Known Issue: Quickplay Matchmaking

Hey all, Today we’ve discovered an issue with Quickplay Matchmaking. We are actively investigating the depth of the issue, and currently believe that neither connection nor skill are being factored correctly when forming matches. [b]PvP Design Lead Derek Carroll[/b] has more information on our next steps: [quote]With the release of Update 1.2.3, we introduced 6v6 Quickplay with a bug that causes skill-matching and potentially connection-matching to fail in that playlist. This results in much faster – but lower-quality – matches than normal. Our plan for the immediate future is to take no immediate action, monitor the health of the playlist, take notes, and ready a potential fix. We will inform the community with our findings and if we make a change, you will be the first to know (just like this time).[/quote]

Edit 1: The bad players have confirmed what I just said. Attempting to pathologize CBMM for quick play in a video game. This is what they do. These poorly coordinated individuals want to install their cyber egalitarianism into this games pvp. Don't be like them. You can be better with practice. So please practice and work hard for everything, to include everything irl. If you feel like a bad player, just know you can make a difference in your skill. Only you can hold you back.

    • As for feedback. Quickplay is playing the best it has ever had. That is counting Destiny 1. There should be, however, some filters in place for newer players. Level 20 and below players need to match each other. Other than that, the player pool now is making for better games. It isn't "run meta or bust" in quickplay.

      • Honestly, I've not had this much fun in crucible in months. I used to be a huge proponent of skill-based matchmaking, but now that we have a true Competitive mode, this feels right for the Quickplay playlist, which is described in-game as "low intensity". Maybe tighten up the influence of connection quality, but I wouldn't touch anything beyond that.

        • I quit playing D2 regularly because I love to have fun in pvp but every single match was sweaty as heck. Then yhe update released and I got to play a bit and it was a blast! D2 is the game I boot up every time I have some free time again. Please just leave the new quick play as it is, it is so much more fun. I personally don't mind being stomped every now and again if it means I don't have to sweat my butt off every game

        • So simple. Just balance the teams. If one team has a premade of 4 or 3 make sure the other team has one as well. This game is like Overwatch where a pack can quickly two shot individuals.

          • Leave it how it is now, it's how it should have been from the start and what I thought we were getting when quick play and competitive were announced. I'm an average crucible player but have got better the more I've played. The trouble with the old matchmaking system was as I got better the pool of people I was matched with were also better i.e. around my skill level or above my skill level, meaning that even though I was improving it often didn't feel that way as my k/d and performance in matches remained pretty much constant. (Until I got above a 50% win ratio at which point the system would decide to put me in a match I'm guaranteed to lose i.e. between 1 - 5% chance of winning according to destiny tracker). With the new matchmaking, yeah sometimes I'll load in and get stomped by a team of 2+ k/d's, other times I'll get matched against people worse than me or against a mix. Point is, I'm no longer confined to playing against only people at my skill level so can see that I've improved when matched against lower skilled players or maybe learn something when matched against better players. Fact is it will honestly let me see where I am vs. the entire community rather than the select group your old system thought I should be playing. Overall I've probably lost more matches since the update when solo queuing, some pub stomps, others where I've dropped 30 or 40 defeats and had bad teammates, but I've had way more fun. The only downside I've seen is that the connection base part of the match making algorithm is bugged as well, meaning that I've seen a lot more red bar Gods since the update than prior to. As a final thought and this is just my opinion, if people want SBMM then that's what competitive should be for. Make ranked the place to play others around the same skill level only, bad players concerned with being stomped in a purely CBMM system can go there and play within their own bracket. Quick play should just be about connection and otherwise be a free for all so that people can actually see how good they are in relation to the whole community rather than the old everybody gets a prize, 50/50 win/loss, 1.0k/d forced situation.

          • A question for anyone saying that quickplay is balanced: Have you played in 6 man fireteams? They just have no chance, I've never mercy ruled so much in one night, and honestly I feel bad for the players that have to put up with that. I think bungie needs to adress this, but not to return SBMM to its original value. The game seems much more diverse now, but you can't deny that it can be unfair

          • It's still bad. Every game I've been in should have been mercy ruled one way or the other but all of them went to completion with the typical point spread being anywhere from 40 to 70 points. "Working as intended", right Bungo?

            • Just my opinion so take it just as that but, I personally love the current matchmaking system in Quickplay 6v6. It feels great. Load times are crazy fast. I mainly solo queue and before I used to always play stacked teams of 4 where as now it is usually very relaxed solo queue players and a few teams of 2 and 3. Quickplay is indeed a low intensity and fun playlist now. Sure you will sometimes get matched against a full team of sweaties every now and then but that's not the majority of the matches. Now we get random lobbies which is exciting and chill. My personal vote is a thumbs up to leave matchmaking as currently is for 6v6 Quickplay. 👍 Also, I love the new matchmaking changes to the competitive playlist. Finally matchmaking is based on your rank! Rank is finally a testament to your team's skill, as it should always be in ranked competitive.

                If you restore matchmaking either you will lose players or more smurf accounts will be created
