches. [b]PvP Design Lead Derek Carroll[/b] has more information on our next steps: [quote]With the release of Update 1.2.3, we introduced 6v6 Quickplay with a bug that causes skill-matching and potentially connection-matching to fail in that playlist. This results in much faster – but lower-quality – matches than normal. Our plan for the immediate future is to take no immediate action, monitor the health of the playlist, take notes, and ready a potential fix. We will inform the community with our findings and if we make a change, you will be the first to know (just like this time).[/quote]

  • I have noticed a few poorer connections but it has not been anything extreme. QP is fun right now. Please consider just leaving it as is.

  • I stopped playing for a few weeks as it was dreadful. It's much better now keep it as is! Maybe just prioritise connection.

    I love playing with a pea shooter against teleporting scrubs that shoot through walls. Yay Bungo. I expect the PvP numbers to slide again.

    • Please, PLEASE, fix the lag first. Until you give us dedicated servers or rework the current matchmaking system to be based more off of connection PvP will always suffer no matter who you get matched against. 1000 times out of 1000 I’d rather wait 10 minutes for a game than to find one in 30 seconds that has players teleporting and not taking damage. That’s the number 1 problem with PvP

      • Screw you guys - seriously - why do you just not give a crap about your own PVP? If a casual wants to play casuals without getting creamed he now has no place to go - he's forced into a sweaty match where he is pitted against pros that level them in a single shot. In case you're wondering, that isn't fun. What's worse is you have all these weak, mediocre players with inflated stats from killing inexperienced players. For any of you thinking this crucible is "fixed", you're just a try-hard with no real skills. If you really want to feel superior and prove your salt, go flawless! At this point just shut down this insanely broken game mode - it's clear that the team responsible for PVP just don't care - how many times are you going to ship a broken product with no play-testing? (Prometheus Lens anyone? Infinite warlock supers?) Your PVP is so bad even your developers don't want to play it! I would urge every casual to stay out of PVP until Bungie decides to take things seriously.

        • Keep it as it is. Do not change it. Im average and sometimes i get match vs absolute pvp gods, 4 man teams with claymore and im fine with that, its a good learning experience and i love it. For low level guardians you need a filters though.

        • Fix the connection but keep skill based matchmaking off please! It's great having games become less predictable, I love it. Crucible is at it's best right now, I haven't had as much fun in the crucible for a long time!

          • So you broke it so that low skilled players are getting pubstomped constantly by people way outside their skill band but you’re just going to sit back and see how many of us quit because high skill players like it. Bungie must be managed by the 3 stooges.

            • I quit playing crucible until this issue is resolved. Its not any fun not being able to get a score because gravity lance and vigilance wing are being used by the entire other team and I cant even get a shot off. Soon as I spawn Im killed. But hey, Glad Bungie doesnt see a problem with this.

                • Interesting information dmg04. I just started playing playing PVP for the first time yesterday in Destiny. Played PvP in a lot games in my lifetime and finally stopped playing PVP with Battlefield 4 because none of PVP was ever decently matched. Most matches were blow out matches with them losing side losing greatly. I'm working on Call of Arms so played both Quickplay and Competitive. Competitive was complete blow out. Lost 0-4 with 1 teammate leaving after first round so played 3 against 4 for remaining 3 rounds. 2nd was the exact opposite of the first match where I was on the winning team. Bottom line neither fun, learned nothing and won't bother with competitive going forward. Quickplay, on the other hand, some of matches were evenly matched. Still, players were getting 40-50 kills over the next highest scoring player. I had more fun in the matches that were going back and forth the whole match. But bottom line is if you don't fix your match making, I do just what is needed for the milestone. Blow out matches and matches with one or two players dominating matches are quite boring and little fun.
